I can see the point if it's medicines or medical supplies, but I've seen a few threads here where people are stashing tuna, toilet rolls and sweets!?

Are you all fucking mad?

I'm a total remainder but come on, I know it'll be shit but you'll still find asda and tesco will be open

So basically you have answered the op's question;
Why do people here have a stash for Brexit?

You are worried about a shortage of food and riots.

Socksontheradiator · 01/08/2019 12:56

@Clavinova there were fights over bottled water in my small town after supermarket stocks got low here when there was a major leak last year. We were without water for 2 days. That's all. So, if you believe (and you clearly don't) that there might be food shortages, it's not a giant leap to imagine there'll be fighting over what's on the shelves.
You know what, don't stockpile. But why is it so necessary for you to try and prove peppers wrong? We will be delighted if you are right, and if you are wrong it still won't be easy for any of us, but at least we'll have our little buffer.

When parts of the country riot when KFC run out I would say the ones not prepping are the delusional ones

Not to mention Build-A-Bear 🐻 - unless the premise is that people who would riot over non-essentials like KFC or cuddly toys or IKEA sofas, will become calmly stoic and supine in the face of hunger and thirst. It's that BlitzSpirit of BeLeavers, etc.

Socksontheradiator · 01/08/2019 13:58

I have just been out to top up my stash. A couple of bags' worth is all. I doubt I'm responsible for August empty shelves. Place looked pretty stocked up to me. While I was there, there was an announcement to say there was a delivery at the gate. Just in time supply, of course.
It crossed my mind to wonder how people who so fervently tell others that there is no need to have a buffer will feel if there turn out to be shortages.

You do know that giving financial support to farmers is against WTO rules, don’t you? If we leave without a deal and are trading on ‘WTO terms’ there’s going to be no financial support for farmers.

This is clearly not correct, otherwise the government would not have promised financial support to the farmers.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 14:08

@flouncyfanny urgh wasps. I try to pretend I am brave for my dd when they show up. Which is code for aaaargh!

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 14:09

@Clavinova , you pledging not to get extra food stuff in, then. You would be the first BeLeaver on here who makes the pledge. Been asking for ages and no one will. Wonder why.

Blah blah something about wasps being pest controllers and beneficial something something biodiversity.
I had a load of ants in my compost heap - we go to war with ants every year as they try to get in the house. Diametaceous earth did for those suckers. And good for the compost heap too.
Wasps? I got nothing. Jam jars and squealing. That's it.

Yes, I will make the pledge - I'm within easy walking distance of a few farms/farm shops, independent butchers etc.

StoorieHoose · 01/08/2019 14:31

Of course you are Clav! You and several hundred hungry people decending on your local farm shop! build a Bear riots repeated

TheElementsSong · 01/08/2019 14:39

Is farm shops/independent butchers the new "let them eat cake"? Grin

StoorieHoose · 01/08/2019 14:42

I visited my 'local farm shop/independent butcher' and bought loads thinking it was all local produce. I til I got home and found my chicken breasts came from Poland.

At my local farm shop you drive through the fields of cows and lambs they then butcher themselves and sell on. It’s quite disconcerting.

TheElementsSong · 01/08/2019 14:52

flouncy I started a thread to crowdsource for our dictionary!

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 14:52

Our local independent butcher is unable to guarantee a local source of his produce. Or the laying date (even vaguely, we'd be happy with the week not the day) of his 'farm' eggs. 'Back of a lorry last Friday' springs to mind.

"Independent Butcher" ex small business owner trying to sell home-grown rats as bleached chicken.

They don't sell chicken - prize winning beef, rabbit, venison etc. They could always sell the lamb from Wales that nobody wants...
