Looking for some lighter brexit relief by fellow leavers... Every thread I've glanced at seems to be dominated by renainers?

Is there any space for leaver on here?

Just interested... I wanted to chat...

"The leavers comments are generally so rude - stupid, racist, Mail reader, old, ‘spoons drinkers etc, why would anyone bother?"
I would happily say that about a No Dealer but not about a Leave voter. I know and love a few Leave voters and am civil in real life to any that I know but am not related to.
It is No Dealers' pathetic attempts to say that criticism of them and their lunatic idea is the same as criticising all Leave voters.

Going back, I tried to distinguish between Leavers (who had justifiable reasons for their stance, along with some researched facts) and Brexiteers who just parroted slogans as an answer to anything.

I don't know any Leavers anymore though.

bellinisurge · 17/07/2019 16:57

I know a few -I live in one of the UK's Leave Central area. That said, apart from occasionally expressing surprise that this is more difficult than promised and general grumbling about MPs, they've all gone pretty quiet round here.
We'll see if they get noisy again come the end of October or when Johnson serves up WA part deux and pretends it's some Leaver victory.

mummmy2017 · 17/07/2019 17:23

We all heard about abuse of power and spending in the EU..
Their endless request for more money.
Now the new MEP lot are proving how true this is...
A limo service, a massive building used for a few weeks at a time, expenses that leave so much room for cheating. People go in broke and come out rich. ...far more than from our parliament....
You just told us this didn't happen, but it does there is proof. . Just one reason I felt we were better out than in.

1tisILeClerc · 17/07/2019 17:27

mummmy2017
You've not seen anything until you see the UK's Brexit bill, how much it is going to cost every person in the UK.

bellinisurge · 17/07/2019 17:30

Hopefully the Brexit Party MEPs won't sully themselves with spending taxpayers' money. No wait ...

mummmy2017 · 17/07/2019 17:31

But then that gets offset against just how much more the EU wanted off us to continue...
That fee will now no longer need to be paid..
So after a few years we will be in a place where it equals out and suddenly we are better off...

bellinisurge · 17/07/2019 17:32

In other words, your position is "it's fiiiiiiiine".

Bearbehind · 17/07/2019 17:35

Where’s the proof mummmy because all of that sounds very much like hearsay to me

DGRossetti · 17/07/2019 17:36

Is this a retread of "no true Scotsman" ?

DustyDiamond · 17/07/2019 17:41

I have just checked your previous posts - there is not a single mention of MPs!

More Quitlings "facts"...

Fair enough Doris, I thought I'd been clear with these points, but hey-ho - if you didn't read this as explicitly referring to MPs then so be it:

"The whole Brexit thing has really shone a light on the self-serving nature, incompetence, arrogance & narcissism of many of our elected representatives
(I include MPs of all parties, and both hard leave & hard remain advocates in that)"

"FWIW I'm a leader who would have been ok with the WA & was just as fucked off with the ERG lot as I was with the anti-brexit lot in Parliament
Extremes on both sides are as bad as each other imo"

DustyDiamond · 17/07/2019 17:42

I think we can all agree that the vast majority of MPs have handled Brexit in a way that is best described as shit.

Yep!

mummmy2017 · 17/07/2019 17:46

The kinocks went in poor all three became MEP's. All rich now....only jobs....

DGRossetti · 17/07/2019 17:47

Oh, I see it is Sad

1tisILeClerc · 17/07/2019 17:47

And how much is the repair bill for the HoParliament?
Will the MPs be slumming it in an old aircraft hangar at the back of Heathrow or maybe a Holiday inn in Slough during the restoration?

Dapplegrey · 17/07/2019 18:35

Says the person who stalks all these threads only to make snide comments and never to actually contribute to the discussion

So bear it’s stalking to point out that you think only those who are ‘well informed’ should be allowed to vote?

Dapplegrey · 17/07/2019 18:36

And how much is the repair bill for the HoParliament?

That’s not the fault of Brexit, surely? The repairs would be necessary whether leave or remain had won.

Bearbehind · 17/07/2019 18:42

So bear it’s stalking to point out that you think only those who are ‘well informed’ should be allowed to vote?

dapple you are priceless.

As I’ve said before, I’m sure you have some kind of diary reminder which tells you when you need to come here and bring that up.

Yet again it wasn’t even part of this threads discussion.

And yet again I’d ask you to justify why you think the right to vote comes without any responsibility.

bellinisurge · 17/07/2019 19:00

So we all get screwed because you don't like the Kinnocks. 😂😂😂Confused

1tisILeClerc · 17/07/2019 19:01

The cost for the repairs to Westminster is estimated to be £4 Billion, which is nearly half a year's 'subscription' to the EU.
Of course it will overrun, like the Scottish Parliament building that was 10 times over budget.
While neither are Brexit related, it does highlight that a country's governance costs a lot of money.

Peregrina · 17/07/2019 19:14

The sad thing to me about the HoP repair is that they are not taking the opportunity to remodel the Chamber - with a horseshoe shape, enough seats for everyone and a desk or writing surface in front of them; to bring it into the 21st Century. They can still keep the wooden panelling and the woolsack.

Bearbehind · 17/07/2019 19:45

So bear it’s stalking to point out that you think only those who are ‘well informed’ should be allowed to vote?

And the more I think about it, the more the last 3 years has proved my point.

None of us were sufficiently well informed on this subject to vote but those who voted thinking, and still think, unicorns and fairytales were possible, really shouldn’t be allowed to enforce their pipe dreams on the rest of us.

Because they aren’t possible in reality and will fuck us all over in chasing them.

Bearbehind · 17/07/2019 20:09

enough seats for everyone and a desk or writing surface in front of them; to bring it into the 21st Century.

Ironically I think no writing surface probably is more 21st century - no one writes on paper anymore, they just use their mobile devices in their laps.

mummmy2017 · 17/07/2019 20:12

It that is the whole point of our elected government ..
We vote in people who are paid to do what they told us in their manifesto.....
I drive a car and pay a mechanic to do the engineering, as he is trained to do it..

A surgeon to oversea medical matters.
An MP to do political matters ..
Asked us what do we want.....

pointythings · 17/07/2019 20:18

mummmy your analogies fall down a bit in the face of Brexit. Yes, you pay a mechanic to service and repair your car. You cannot however commission him to turn your modest set of wheels into a custom Mercedes with all the latest gadgets. Manifestos must be measured against what is realistically possible.
