The latest independence poll is 48/46 against independence, at possibly the worst moment possible.

This cracked me up.

You do know the missing 6% don’t count in a binary choice referendum don’t you?

See Johnson was in Scotland today - did he venture out to meet the public or did he stay hidden the that submarine from a picture I saw on twitter. Couple of months of him and a no deal Brexit and I thin Scottish people will vote to leave the union

Oddly enough I do know that. it's precisely because it is complex and unique that it should have a special status

Yet can't understand why a border in the sea is an issue?

Scottish devo max could have looked like if it had been on offer

Devo max was more than on offer, it was part of The Vow, hastily cobbled together the week before the Indy ref and swallowed by an awful lot of people.

It's never materialised.

StoorieHoose in Edinburgh too! Glad to see people made their opinion of him and his rhetoric clear.

As a second generation immigrant, I am hardly a major colonialist! Aside from that, you have summed me up brilliantly, 5 stars!!

I didn't sum you up, your posts did. As you are a second generation immigrant I'm actually quite saddened to see such xenophobia and ignorance of the reality from you.

But hey ho, life moves on.

Would Devo-Max have meant that you’d have got rid of all the Scottish MPs from Westminster? If not, that’s quite an important difference.

The CI don’t have the history that NI does either. So there’s a different mindset. I think it’s different from Scotland and Wales too.

RafaIsTheKingOfClay no but it would have been an improvement on what's available currently.

It also would have pacified the less ardent nationalists, thus ensuring Indy 2 never happened.

Moderate nationalists was the word I was looking for. It would have been an acceptable compromise for many.

But there was never any intention of honouring the vow was there?

Report
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/07/2019 19:48

Absolutely no intention. Although I can’t see how it would be workable anyway.

No Deal merchants can fuck off

Takes two sides to make a deal. If no deal occurs then both sides have messed up.

Can't wait for no deal personally.

Tullow2016 · 30/07/2019 05:06

No deal is not the best outcome, but at least it would break the deadlock. Think I would prefer a no deal to the never ending uncertainty that extension after extension would bring.

Janista lives in Australia so will not be impacted directly by No Deal. It's like me looking forward to developments in Hong Kong. I had close family live there before tbe handover but my interest in events there now is purely idle curiosity because they moved to different countries years ago.

No because NI is a special case. And therefore has to be treated differently. And there is no issue with a border in the sea. NI already has its own legal system and would have its own assembly if the politicians there would sort themselves out so it is not joined at the hip with England or Scotland or Wales. You already need to show photo ID on planes and ferries if you are travelling between the UK and Irish (air)ports. Northern Irish sports(wo)men often compete as part of an Irish team. How would a border in the sea affect anyone? It's already different. A border in the sea would merely reflect reality.

And as we've established you are not affected by Brexit and are just being deliberately provocative. Why don;t you go off and discuss something that is relevant to Australia? As I said in the other thread, if there's no deal, there's no way you'll be coming back to the UK, probably not even for a visit.

Why would someone in Australia be impatient for a no deal Brexit? That's just bizarre.

Because it won’t affect them

Report

probstimeforanewname probably time for a history lesson more like.

The DUP (the ones propping up a Tory government without a majority) DO NOT WANT A BORDER IN THE SEA. It separates NI from the rest of the UK, so they won't accept it.

You can say over and over again there's no issue, but there is, and if you don't bother doing a wee bit of research (which frankly I wish more people had bothered to before the referendum) then you're just going to make yourself look foolish.

Just because you, wherever you are, can't see an issue, doesn't mean there isn't one. You appear to be confused.

Not at all, Johnson wants a deal in which "our friends and partners" in europe give us pretty much what we had as paying in EU members - trade, security, crime co-op, Galileo - but with no obligations.

Would you stop paying the lease on the new car but expect to still be able to drive it, then blame the lease company when they don't agree?

I rather think some would tbh.

The EU have been very reasonable, they could have forced the UK to leave in both March and June but they didn't. They agreed to yet another extension, which they warned was time limited and MPs went off on holiday!

The EU has been decent about negotiations, which is more than they had to do, considering they didn't ask for any of this shit.

Joyful,

Do you think the EU is trying to negotiate a deal because they wuv us?! Are we naughty but charming children who just need a good telling off but then to be fed and put to bed?

The EU need us az we have a $2.5triiiion economy, we buy things that they need to sell and we make things (and, especially, services) that they want to buy.

We all need to find a way to keep trading with the minimum of barriers. We may need it more than the EU but that does not mean that they don’t also need it.
