“Project Fear” ... I’m dumbfound at the ignorance.

I am continually astounded by this government and the Brexiteers who are continually rubbishing claims and predictions by Industry leaders, experts, scientists, doctors and economists and claiming that it is part of the huge conspiracy; “project fear” should it not fit with their prosperous Eden that is post brexit Britain.

For example, Mark Carney said that the economy almost certainly would suffer as a result of no deal. But no no, he knows nothing. It’s project fear.

Dusty old Thatcherite tories (“Lord” Lamont) for example, on Newsnight last night said that Food supplies & medication would not be interrupted, despite industry leaders and experts saying it will. The Governments very own dry run of bringing the isotopes required for medical purposes such as xrays, scans, radio therapy etc. actually demonstrated that there would be delays, but again, these people are spouting lies & it’s just “project fear”. But of course, Lamont - who is arguably theee worst chancellor in British history - the man responsible for a run on the pound, is better placed to comment on this than the experts.

Another dusty old man of Tory grandeur Peter Lilley on PM tonight again dismissing claims by experts. It’s astounding.

Anyone who dares to call Brexit for what it is and gives their otherwise trusted opinion is a “remoaner” and their findings are just part of the so called project fear.

It seems that this faction want to blame anyone but themselves for this mess. It’s project fear. It’s the EU’s fault. They won’t negotiate. Our hands are clean. Hmm ... what extraordinary times we live in.

@Coppersulphate , a Brit in France is obviously affected by Brexit. Any stupid fucking idiot knows that.

BelindasGleeTeam · 08/08/2019 08:41

I love being told to shut up.

It shows exactly that the other person cannot counter the argument. They have no valid point, and so resort to bullying.

No, I will not shut up. "Project fear" is not a good enough answer for concerns. There has to be actual explanation and reasoning given.

This is not a kleptocracy.....yet.

TheElementsSong · 08/08/2019 08:43

Do you want to think that one through?

What, you're hoping for something more detailed than a snazzy slogan? Grin

Oh, and [emoji][emoji].

Tanith · 08/08/2019 08:46

I think perhaps these people are right because they are not looking at it in the same way.

It’s like the blurb for Brexit, isn’t it?

Yes, there will be fantastic opportunities, rich pickings, no shortages etc..
For THEM!!!

The rest of us can go to hell. Whoever was silly enough to think they even considered us?

ssd · 08/08/2019 08:46

It's the fake patriotism of the Brexit debate that angers me. Like I love the UK, or more likely England, more than you if I vote Brexit. Patriotism has nothing to do with this, but that's how it was sold to middle England. And they love a flag and fell for it hook line and sinker.
As a Scottish remainer, its beyond depressing. I want to remain in Europe and for the UK to be a progressive country. Not a version of 1950s England that Nigel still hankers after.
A lot of my friends who voted no to independence are changing their minds now. I think a vote here would be a yes vote as its the only way so many of us see to get away from the tories and their small minded voters.

Tanith · 08/08/2019 08:48

Oh, and I wish the idiots would stop harping on about the Millenium Bug.
A fair few of us worked on it. We know they’re lying and it really shows them up as an ill-informed fools.

Jason118 · 08/08/2019 09:04

Don't call them fools - they will invoke snowflake protocol and flounce.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 08/08/2019 09:22

@GreyGardens88

I hope no deal hits those communities that voted leave the hardest

You do realise communities are not a single homogeneous mass?

Communities everywhere are made up of people who voted Leave and people who voted Remain. People in Wales voted to remain. People in Scotland voted to Leave. It’s just more people in Wales voted to Leave and more people in Scotland voted to remain. The result wasn’t counted by constituencies anyway so a single Scottish or London Leave voter is as responsible for the result as a single leave voter from Wales or Essex.

Spare a thought for those who did not vote for this crap but are not only going to suffer for it but have to do so in the company of a majority in their area who voted for it. They are there in every community in the land - many of them are children or disabled or on a low income. Don’t wish ill on them please.

