Brexit

Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

And the brexit bingo begins! Eyes down and dabbers at the ready!

I'd explain to the above poster how things work but we've been doing that for about 3 years now and I cba.

I can't be arsed with them either. Their posts are so naive and yet simultaneously so rude. Happy to ignore if that's the preferred pack drill.

TheFlis12345 · 28/07/2019 11:55

Can we have a sticky or something that explains how food actually gets into shops? Think we’re all bored of having to explain it. I really don’t know why posters go to the trouble of commenting if they don’t believe any of it.

bellinisurge · 28/07/2019 12:03

Ignore. Judging by some of the ridiculous shit on the "why don't supermarkets preempt stuff" thread, I think there are people determined not to get it.
Until Johnson says it's your patriotic duty to do it and then they will be all over it.

Bellasblankexpression · 28/07/2019 12:14

Thanks for that completely original post @Janista we have never been told that before. Clearly we shall now rearrange all our thinking. 🙄

Socksontheradiator · 28/07/2019 12:36

DH has been humouring me re our 'apocalypse stash' but he's just told me that Gove is saying that we should be stockpiling.
I can't find any source th gh and he can't remember where he read it.

SistemaAddict · 28/07/2019 12:41

I think there was something in the planning for brexit bumpf that said individuals should take appropriate action to prepare or something. I'll see if I can find it later.

There is t very much in the brexit boxes now as a fair bit of food is use by the end of September or October. I've moved all that into my cupboard and will slowly restock. Flour doesn't last as long as you'd think so the children are now happy that we have 6kg to use up and this means cookies! They love baking cookies with me. Lots of oats and raisins in there to balance out the fat and sugar Smile

I've got a shit tonne of bread flour to use this summer! It's a good job my shoulder is thereabouts healed and I can knead now!

SistemaAddict · 28/07/2019 12:52

Good news about the shoulder Smile my bread flour is use by the end of December so I see Christmas bread baking in our future. Dd has broken her wrist so isn't able to knead bread for a few weeksSadThe tinned goods situation is quite plentiful but missing beans and passata. No long life milk now either so that's going on the list along with rice and washing detergent and san pro. I've no treats either apart from quality street and after 8s for Christmas.

I've gone over to the extremely dark side and used anniversary vouchers for a Panasonic bread maker - thanks to a tip on here. I tell myself I can make bread by hand if I want to (even in my Dutch oven Grin) but the bread maker is bloody brilliant.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/07/2019 14:51

Oh no, Bercows. I hope she recovers quickly.

I was told that it would've been 'better' to break my shoulder as it would've healed in a couple of months, rather than tear the tendon which needed surgery. Apparently it's because I'm slightly hyper mobile that I didn't break it. So there you go! 😂

Bellini, which bread maker? What size loaf does it make?

bellinisurge · 28/07/2019 14:54

@NoWordForFluffy I'm not at home at the moment but will let you know. The hive mind on MN said Panasonic if you can afford it Grin

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/07/2019 16:29

Bread makers... Really tempted by that.

ListeningQuietly · 28/07/2019 16:29

Bread makers are wonderful - even if you just use them to make up the dough and then bake bloomer loaves in the oven.
They make cracking pizza dough :-)

I can heartily recommend the Panasonic SD-2500

BlackeyedGruesome · 28/07/2019 16:34

Oi, oi Fluffy, you know we aren't supposed to over extend our joints ...which might accidentally happen kneading bread by hand. Medical need for a bread maker. Think of all the pressure on elbows and wrists you will avoid.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/07/2019 16:46

And that, Blackeyed, is why your my new best friend! 😂😂😁

NoWordForFluffy · 28/07/2019 16:46

Fuck. You're. Illiterate iPhone! BlushBlushBlush

CherryPavlova · 28/07/2019 16:49

Well the country is already running short of some drug supplies. We’re intending to purchase some items from a pharmacy in the Middle East when we go out in September, to make sure we have a good few months supplies.

Bellasblankexpression · 28/07/2019 17:02

I’m about to sort through my stash. Weirdly looking forward to it! Going to make a list of what else I need to get.
Not sure where I’m going to store it all thought 😕

AutumnCrow · 28/07/2019 17:42

My local Asda pharmacy has a notice up about drug shortages, asking people not to blame them but to contact their MP. There's a box where they've written in the MP's name and office number.

Has anyone else's?

marshmallowkittycat · 28/07/2019 18:11

Genuine question here - I'm a remainder but been a bit head in the sand regarding what happens if we go no deal. Can anyone tell me what is likely to happen regarding a no deal regarding food supply and the best things to stash if necessary? If it's on another thread let me know and I'll look there.

These are the original threads and probably contain some of the info you need. Good UK food supply, just in time, where does the UKs food come from.

Been using up my stash, with the intention of replacing in September - freezer is full of extra kids stuff for the summer holidays, so will defrost and refill once kids back in school.

I’m really worried about DC though, they have ASD and have a very limited diet, and are already underweight, so I can’t risk not having foods they will eat.

Next month is DS’s double DLA payment, so I’m going to use that for prepping specifically for DC. Plan is to buy 4-6 weeks supply - I’ll have £327 to prep with so hopefully will manage around 6 weeks.

I’ve written a list of what I need to get, but can anyone advise me on what is most likely to be in short supply after Brexit? Is there anything in particular I should buy more of?

I know it’s impossible to know for sure, but any guidance would help.....

Here’s my list -

Chicken Dippers
Turkey Dinos
Skinless Richmond Sausages
McCain Crispy Fries
Frozen Sweetcorn
Warburtons Small Loaf Bread
Anchor Butter
Pure Milk
Dairylea Cheese Strips
Eggs
Heinz Beans
Spaghetti Hoops
Heinz Tomato Soup
Part Baked Baguettes
Heinz Ketchup
Kellogg’s Multigrains
Nestle Shreddies
Raisins
2 Fingered Kit Kats
Frazzles or Bunny Bites
Freddos
Strawberry Flavoured Toothpaste
Movicol
