Hell is ever closer-how's your stash looking?

My brexit cupboard shelves have been depleted due to using up the things that were going out of date like long life milk and juice. We also seem to have raided the baked beans Blush
After today's announcement of buffoon johnson (isn't Johnson an American term for penis?) being our new PM and his threat of brexit on Halloween come hell or high water I figured I should assess my supplies. I still have my original lists somewhere so need to check everything.
Anyone else extra worried now and assessing their supplies?

I'm sorted for tins as I've been rotating my March purchases, I have 3 months worth of toiletries and cleaning products. Plus a years worth of strawberry toothpaste for DS.

I haven't been rotating freezer contents as I wanted to defrost freezer over summer, so have been using with the intention of refilling before Autumn.

Its when to refill freezer and purchase perishables that I'm struggling with - things like cheese, pure milk, part baked bread etc.....current plan is to buy in September and rotate as much as possible.

Hoooo · 12/08/2019 21:40

Yeah Freezer needs defrosting here too.

Although I will have temp use of a small table top one too

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/08/2019 01:15

We are away on holiday so no stockpiling going on here. We are eating cheese bought in march though. Ds stopped eating so much cheese. But it will go with potatoes and store cupboard stuff. Going to sort and clean the fridge when we get back. Restock and rotate.

Bulk buy chopped tomatoes and stash. Yeah yeah, I knowI say this every time I post but we use loads.

Amazon order as my flask has died. It was pushing 30 though.

Get everything else done we can. Glasses, dentist car service etc.

So much to do, so little time. So little storage space.

Anyway, just do my best, tying up my camel and trusting in God for the rest.

Repack the suitcases under the stairs and stash under there again.

Out of date Vitalite is OK by the way. Accidentally left some too long in the fridge.

Want to stock up tinned goods and non dating stuff by the end of August. The rest asap afterwards.

mamapants · 13/08/2019 09:25

I have just started mine. Got extra beans, tinned tomatoes, tuna, cous cous, rice, pasta, lemon juice, dog food, washing powder and plasters with my online shop.
Need to ferret it all away when it arrives.
Aiming for an extra 5-10 items per week. Wish I'd started earlier really as it was quite expensive.

kjhkj · 13/08/2019 09:30

I had a big delivery last night. Can't face putting it away yet so my hallway looks like a shop!

bellinisurge · 13/08/2019 09:41

Just read a handy tip to bulk out chillis /pasta sauces with a bit of porridge oats. If you like thicker sauces like we do.

berlinbabylon · 13/08/2019 09:43

My stash is more about luxuries/things I know come from overseas than essentials, eg coffee, multivitamins, iron tablets, other medicines, filter papers for the coffee machine - and then in terms of essentials loo roll and tinned fruit.

I think I may get a bit desperate if I have to use UHT milk. I was looking at all the alternatives to dairy milk yesterday but didn't end up buying anything. Can anyone recommend something ? Oat milk maybe?

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/08/2019 09:51

My kitchen regularly looks like ,well not a shop more like something out of hoarders as the bags wait to be emptied and the contents ferreted away. Ferreting away spaces are in short supply.

If you buy stuff that you normally use, then the expense will be regained later.

Here on holiday, I am seeing lots of really good stashing places in the holiday house. Meanwhile, back at my crappy flat...

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/08/2019 09:53

I find dried milk tastes the same in coffee as fresh.

Other people recommend oatly.

MotherWol · 13/08/2019 11:18

Oatly's really nice in coffee - it looks darker than a cup made with dairy milk, so you think it's going to taste strong, but it's actually quite creamy. Buy a couple of brands and try them out, it's the best way to find the one you like.

GoneWishing · 13/08/2019 12:01

Top level of my "pantry" all tidied up and organised. It's occupied by coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cocoa, jam, honey, syrup, lemon juice and fruit salad. Mostly coffee, to be honest. This is good. I can easily go without the rest of it, but coffee is life.

The "cat box" is also all sorted. Cat food thankfully has a long shelf life. I'll add more treats for her, though, and need to get some extra litter.

Today's plan is to deal with the next shelf, to feed the tomatoes, and to replenish my mini stores of the make up I prefer to use.

Hoooo · 13/08/2019 13:53

Interesting....
Just been to a large supermarket.
Hardly ANY uht milk left on shelves.
Then tried morrisons online and oos online too!
I'll add more to my ocado order at the end of the month...

berlinbabylon · 13/08/2019 13:59

I've been into my local Sainsburys and Waitrose this week and both had loads of UHT milk (and all the various non-dairy alternatives that just left me paralysed with indecision). I will try Oatly, thanks for the recommendation.

Mostly coffee, to be honest. This is good. I can easily go without the rest of it, but coffee is life Completely identify with this.

kjhkj · 13/08/2019 13:59

My tesco order was limited for the first time last night. Limits on orange juice, squash, pasta, bread mix. They have implemented maximum quantities per order.

Hoooo · 13/08/2019 14:06

Hmm!
All those leavers not so beleaving anymore??

SpoooyGhost · 13/08/2019 15:05

I love Homebargains 3 balls of yarn for £2. And two tins for the cupboard (one tin of ham which chopped up is lovely in cheese sauce with pasta, and one frays chicken pie. Little and often has really paid off for us even with such a tight budget.

I'm currently the winning bidder on a bread machine which is for sale locally. Fingers crossed for me!

ifonly4 · 13/08/2019 15:40

I didn't want to scarehonger, but been to Tescos twice in last four days and they're definitely much lower than normal on mushy peas, tinned sweetcorn, tomatoes, pulses and pasta, Whiskers and Felix cat food. I buy these items nearly every week so know how full the shelves are. Just hoping it's because staff are on holiday but it's made me think I need to get prepared. UHT had an ok supply though.

wherearemychickens · 13/08/2019 16:19

Is anyone else worrying about storage over the summer? Most of what I've got is stored under our bed, in a bedroom that has got more than a bit hot in the weather we've had over the summer. It's not so much the dried stuff like pasta, but sauces, Hellman's mayonnaise, etc. It's all still within best by dates, but does the best by assume ideal storage conditions?

Hoooo · 13/08/2019 16:54

My stash is all over the place :)

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2019 18:35

I got home to 120 loo rolls in the hallway! 😁

Our bedroom hasn't got above 24° or so, so I'm not too worried about it. How hot has yours got, chickens?

Wolfcub · 13/08/2019 18:43

Four portions of meatloaf stashed in the freezer, will make good rib sticking comfort food and contains bacon which is frankly an essential food group Wink

wherearemychickens · 13/08/2019 18:46

Over 30, although that would only have been for short periods when we had that really hot spell. I guess what I'm worried about is hidden spoilage - I can spot mould, it's whether there are odd bacterial growths you can get that you wouldn't be able to visibly spot?

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2019 18:49

Ooh. I don't know. I wouldn't even consider it!

I'd think stuff is pretty safe in a tin rather than, say, a plastic bag.

CrunchyCarrot · 13/08/2019 19:24

My tesco order was limited for the first time last night. Limits on orange juice, squash, pasta, bread mix. They have implemented maximum quantities per order.

That's ominous. I did my Ocado shop yesterday but haven't noticed any restrictions (yet!).

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2019 22:02

I've not seen any limiting so far. Makes me slightly concerned that I've left it late!
