My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

That sounds delicious, flouncyfanny, I am however gluten free which adds a whole level of extra challenges to baking. As a result I hardly ever do!

Agree, bellini that the slushy mess can have its uses - but not 10 jars of it! Hahahaha! I would have used it with yoghurt except I can no longer eat yoghurt. Ditto porridge. I really do lead a dull culinary life! Blush But at least I can report successful setting this morning. Huzzah! Grin

bellinisurge · 23/08/2019 06:31

Well done. CrunchyCarrot .
I have a few jars peach salsa I did last year sulking in a corner of my cupboard that also didn't set properly. It was so much effort to do I am hoping that inspiration will strike for its use. Still waiting ....😂
I suspect an ohfuckit solution will present itself.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 06:33

Crunchy. Put it in the fridge. It'll harden up a touch. My strawberry jam can be a bit runny sometimes, but keeping it cool does help.

We still have a fair amount of white bread flour and yeast sachets in date so I doubt I'll need much more than I have.

I'm not sure about multivitamins. I might get a tub, but I'm not keen!

I’m having a sort out and list making session today. I decided to store things in two main cupboards, one for immediate use in October which will hold staples and one for extras/treats and also things for longer term. Then do a shopping list for the rest.
I have allocated a suitcase to use as a Christmas box. I don’t need a lot as we are only four, but I will get a box of nice biscuits, a tin of chocolates, jelly, custard, a Christmas pudding etc.
Lastly toiletries. I’m planning a trip to Waitrose as I love their Essentials shower gel and bubble bath, especially the grapefruit scented one.
Could I add my thanks to all those who have generously shared tips and wisdom on these threads, it really does help.💐

Wolfcub · 23/08/2019 09:19

Crunchy can you dehydrate it and make fruit leather?

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 10:59

Definitely Blackeyed must look at those lists for inspiration thank you and must also remember to stock up on vits as anaemic.

Hoooo · 23/08/2019 13:27

I have a spreadsheet :)

Been to boots to get pain relieving gel and itch soothing gel (have uaed loads of it this summer)

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 13:46

Would love to be that organised Hoo to have a spreadsheet Wink

I've not had a blood test since pregnancy. I was going to ask for a hormone test to query peri, but I'm not going to bother bearing in mind there's a shortage of HRT!

I don't like multivitamins really. Would only take if medically advised.

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 14:01

Really Flouncy must do that thanks, as always try to take a good amount of iron as at least half doesn't seem to get absorbed for some reason and my iron levels are always low

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 14:13

I don't either fluffy and most of mine are from my GP, but they don't seem to make much difference.

Orangecake123 · 23/08/2019 14:16

@CrunchyCarrot

Thank you!

BlackeyedGruesome · 23/08/2019 16:03

Apparently according to radio 4 inside health, taking iron every other day means more is absorbed. You would need to check for yourself though. There was a new study.

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 16:18

Interesting Blackeyed thanks for that, will enquire and look up that study. Also have to consume many prunes as visits to loo are not that plentiful Wink Sorry guys I seem to have derailed your thread somewhat

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 16:37

The liquid iron like Spatone is absorbed better. And orange juice always helps it absorb too.

I generally have cracking iron levels though. They were amazed how high mine was the day after my EMCS!

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 16:42

Wow Fluffy that's great must try some, after mine I nearly needed a transfusion!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 16:45

Check out one of my parsnips! I don't think I'll be going short of those this autumn / winter!

MarshmallowManiac · 23/08/2019 17:00

OMG it's colossal, you definitely won't

CrunchyCarrot · 23/08/2019 17:02

Put it in the fridge - oh I did, but it was still pouring consistency when I put it back in the pan today! Grin Anyway it all came out ok in Round 2. Grin DP says it's 'nice and tart' so we have a result. Smile

can you dehydrate it and make fruit leather? Maybe, but I won't, I'm not sure what that will do to the histamines. I try to eat everything as fresh as possible so they are as low as poss. Smile

@flouncyfanny - it's ok, I'm used to my weird foods now, just another curved ball from life! I think humour is the only way to deal with these things, sometimes! Grin

Ye Gods Fluffy that's a mammoth parsnip!!! Shock

Orangecake123 · 23/08/2019 17:43

well done on the parsnip- it's huge!

We also went Tesco today with our dad, we got nuts, dried apricots, prunes, 3 cans of carrots, vegetable and mushroom soup, toothpaste, a mixture of dove soap and the cheaper lemon 4 for a £1 and 3 bottles of shampoo.

Head and shoulders was 3 for £10.

Not sure how much cereal to buy though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2019 21:35

That parsnip could be the new MN chicken Grin (also reminds for blackadders turnips!)

We are definitely back in the prepping arena. Thankfully dh is fully on board, especially as he's seen that my (ahem) advanced purchasing of medication has brought us a little time in hopefully sorting out alternatives.

The psychology of actually using items when there is a shortage is interesting. The supermarket was entirely out of tea leaves this evening. I have tea leaves in the stash. dh decided he will use tea bags instead.

prettybird · 23/08/2019 21:39

Getting my priorities right: first thing I make from the plums I've collected (about half still on the tree: a small crop this year) is plum & cinnamon gin Grin

Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?
OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2019 21:42

That looks good!
I need to get some plums and then blackberries into my rumtopf.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2019 21:44

That looks awesome, prettybird!

I love Blackadder, OYBBK! I have a load more parsnips where that one came from (and they said you can't grow root veg at our allotment!). I will have to barter with them! Grin

Do you reckon we'll all go hungry whilst not daring to touch our stash?! The human brain is a bonkers, illogical, creature!
