Brexit

“Project Fear” ... I’m dumbfound at the ignorance.

I am continually astounded by this government and the Brexiteers who are continually rubbishing claims and predictions by Industry leaders, experts, scientists, doctors and economists and claiming that it is part of the huge conspiracy; “project fear” should it not fit with their prosperous Eden that is post brexit Britain.

For example, Mark Carney said that the economy almost certainly would suffer as a result of no deal. But no no, he knows nothing. It’s project fear.

Dusty old Thatcherite tories (“Lord” Lamont) for example, on Newsnight last night said that Food supplies & medication would not be interrupted, despite industry leaders and experts saying it will. The Governments very own dry run of bringing the isotopes required for medical purposes such as xrays, scans, radio therapy etc. actually demonstrated that there would be delays, but again, these people are spouting lies & it’s just “project fear”. But of course, Lamont - who is arguably theee worst chancellor in British history - the man responsible for a run on the pound, is better placed to comment on this than the experts.

Another dusty old man of Tory grandeur Peter Lilley on PM tonight again dismissing claims by experts. It’s astounding.

Anyone who dares to call Brexit for what it is and gives their otherwise trusted opinion is a “remoaner” and their findings are just part of the so called project fear.

It seems that this faction want to blame anyone but themselves for this mess. It’s project fear. It’s the EU’s fault. They won’t negotiate. Our hands are clean. Hmm ... what extraordinary times we live in.

@MigorRortis Another Brexiter who voted to end freedom of movement telling remainers to move elsewhere. Point is thanks to you, that is becoming impossible.

Doubletrouble99 · 08/08/2019 01:40

Don't you think that perhaps the likes of Mark Carney et al are all remainers and have been proved wrong in the past! Anyone you interview in industry or the state sector are always going to catastrophise this just as anyone who is given an unexpected hurdle, They are going to tell the reporter about the worst possible scenario for their sector aren't they!!

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 02:22

The remain campaign had the opportunity to advise voters before the referendum what the disadvantages of leaving the EU would be by sending leaflets to every household in the UK. How many people read the information will never be known.

Also there were articles in the press and TV programmes which allowed both Leave and Remain to present their arguments. After arguments were heard from both side the vote was cast and the outcome was leave.

The phrase Project Fear comes from fact that many of the forecasts made by remain campaign never materialized. Just by voting to leave the EU, before leaving actually took place, there was meant to the following;

500,000 to 800,000 Jobs lost
UK goes into recession worse that that of the 2007 financial crisis
GDP would fall

None of those happened. So three years after the referendum it is understandable why people are not convinced that the experts who made those forecasts are in fact experts.

Whether or not UK is better off leaving the EU remains to be seen as not yet happened, but the instant collapse of the UK just by voting to leave the EU did not happen.

Janista Wed 07-Aug-19 23:31:41
Pure hysteria, no helped by threads like this. Brexit is like the millennium bug. Once 1 Nov ticks round you'll wonder what the fuss was about.

Janista, your sheer ignorance of the millenium bug is astounding.

You won't even have to bear the consequences of your ignorance. After all, you are so happy to boast "I live in Oz!"

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 05:54

To Janista

There will be some changes to UK in the short term. Even BBC has released a list of how people may be affected in the event of no deal. Main points seem to be;

Some food items may be less available and more expensive
Imported goods cost more due to Sterling falling in value
Travel to EU less easy than before

Check out BBC website for more details.

I believe in democracy so the referendum must be respected.
People who disagree should move elsewhere.
I am way too stupid to see the inconsistency between the two positions above.
Signed, brexiteers everywhere

The idea that the referendum was in any way democratic, given the shameless lies people were fed, not to mention the lack of a free press in this country is, frankly, laughable.

CrunchyCarrot · 08/08/2019 07:12

Bahahaha 'Brexit means Brexit'! Good grief, are we back to justifying it that way?

