It’s all about feeling and emotions these days

Always was right from the beginning about ISMs

Nationalism
Imperialism
Racism

ISM means

I t
S uits
M e

Hopefully it comes good, but even Jacob Rees Mogg estimates it will take about 50 years before UK feels the full benefit of leaving the EU. My youngest child will be in their mid 60s by then.

I know we’ve had extensions and there may be one more perhaps - if the EU agree - but it looks like it will just delay the inevitable.

"Fuck it, I'm genuinely at the point where this has affected my MH so badly I can't bring myself to give a shit any longer."

Just focus on you. It's what I tell my dh who often says the same. Inside Our four walls is all that matters.
Look after yourself.

I think something major will happen with Iran and that will be the catalyst for putting Brexit aside

I also wondered (and this sounds incredibly morbid and I'm sorry) if sometgibg like the death of the queen would shift the focus long enough.
Arent there talks of her being sent to Brussels? At her age that might just finish her off :(

@InTheHeatofLisbon we are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst in this household too.
I was listening to the latest Remainiacs podcast, @StealthPolarBear, and there is still quite a lot of hope around putting an end to the madness, but honestly no one can predict anything for sure.

I'm feeling more hopeful after reading this thread rbh. While I assumed may was bluffing it never occured to me Johnson might be, he wants out and would seriously throw the little people to the wolves as long as he and his friends are OK.

@StealthPolarBear , the Queen 's Mum lasted until she was 101. I'm hoping the Queen will be the only person Johnson is truly intimidated by. Things have come to a pretty pass when I am hoping the Queen will stop him from being a complete twat to this country.

How can Brexit be kicked into the long grass? The date is set. We instigated Article 50. We got one extension. That’ll be it.

Article 50 can be unilaterally revoked. Not saying I want it to happen, but it’s possible

Brexit is the result of some scary propaganda.

People have been fed half truths based on their base fears. It’s a bit like telling children there really is a monster under the bed and that monster will get you.

And now we’ve got Brexit coming and people will still buy the propaganda because somehow they think that it’s a bit nice to have some post war time spirit

Article 50 can only be revoked before the exit date, plus any extension. Maybe Johnson can be overthrown.

@InTheHeatofLisbon- - The EU have already stated they'd be happy to extend, and No Deal does have to pass through parliament otherwise there wouldn't have been a threat to suspend parliament in order to get No Deal through.

The EU have said they will extend only for a substantive reason (e.g. GE, new referendum). They will not extend for more of the same. No deal doesn't have to pass through parliament. The threat to suspend parliament is really just bluster as, unless Johnson 1) asks for, and is granted an extension, 2) revokes A50 or 3) agrees a deal with the EU, a no deal brexit happens.

To be honest, at this stage, most in the EU are royally pissed off with the UK. No deal preparations have been ramped up in the EU, particularly in Ireland. We have had ads on the radio for well over a year advising companies on what they need to do to prepare for no deal. Within the EU, the likelihood of no deal happening is now seen as a very real possibility and as highly probable.

Your current government comes across as arrogant, intransigent and incompetent. That is a very dangerous combination.

Isthisafreename RTFT I know that now and have corrected upthread.

I agree with your summation of the UK government, you're absolutely right.

We're fucked. Whatever happens, we're fucked.

Which is what's been being predicted for 3 years anyway, so we might as fucking well get on with it whatever is going to happen. It's not like we can do anything about it, is it?

One of the problems for sane people is that if you avoid no-deal, you quite likely get saddled with five years of a far right Johnson government.

My forecast is

  • Johnson spends the summer campaigning
  • He backs off from No deal, but blames parliament/the EU
  • He is granted an extension for a GE then campaigns on a "parliament/the courts/remainers are traitors who must be crushed" platform

If this works, and he gets a working majority (ie without the DUP) he'll go back to the EU for a deal that puts the border down the Irish Sea, limiting the need for any backstop. There will be a further extension, I would guess until this time next year.

Isthisafreename snippy? I stated a fact after you'd tagged me in something I'd already clarified.

I wasn't intending to be snippy, but you can take it however the fuck you want.

Don't tag me again. I can't be arsed.

Until you're appointed thread police, I can tag whomever I like.