W0rriedMum · 08/08/2019 09:38

Trouble is @W0rriedMum We don’t have that many tax payers in this country do we??? Give your head a wobble✌️🇬🇧
What does this even mean?
Our many taxpayers fund the welfare, health and education bills for all - old, sick, retired, unemployed.. But there will be significantly more of the unemployed soon and we won't afford it. But we will lose our AA rating (was AAA before the vote) and will find it very expensive to borrow government debt.

Give your head a wobble
What kind of reasoned debate is that?

W0rriedMum · 08/08/2019 09:39

@SingingBabooshkaBadly I agree with that. You only have to look at Twitter to see that there are horrified remainers in Wigan as well as Woolwich.

TheElementsSong · 08/08/2019 09:45

What does this even mean?

It’s not supposed to mean anything. You’re supposed to glean the generally Brexitatious sentiment, look at the repetitive emojis, and sink mindlessly into the fluffy cloud.

LatteLove · 08/08/2019 09:47

Me too

"Project fear" is not a good enough answer for concerns. There has to be actual explanation and reasoning given.

So the head of the Bank of England predicting an economic crisis, eminent oncologists stating there won't be drugs available for treatments, food importers stating that food prices will rise and some foods may be unavailable for periods of time and the government stating the need to stockpile food and medication isn't an actual explanation and reasoning according to you.

How, pray tell, is anyone supposed to give an actual explanation and reasoning to someone who doesn't understand the actual definition of explanation or reasoning?

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't make it bullshit. It makes you unable or unwilling to understand basic facts.

@intheheatoflisbon I had read that PP as saying that PF wasn’t an appropriate rebuttal to the concerns raised by experts.

LatteLove · 08/08/2019 09:57

the instant collapse of the UK just by voting to leave the EU did not happen.

The pound collapsed immediately after the vote and jobs are being lost.

LatteLove · 08/08/2019 10:01

Don't you think that perhaps the likes of Mark Carney et al are all remainers and have been proved wrong in the past!

Mark Carney is an extremely knowledgeable and intelligent man who is responsible for running the central bank of one of the world’s largest economies.

Ofc he “May not know” just how things will pan out but his educated guess is going to be way more likely to happen than anyone’s shouting of “PF” with no other evidence to rebut his stance.

And if he’s a remainer, maybe it’s because he knows Brexit will fuck the economy?

InTheHeatofLisbon · 08/08/2019 10:01

You're right Latte, sorry Belinda. That what I get for posting before my coffee.

My point still stands, I just aimed it the wrong way.

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 10:08

A reduced value if Sterling is not always a bad thing to happen. Imports become more expensive and encourage people to buy more local goods. Likewise exports become cheaper which leads to higher demands from outside the UK. Higher demand can create jobs.

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 10:10

Not one individual community or constituencies or member state voted in their entirety to leave the EU. In each there was a mix.

LatteLove · 08/08/2019 10:13

INot one individual community or constituencies or member state voted in their entirety to leave the EU. In each there was a mix.*

True. Ideally I’d like the individuals who voted for it to suffer most but sadly it doesn’t work like that!

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 10:18

Carney's view is very different to his predecessor, Mervyn King, who seems to think that WTO is no issue whatsoever.

Carney has an Irish Passport by the way.

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 10:20

How would those who voted leave be identified? Many previous UK PM's have made huge errors, but none of them jailed or executed.

Janista · 08/08/2019 10:20

More hype and hysteria .

No deal Brexit it happening. Get over it.

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 10:22

No deal Brexit it happening. Get over it

I would have said slightly different;

"No deal is most likely to happen. So learn to deal with it when it arrives"

InTheHeatofLisbon · 08/08/2019 10:23

Janista previously I was irritated by your relentless repetition of insults and soundbites.

Now I find it funny, like a drunken auld auntie at a party that dozes off and randomly wakes up shouting nonsensical abuse at people before passing out again.

I knew you reminded me of someone Grin
