Why do people here have a stash for Brexit?

I can see the point if it's medicines or medical supplies, but I've seen a few threads here where people are stashing tuna, toilet rolls and sweets!?

Are you all fucking mad?

I'm a total remainder but come on, I know it'll be shit but you'll still find asda and tesco will be open

Who Gives A Crap does a free trial, I have read.

Timeandtimeagain42 · 01/08/2019 10:57

Who needs loo roll anyway? Even though Remoaners will lack the capability to BeLeave their bottoms clean, they will be able to resort to the old-school

I'm going to start collecting BJ's advice leaflets and wipe my bum on those....at least then they'll be useful!

@AutumnCrow thank you I've now placed a free trial order for my mum and for me. If anyone else wants to sign up the link is here. It's £3 for shipping and the box contains a sample of all their products it says.

Yet Portsmouth port has been voicing real fears about disruption.
The Port Director in your link says this though;

"There has been a lot of work in the port industry to prepare for the worst case." "I am confident we will be Brexit ready whatever the outcome may be, even a no-deal." "The issue at the moment is around the funding not the preparation."

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:19

@Clavinova misses the point. Again.

Clavinova · 01/08/2019 12:21

I missed your post/link yesterday - the UK is self-sufficient in liquid milk to drink but not milk products. In fact, Northern Ireland will be left with a 'milk lake' (according to The Guardian) if they are not able to export this milk to Ireland (they will be able to - Ireland relies on this supply to make butter and cheese).

Clavinova · 01/08/2019 12:26

110 toilet rolls per person per year. Population of uk is 66.9 million. The company has stockpiled 3.5 million.

The UK is not going to be 'under seige', neither will your neighbours 'attack' you if they find out you have a stash of toilet rolls.

AutumnCrow · 01/08/2019 12:27

Clavbaby, Port directors have a fine line to tread between demanding government funding and not spooking the private companies who use their ports in a highly competitive commercial environment with ever tighter margins. It's not really rocket science.

I shall also be investigating bog paper trials.

Socksontheradiator · 01/08/2019 12:35

I'm assuming that here is not the place to discuss 'family cloth', as used by zero waste proponents?
Saves trees, money and loo roll. Big ewww factor for a lot of people but no worse than reusable nappies/sanpro.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:36

@Clavinova , you can march happily to the shops if you want to when it gets bumpy. I don't need to.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:39

@Socksontheradiator - that's my back up plan. But that would be a long way down the road. Dd loves reusable sanitary towels; I don't want to push it beyond that.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 12:39

I'm more worried about water purification chemicals. Bog roll won't be the biggest toilet related issue if we have a water shortage. I was smugly bulk buying dried beans and lentils until I realised I'd have to boil them all up before they would be edible! Food wise, wed be OK not shopping for a while until the riots subside and we've signed the WA in desperation but we'd need something to drink

SistemaAddict · 01/08/2019 12:41

Water purification tablets are cheap on amazon and I've got a supply of bottled spring water just in case.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:42

@noodlenosefraggle , in the unlikely event of that sort of problem, collect what comes out of the sky (usually a lot in autumn); filter it through a T-shirt to get rid of big bits and then do a hard rolling boil for a minute to purify. Cool and use. Google reliable sources if you don't want to take it from an internet random.

Timeandtimeagain42 · 01/08/2019 12:44

Why are we having a water shortage? We do have quite a bit of water in this country? Hmm

Clavinova · 01/08/2019 12:47

when it gets bumpy until the riots subside

Go ahead and stockpile - but all this nonsense about food riots is ridiculous.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:47

@Timeandtimeagain42 , unlikely to happen but all our purification stuff for treatment places is imported. Maybe why the number of water treatment civil engineers that I know voted Remain.
Let's assume the No Deal plans we are jizzing £2.1 billion on have made that a priority.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 12:47

Because the water purification chemicals come from the EU iirc. Our licence to import chemicals will be invalid. Thanks for the tips. We do have a couple of water butt's we use for the plants. I might buy some purification tablets.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:49

@Clavinova , explain why, only lady week there was a silly thread on here whinging about not enough ice lollies at the supermarkets. And tell me people who can't get food for their kids because the shops are "patchy" won't get upset.

bellinisurge · 01/08/2019 12:49

Last week not lady week 😂

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 12:50

There are riots when IKEA runs out of plastic chairs what do you think will happen if there isn't any food?

Timeandtimeagain42 · 01/08/2019 12:51

Let's assume the No Deal plans we are jizzing £2.1 billion on have made that a priority

Fingers crossed!!! Something new to worry about..... aargh!

noodlenosefraggle · 01/08/2019 12:51

And I was half joking. Now I have my water purification tips, I don't care about the rest of you Grin

Parkmama · 01/08/2019 12:52

So what are people stashing?? Any stashing lists??
