Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

Flouncy oh no, didn’t mean to inspire Waitrose envy! I’m only going in for the bath and shower gel as the grapefruit scented one is more reminiscent of the Body Shop than supermarket shower gels. I am going to get some Marks and Spencer’s crisps for the Christmas box though, it wouldn’t be a Christmas buffet without vinegar chipsticks!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2019 22:00

I reckon there will be family debates over when is the best time to break into the tinned tomatoes Wink

A christmas box is such a good idea. I'll definitely do this.

prettybird · 23/08/2019 22:13

I've bought a few XXL bags of Mackies plan crisps (don't think you can get them in England but they are fab Smile) that were on offer in Lidl.

I've hidden them but I doubt that they'll make it to Christmas Blush (BB Feb 2020).

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 22:21

Hmmmmm. I might need to find a Lidl at the weekend when I'm on your stamping ground pretty!

I have a fair amount in the Christmas box already. It'll all be fine! Xmas Grin

prettybird · 23/08/2019 22:40

Lots of Lidls up here! And they take credit cards, now including Amex Grin

Hoooo · 23/08/2019 22:45

Christmas box!!
Great idea!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 23:03

We're staying at Charing Cross PI, pretty. It's not the best, for the immediate area, but it's near enough to Kelvingrove Park and museum for us to take the kids to their favourite place in Glasgow!

I shall investigate local Lidls. I know there's one in Partick, but I'm not sure if that's the nearest one.

I've got two boxes of M&S biscuits under the stairs. And a few more bits coming next month. I've also got my baking stores stocked up to make other treats. Next step is building my butter mountain!

thenightsky · 23/08/2019 23:30

Is butter freezable?

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 23:45

Yes, you can freeze butter. It also lasts fine in the fridge.

prettybird · 23/08/2019 23:46

There's a Lidl off Maryhill Road on Woodside road, and one in the city centre as well as in Partick. You're probably about equidistant from all three - and not conveniently so Hmm

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 23:49

Sounds about right, pretty! 🙈 I'll see how we fare. Priority is park / museum / pint in Brewdog!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2019 23:54

We are eating up our frozen butter from march and replacing. It's fine.

Hot dog rolls don't seem to have survived our freezer though. They were grim tonight. Half soggy, half hard.

MarshmallowManiac · 24/08/2019 01:10

Must start a Christmas box. I think I'll begin with Lidl's Oreo choc biccies, and M&S's Bloody Mary crisps [ grin ]

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/08/2019 01:13

Home from holidays, let the washing, cleaning and stashing commence.

bellinisurge · 24/08/2019 07:01

Went with dd to buy some stuff for school- shirts , underwear etc - she's nearly taller than me. There were a couple of other bits that she spotted "you could put them away for Christmas " - she has noticed that we are trying to get presents bought early to avoid any price hikes after Brexit. So I had a war in my head between frugality and preparedness. The latter half won.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/08/2019 07:13

M&S do some good crisp offers towards the back end of the year quite often. Don't fancy Bloody Mary ones much mind!

I'm almost done for Christmas now. I'm stock-taking in a few weeks to assess what's needed.

MarshmallowManiac · 24/08/2019 12:41

You are all so prepared, I will have to get my act together ladies, Fluffy they are so so lovely

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/08/2019 13:36

@MarshmallowManiac

As Mr Tesco says...

Every little helps.

Anything you do will help. No-one can see into the future and get everything they need for the unknown future. (Thanks Bellini for that advice)

Start with the essentials and with Bellini's three day advice. I expect that you have quite a lot on the list already. Look at where you have gaps in supplies and gaps in your accomodation. Fill both.

Look on top of wardrobes, behind the sofa, under the bed, under the dining table, under the stairs in the garage, bottom of the wardrobe behind the kickboards in the kitchen, behind books on the bookshelf...etc.

Think amount of days/ weeks each thing will last. I accidentally ended up with a year's worth of kitchen bin bags in a couple of packs and something else only a week's worth in a couple of packs.

It does not seem that long ago when I started with the three days as it seemed manageable and have built up from there.

Once I had a bit of everything, it felt easier to deal with emotionally and I could make it more of a "game" to see where things would fit. Take the approach that works for you.

Good luck.

If anyone needs to buy cheap toothpaste I found poundland actually had 125ml of aquafresh for £1. I had previously bought 100ml for 99p at aldi.

I think my sister is tired of me now!

NoWordForFluffy · 24/08/2019 18:34

That's not bad. We normally get 100ml Colgate from Home Bargains for £1.

The mahoosive parsnip is no more! It got eaten for dinner, along with home grown courgettes, green beans, runner beans and corn on the cob (which was amazing!).

We are drowning in runner beans. They're worse than the courgettes (which are manageable!). We will not go short of beans, whatever happens!

I'm getting an Ocado order on Monday. There's treats for the stash in general, plus a few more bits for the Christmas collection. As well as a shit loaf of tinned peas and sweetcorn, both on offer. Oh, and eggs to freeze to make sure I've eggs available for the Christmas baking!

I had a 15% off voucher, so made good use of it.

thenightsky · 24/08/2019 20:54

Cheese... are we freezing cheese?

NoWordForFluffy · 24/08/2019 20:57

I'm just going to get a couple of massive blocks from Farmfoods and take my chance!

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/08/2019 21:45

Tomorrow was supposed to be shopping day. I have not packed away holiday stuff yet. It has been too hot to move in the flat today, though I have done lots of washing. I should be able to get some more done this evening when it is cool.

magimedi · 24/08/2019 22:15

Cheese freezes much better grated than in blocks - at least that goes for Cheddar. Frozen blocks of cheese are woefully crumbly when defrosted whereas grated cheese is fine (& takes but moments to defrost) & is good for sauces, toppings & sarnies.

Apileofballyhoo · 25/08/2019 00:06

Just had a thought earlier and wondered if anyone is getting sunscreen. I know it's not likely to be used in November but where is the stuff made and will it be a hard thing to get by next summer?
