Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

Need to get the alcohol stash stocked up. Wine Wine Wine GinGinGin If everything goes tits up as we are expecting, it may not be as noticeable if we are in a drunken stupor...

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2019 23:03

God. I usually do the double up in Sainsbury's, but I'm concerned they won't have the stock / just won't do it this year.

yolofish · 13/08/2019 23:11

Revisiting our stash over the next few days and starting again in earnest when we get some money in. Do you think out of date bread mixes are ok?? most of the rest is tins/jars/dried so should be ok. I do wish they would do UHT milk in smaller packs though, I cannot live without milk for tea and coffee, but UHT not nice on cereal etc.

yolofish · 13/08/2019 23:12

oops! hit return too soon. also noticed quite a lot of gaps on shelves the last few times I've been shopping - oddly though, fresh meat seems to be missing quite often?

SistemaAddict · 13/08/2019 23:31

Bought Imodium for my mum's stash today 👌

I'm eating the kitkats I'm trying to stash Blush

I've bought a couple of extra charger cables and a power bank for my mum too.

Asda are selling Lenor for £1.75 instead of £3. I think it's because they've redesigned the bottle 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've got a 4 pack of beans now so I feel like a proper prepper Grin I did have 8 tins but dd has decided that she likes them again.

And 6 days of decent drugs in my emergency stash along with some cash. I rarely have cash on me but I've started putting some away.

I also have shampoo and conditioner again so slowly but surely I'm building back up our stock levels.

I've discovered TVP makes a passable bolognese that the kids will eat (see The Brexit Cupboard-The Recipe Edition thread for the recipe).

My Who Gives A Crap trial box is going to be made into my emergency utilities box with torches, matches, candles, batteries, power banks, charger cables, and water purification tablets. It's not a massive box but it's the perfect size to fit those items.

Must by thrush capsules! Nothing worse than that burning itch Blush

Batteries are on offer in Asda btw. AA and AAA packs are 2 for £4 or £5. I can't remember now but it was a saving of about £3. With Christmas not too long after brexit then it will be good to have lots of batteries stashed to prepare for Christmas presents needing them. Along with for torches and radios etc.

It feels scarier than it did as we approached the end of March wondering if we'd no deal or get an extension. It feels more real. I didn't think May would let us fall off the cliff but BJ is a different kind of idiot altogether and I can't call it at all. May cared in her way, stubborn and useless as she was but BJ doesn't give a shit and that scares me.

Agree May seemed to care and worked hard at trying to get the best for the country even if one does not agree with her strategy/ red lines. Boris is a loose cannon and anything might happen. Most likely No deal Brexit.

We are running high stocks but still need to top up. We seemed to have topped up on wetsuits this week though rather than anything useful. Hoping to go to go outdoors tomorrow as rain is forecast. Will try to look for anything useful.

EileenAlanna · 14/08/2019 03:46

@yolofish you can get packs of small individual UHT milk in the Pound shops. I think they're packs of around 20.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 14/08/2019 08:22

As well as getting back on the loo roll stashing, I've been picking up decent branded toys in Asda, Tesco, Argos, Home Bargains etc that have been deep-discounted to 80/90% off or even more if and when I see them, most only a couple of £. They're going in a box to give to the Christmas kids' present appeals.

Hoooo · 14/08/2019 08:24

Teresa may invoked A50 with no plan.

She made up ridiculous "red lines"

She came up with "no deal is better than a bad deal"

Then her horrific speech blaming MPs for not backing her deal. 3 years after an MP was assassinated.

All to placate the erg.

She is a disgraceful human being.

SpoooyGhost · 14/08/2019 09:07

Morning!

Groupon is good for deals on toilet roll, we got 120 rolls for £24. Triple ply. My kids eat the bloody stuff.

kjhkj · 14/08/2019 09:10

Do you think out of date bread mixes are ok??

IME the yeast tends to have gone once you go past the use by date by about a month and so I always add some extra yeast but still use the mix.

SistemaAddict · 14/08/2019 09:11

I'm no fan of TM and also think she's an awful out of touch human being but I believe that she didn't want brexit. You knew where you were with her-hell-but with Johnson it's like trying to predict the trajectory of a toddler and the unknown is a scary thing.

Tesco's long life milk is coming up as 'not available' on line today Sad

MotherWol · 14/08/2019 10:37

@yolofish Morrisons do 200ml cartons of UHT milk for kids lunchboxes, usually a 3 pack for £1, although I can never find it in their online, only in-store.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/08/2019 10:55

I have gone with alternatives to milk for calcium. Tinned rice puddings, almonds, cheese in the fridge, soya milk for DD powdered milk for cooking with. Finding different ways around the problems.

BlackeyedGruesome · 14/08/2019 10:57

Thinking about it, I think I will get more rice pudding.

Just remembered that we need to stock up on dried fruit again as we are using up the old to make way for new.

Socksontheradiator · 14/08/2019 11:15

I just had a look at the small uht pots in poundland, and the use by date was November :(

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2019 11:31

@SpoooyGhost, that's what I got too. But I found a 10% discount code as well.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/08/2019 11:32

Peas have loads of calcium in by the way.

CrunchyCarrot · 14/08/2019 12:04

Apparently there's a cauliflower crisis due to the 'extreme weather' we've had.

GoneWishing · 14/08/2019 13:08

Rice pudding and peas are all good, but they do rather ruin your Earl Grey. Brew I drink my coffee black, and keep thinking I should get used to milkless tea, too, but it's just not the same.

Day 3 of pantry tidying, and the two more shelves done. I've ended up with some unexpected space there, too, when everything's organised. A few more bits to add to the shopping list. Could do with getting more spices and squeezy ginger, garlic and chilli and other stuff like that.

Our local shops have been just fine wrt stuff on their shelves so far. We're in Leaver Country, though, so maybe this is the first thing ever that the locals have chosen to feel optimistic about?

I'm feeling pretty depressed about this all today. I took some time off from thinking about the whole bloody mess over the summer, and now that I'm catching up of all things Brexit, I'm angry again. I may have been reading up on relocating back to "where I come from", but not with any enthusiasm. Seems like a lot of effort and cost just for the sake of flouncing. (On the other hand, I'm waiting for some MRI results, and this is a welcome distraction from that worry...)

Socksontheradiator · 14/08/2019 13:16

I'm in leaver country too. I went shopping this morning and everything was as it always is.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/08/2019 13:18

Hi hi. I built my stockpile in March, it's looking ok still, in terms of dates.

I've created a few more lists though so will buy more when I've got some money.

Just an FYI - round here (south west) the blackberries are ripening already. We had 2kg on the weekend so I've got a freezer drawer of crumbles and plenty of frozen whole fruit (my kids love them defrosted as pudding). So if you've got any bushes near you, get out and look. They are lovely and sweet since the heatwave.

Socksontheradiator · 14/08/2019 13:24

I was feeling a general sort of anxiety, which I've realised is likely brexit related. Feels better now my cupboards are full and I have spares of important things. DH has a bit of a stash of his meds luckily, from times when the pharmacy has got the numbers wrong (they gave him 2mg instead of 5mg a few times) once it's out of the shop it can't go back. He pays for it so it annoyed him at the time but he's grateful now.
I'm signing things, I will be marching, and I'm contemplating who to vote for if there is an opportunity. Beyond that, I'm just considering my camel tied, and I am trusting that all will work out ok.
It is scary to read about the people who are fed intravenously, and the problems they are facing with lack of food supply though. And HRT. I don't know if it's brexit related or not, but it outlines clearly how damaging a medication supply disruption would be.
