A spot of music for this morning.
MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 02/06/2019 12:11

Well, this is horrifying, even when the polls are all taken with a decent pinch of salt.

Thanks red.

Gutted that I had no recent cat pics to PMK, here's 2 taken just now.

at a guess (can't see the feet) this is the little black cat that's around the neighbourhood.

It's been sat in our garden for over half an hour now. Seems quite content. When I went out on the patio it looked over it's shoulder with that "what ?"!" look cats have, and just carried on relaxing.

Not being au fait with the ways of cats, I have no idea what it's up to.

Hardly the Beast of Bodmin Grin

My Beast of Bodmin was terrorised by a squirrel yesterday.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 02/06/2019 12:33

PMK.
Trump is a fuckwit of huge proportions. He's BJ's long long twin.

DGR
I think it might be time to 'fake' your cat and get an image off t'internet!
I haven't seen the cat I don't have for weeks, but it must be around to take the food I leave out for it.

Ellie56 · 02/06/2019 13:02

And another PM candidate, this one promising a second referendum...

I'm not delusional Grin

Anyway, while we were having lunch, the cat decided to move on - possibly encouraged by the fact it's p*ssing down Hmm

Sam Gyimah

For some reason, that always speedreads as "Sam Gamgee" for me. Bearing out my late DMs recollections of (re) reading Lord of the Rings when in hospital having yours truly.

Anyhows, back to Brexit

metro.co.uk/2019/06/02/michael-gove-ready-delay-brexit-end-2020-block-no-deal-9774247

Tory leadership hopeful Michael Gove is reportedly prepared to delay Brexit until next year in order to avoid crashing out the EU with no deal. The environment secretary is said to have told colleagues ‘no-deal’ risks triggering a general election or no Brexit at all. He would delay leaving the European Union until 2020 in order to prevent the possibility of Jeremy Corbyn becoming Prime Minister, a source told The Telegraph. The source said: ‘Simply trying to go for no deal before the UK is properly prepared will lead to a general election with Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street and risks Brexit being cancelled altogether.’ The stance puts Mr Gove at odds with many of his rivals in the race to replace the outgoing Theresa May, who have claimed they are prepared to leave the EU without an agreement if necessary. The home secretary, Sajid Javid, another Tory leadership candidate, said on Saturday he would step up planning for a no-deal Brexit if he becomes the next prime minister, but said Parliament would do everything to try and stop no deal as an outcome.

borntobequiet · 02/06/2019 13:22

Chris Patten, Tory peer, ex-Governor of Hong Kong, Chancellor of Oxford University, on World this Weekend excoriating the Conservative Party (old, white, right wing) and nearly all the leadership candidates. Rates Rory S though.

1tisILeClerc · 02/06/2019 13:33

{Tory leadership hopeful Michael Gove is reportedly prepared to delay Brexit }
So how is he going to do that then?
I am not convinced a little note to the EU saying 'we want to fanny around for another year' is going to go down well.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-48435872

The number of British nationals applying for Irish citizenship has risen significantly since the Brexit referendum almost three years ago.

Irish citizenship ceremonies were first introduced in 2011, and for the first four years applications from Britons averaged about 60 a year.

In 2016, the year of the Brexit vote, there were 568 British applicants.

The number grew to 860 in 2017 and last year more than 1,200 Britons applied to become Irish citizens.

(contd)

Coincidentally, it's the Italian Republic day today. A fact that 10 years would have passed me by ....

Now THAT's manspreading. Smile

jasjas1973 · 02/06/2019 15:00

To quote a well used WW2 saying.... Underpaid, undersexed and under Trump

Not only is Trump dictating to the UK Govt, he has publicly criticised Prince Harry's wife and the Royals will be made to suck it all up.....

Far from restoring the nation's "greatness" brexit has taken away the last fragment of pride we once held, we can't upset the Americans and had better not annoy the Chinese.

TheABC · 02/06/2019 15:20

I am grimly starting to stockpile again next week. It's the WA (which can't be forced through Parliament), a crash out or Revoke (no appetite for that). There's no time left for anything else after the leadership challenge and party conferences.

What's really depressing is that no one in the echelons of the Tory party have grasped this and the Labour party have abandoned all pretence at an opposition.

Moanranger · 02/06/2019 15:28

Interesting article in today’s Independent by John Rentoul, who I rate (Sorry, cannot link, on my tablet)
The gist is he thinks BJ will blow it & Gove will prevail. I sort of prefer the “1 month of crap Conservative Brexiteer - NC vote -GE” myself, but I think Gove, while not loved, does demonstrate some level of competence

ElenadeClermont · 02/06/2019 15:30

To be fair to Trump he also expressed strong opinions about Kate Middleton's nude pictures and she is the mother of the future king. He is just generally rude about women and is not diplomatic.

Peregrina · 02/06/2019 15:31

Johnson will secretly be glad to blow it. He's a lazy so and so and he knows it.

1tisILeClerc · 02/06/2019 15:35

{ He is just generally rude about women and is not diplomatic.}

There has been quite a bit of this by various cabinet and MPs over the last few years, it will bite on the arse at some point.

ElenadeClermont · 02/06/2019 15:36

That is my main hope, too.
The Brexit party with Farage is especially full of idle people. No real chance of Johnson or Farage and co turning up to work at all.