I think the 'Project Fear' soundbite was quite a clever way to instantly demolish any sensible argument or fact in a Trumpesque like manner (no brains need be engaged). Shedloads of industry experts and people who actually know what they're talking about are being trashed by this stupid phrase. I despair, really.

bellinisurge · 08/08/2019 07:17

Fuck 'em. Is my considered opinion on waking up.

bellinisurge · 08/08/2019 07:19

Oh and I see Janista has joined us from Australia. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

CuteOrangeElephant · 08/08/2019 07:28

I'm voting with my feet and leaving the UK, taking my higher tax rate salary with me.

But than wasn't the object of the exercise to get rid of scrounging Europeans like me? Biscuit

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 08/08/2019 07:31

It's a cult. And the really sad thing is that when it does all go wrong after a no deal the Brexiteers won't ever accept that they were wrong.

It will be the EU's fault for not giving us our cake and letting us eat it.

It will be remainers' fault for not being positive enough.

It will be the SNP's fault for wanting to break up the union.

It will be Corbyn's fault for being a dirty socialist.

It will be the government's fault for not telling voters the full story.

It will be Mark Carney's fault for not warning us enough.

Etc etc.

Not one Brexiteer or leave voter will take responsibility for this mess, I guarantee it.

PortLouis1996 · 08/08/2019 07:32

Leavers must start taking responsibility for this. Trying to blame everyone and anyone else fools no one and won’t wash at all

Whatever the outcome, good or bad, it effects everyone.

If people want to change their minds it must be done by correct process. Second referendum has been ruled out by parliament. So that leave GE.

AlexaShutUp · 08/08/2019 07:34

And the really sad thing is that when it does all go wrong after a no deal the Brexiteers won't ever accept that they were wrong.

Yes, I think this is what makes me angriest of all.

ScreamingValenta · 08/08/2019 07:38

So they’ll be sitting in Sunderland with their precious Brexit, worse off than when they started.

Er, excuse me, but Londoners weren't the only people in the UK who voted Remain. Plenty of northerners voted Remain too. This sort of London-centric attitude is one reason why the Brexiteers were able to delude people in other regions so successfully.

jasjas1973 · 08/08/2019 07:38

Gove said yesterday that there will be "Bumps along the way......"

I really hope Doubletrouble99 isn't suggesting that Gove is a Remainer? Shock

These brexitiers remind me of my Aunt (and many others who ignore medical experts), who despite being told to stop smoking and drinking, didn't because "they are only doctors and don't know everything...."
She died a few years later in her 50s suffocating on the liquid in her lungs.

bellinisurge · 08/08/2019 07:44

@jasjas1973 , I use the phrase "bumpy at the shops" to encourage people as gently as I can to think about getting a buffer of food in. In my head "bumpy " isn't the word that I use.

Mistigri · 08/08/2019 07:54

I really hope Doubletrouble99 isn't suggesting that Gove is a Remainer?

Because it's a cult, ideological purity is all. Gove has been temporarily restored to the ranks of the pure, because he has bowed to the No Deal God, but it won't last. Even Blowjob will be considered a traitor by this time next year.

bellinisurge · 08/08/2019 08:09

I agree @Mistigri Blowjob has all the hallmarks of someone who is worried the cult doesn't accept them so he has to be Twat in Chief. They will turn on him too.

BelindasGleeTeam · 08/08/2019 08:20

Brexiteer/MAGA

Same hyperbolic shit, different countries.

Yes, we will fit very well dealing with Trump's America. The one where Trump, whilst visiting mass shootings against Hispanics in one city and using it as a campaign video, simultaneously was deporting Hispanics in another, leaving their US citizen kids alone and without their parents.

Sometimes I look at where the world is headed and despair.

Coppersulphate · 08/08/2019 08:20

And Misti lives in France, but you don't mention that Bellini.....

Yes, we are leaving.
I do believe Boris will do it. WineThanksCake
And it's about time. Just stop project fear.

SalrycLuxx · 08/08/2019 08:30

And Misti lives in France

So actually has skin in the game and will be impacted by Brexit. Unlike Janista.
