I can see the point if it's medicines or medical supplies, but I've seen a few threads here where people are stashing tuna, toilet rolls and sweets!?

Are you all fucking mad?

I'm a total remainder but come on, I know it'll be shit but you'll still find asda and tesco will be open

Re: being self-sufficient in potatoes, or turnips, or slugs - see my post of Thu 01-Aug-19 15:33:43. Maybe we will have enough turnips, but apart from True BeLeavers, how cast-iron copper-bottomed certain are you? Are you?

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 17:54

Already on it @Cackleweb . Although I might pause for my lovely dh Grin- who also cooks like a dream. Even with uninspiring ingredients.

SalrycLuxx · 01/08/2019 18:32

Protect and Survive and a very nuclear family

Beautiful spelling and grammar, mind

PancakeAndKeith · 01/08/2019 19:04

In 1983, when we were all convinced that the bomb would drop at an moment an airman called Stanislav Petrov had his finger on the button.
He was ordered to fire nuclear weapons but he wasn’t so sure and managed to convince his superiors that is was a false alarm and along with others didn’t press the button.
If he had pressed it there would have been a nuclear war.

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:04

I can’t believe how much misinformation there is on this thread.

StoorieHoose · 01/08/2019 19:06

Can you expand on what is misinformation?

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:07

Where to start? bellini saying that all butchers raise their own cows and sheep in fields for a start.

Galleyfm · 01/08/2019 19:08

Thanks for your replies regarding the info x

StoorieHoose · 01/08/2019 19:09

I think Bellini was talking about 'farm shops' but could be mistaken

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 19:12

Every fule kno that butchers grow venison cows in stables

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:14

What an odd post.

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 19:16

Oh no it isn't

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:17

If the only way you can argue a point is to be ridiculous then crack on.

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 19:20

CielBleuEtNuages · 01/08/2019 19:20

Like others i am baffled as to why some people gradually building up food etc in their house (not panic buying, not stripping supermarket shelves etc) bothers others. The food will not go to waste. And if for whatever reason the food supply is disrupted (snow, high winds, floods, fires) its X fewer people wanting to buy what is left in the shops.

Its not missing one meal that causes riots. Its missing one meal and not knowing when and from where the next one will come.

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:22

You’re the one stockpiling big roll Autumn
🤣

howwudufeel · 01/08/2019 19:23

Bog roll even Grin

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 19:26

Nope

AwdBovril · 01/08/2019 19:34

DD is now worrying about who will look after the toys that have been left behind when the town was evacuated due to the damaged dam.

I am wondering how much room is left under the sofa for tinned fish etc. Wish I was 7. How to explain to a child... she's already suggested I write to the PM & tell him it's all very silly & she likes (affordable) pineapple so please don't do it.

Curiousjean67 · 01/08/2019 19:35

"tuna, toilet rolls and sweets"
A: Those and/or ingredients originate outwith UK

Are you all fucking mad?
B: Just prepared. A bit more prepared than normal thanks to potential border issues with trucks going out/in and increased tariffs - the initial hit before UK gives in and offers zero tariffs to all the countries willing to offer the same. (For China and US to flood our markets with their cheap c*ap and push out UK producers of those goods - more redundancies to come..)

"asda and tesco will be open"
A: See above - the shops still open will be stocked with cheap sit from countries who are willing to trade with us on zero tariffs. Not knowing how much rat sit you are getting with your food. (Do some research on how much rat poop/hairs etc US allows in food products before it is deemed unsafe to eat...)

Glad I have at least few months' worth to see me through the initial impact. After that, if the mayhem continues, I'll get a one way ticket out of UK.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 19:38

@howwudufeel you expressed discomfort at seeing the cattle which end up as beef in the butchers. I was pointing out that butchers shops or counters sell beef that used to be cattle in a field. And so I'm not sure why it makes you uncomfortable to see it.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 19:48

It you do seem to have got yourself in a terrible tizz.

TheElementsSong · 01/08/2019 19:57

Anyway, you know how we were told upthread that stockpiling is unnecessary because Brexit PATRIOTS are going to subsist mainly on the True British lamb bonanza?

i Government plans to buy up hundreds of thousands of tonnes of unsold lamb in the event of a no-deal Brexit could be unworkable because there is nowhere to store it, BBC Newsnight has learned.

I suppose if 17 million people BeLeave hard enough, that will keep meat fresh without refrigeration.
