I wish there weren't going to be protests about Trump. He as a person is just not worth it. Protests will only please him and upset Americans who don't deserve it.

I am going to look for something positive to do, a war memorial to American troops or a poster about fantastic Americans who have done something wonderful for the UK. Senator George Mitchell maybe, or the Marshall plan. I'll think of something.

Tanith · 02/06/2019 15:57

Is there anyone in the Conservative Party who isn't putting themselves up for PM?

Sam Gyimah, hmm. He's an interesting candidate. I didn't rate him much when he was Early Years minister, but I can at least remember him and he did no harm. He seems much more comfortable in his Universities role and he went to the same Oxford College as Margaret Thatcher.

I don't think he's got the experience for the top job, though. Mind you, looking at some of the more experienced candidates, that might be a positive advantage!

Iambuffy · 02/06/2019 15:59

If its gove the gfa is fucked.

Tanith · 02/06/2019 16:06

TemporaryPermanent I think your idea will infuriate the Presidential Ego far more than protests Smile

Maybe a time to remember JFK ?

I have no idea if he was a bad, good or great president. What I do know is he was inspirational in a way that none of our current leaders could even dream of being.

LonelyTiredandLow · 02/06/2019 16:19

Even the BXP don't seem to have noticed we are unlikely to get an extension past 31st Oct. Interesting Gove thinks he would be able to get one - presumably his next plan would be to declare a PV as that was (IIRC) one of the only things EU would potentially extend for?

I also wonder if he is too canny to be the placeholder PM while Brexit happens. He's predicted enough in that comment to suggest he knows we will No Deal and people will not be happy with the result - hence the threat of JC coming in. I think he knows we won't get an extension and is going to stand by the least popular option (delay Brexit) so he is overlooked but then looks like he was super clever when we No Deal and the chaos hits.

LonelyTiredandLow · 02/06/2019 16:22

What we could really do with is someone who has a plan for post-Brexit Britain. Seems to be a void...

DGRossetti · 02/06/2019 16:27

What we could really do with is someone who has a plan for post-Brexit Britain

Part of the reason the "no deal" BXP narrative is so addictive, is because there's no plan for after Brexit. It actually supports the sunny uplands view of Brexit. Why do you need a plan when you have gold-shitting unicorns on tap ? It's the same level of intelligence that refuses to have snake venom at an Alabama exorcism, as it won't be needed. With tiresomely predictable results.

1tisILeClerc · 02/06/2019 16:33

Wakingdeadfangirl piped up with this kind of plan a bit earlier. Get out of the EU as soon as possible then someone* can sort it all out afterwards.
Even grabbing your coat before going outside is a better plan than that.

*some mythical entity that can work miracles.

prettybird · 02/06/2019 16:37

That sort of non plan definitely requires the stockpiling to be ramped again Sad

Actually, I am stopping eating into our stockpile and seriously planning for what I'll require for November onwards. What an indictment of "peacetime" UK. HmmAngry

DGRossetti · 02/06/2019 16:40

planning for what I'll require for November onwards.

A November no-deal could be so much worse than a March on, if we have a shit summer, poor harvests, and are knee deep in snow in October.

Hazardtired · 02/06/2019 16:51

Fuckers better not no deal the general grind has ground further and by November there'll be more people to knackered to do anything. I don't have the headspace to start stockpiling again. Have changed the way I shop so always have something in but I'm to dead to do anything else right now.

ElenadeClermont · 02/06/2019 17:04

DGR Why do you need snake venom for an Alabama exorcism? I did not get the reference, sorry.

Iambuffy · 02/06/2019 17:11

Going to go through the stocks and start again I guess.

Ffs.

DGRossetti · 02/06/2019 17:14

DGR Why do you need snake venom for an Alabama exorcism? I did not get the reference, sorry.

A staple of "fucking idiotic deaths" in Fortean Times, or the Darwin Awards are loony-tunes preachers that will allow themselves to be bitten by venomous snakes in order to demonstrate the power of the Lord.

Googling "US preachers snakebite" will return enough results to keep you chuckling for a while.

(Here's a doozy - guy manages to get himself killed 4 years after his father did)

I chose Alabama (other states are available) because I recall a story from there where the preacher was adamant that no anti venom (cf. post Brexit "plan") was needed.

What I find most hilarious about these dickwads is how the missed the "God helps those that help themselves" bit in the Bible. Suggesting that if religion isn't for me, it most certainly isn't for them either.

BigChocFrenzy · 02/06/2019 17:19

Just Leave and "someone can sort it all out afterwards" 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just jump over the cliff and "someone can sort it all out afterwards"

JPCampbellBiz@JP_Biz

In one sentence Sajid Javid refers to Ireland as ‘the tail that wags the dog’ & the need to build goodwill & confidence in Ireland.

Just tremendous diplomacy. Confused

bellinisurge · 02/06/2019 17:25

I'm sorry that a few people are turning to the idea of stockpiling again.
Although I am no big fan of Jack Monroe, I had ordered, on a whim, her latest book - Tin Can Cook. It arrived recently and is actually pretty helpful.
If you are thinking about it, please continue to be proportionate andrealistic. Little drinks and drabs where your budget allows rather than big spending sprees. Going into debt is never a good prep.
As always, happy to be a sounding board for ideas. And to nick your brilliant onesSmile

Hazardtired · 02/06/2019 17:30

bellini ahh thank you for the reminder. Jack Monroe from what I've seen does do some thoughtful recipes. I completely forgot about her so will look up her website again.

(She posts recipes on her blog/social media for anyone on a budget.)

DGRossetti · 02/06/2019 17:30

Little drinks and drabs

Oh every night.

Ah, you meant dribs .....

BigChocFrenzy · 02/06/2019 17:31

May should have quit as PM immediately after her resignation speech - let Liddington be the caretaker

She's a Zombie PM who can't even get her Brexit through a Zombie Parliament
Every govt in the world knows it.

The EUCO reportedly gave her hugs and kisses at their farewell
That's just friends being gracious

I doubt if Trump will be gracious (she wouldn't want any bodily contact with him, anyway)
He never had any respect for her to start with and now he can insult her with impunity

NoWordForFluffy · 02/06/2019 17:39

It's like Prince Philip is involved in running the country. In numerous positions. 🙄

I'm going to get the summer / DCs' birthdays out of the way first then make a proper stockpiling plan. I should have a good idea what veg I'll be getting from the allotment by then, so will know what not to buy.

This has bloody disaster written all over it.

1tisILeClerc · 02/06/2019 17:41

Maybe she will get to snog the orange one this week?

bellinisurge · 02/06/2019 17:49

@DGRossetti GrinGrin Freudian slip. Alcohol is an important part of my preps.

_ NHS 'On The Table' In Post-Brexit US-UK Trade Deal, Says American Ambassador_

The NHS would be “on the table” in any post-Brexit UK-US trade deal agreed by Donald Trump, the American ambassador has said.

Woody Johnson said on Sunday said the “entire economy” would be part of any transatlantic agreement.
< he means the entire UK economy >

Asked in the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show if this included healthcare, Johnson said: “I would think so.”
....
Labour has warned US pharmaceutical companies must be stopped from “getting their hands” on the NHS under the terms of any trade deal.
....
Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, has warned that
Congress will not approve any trade deall* if Brexit causes “any harm” to the Good Friday Agreement.

< so that means an NI-only backstop; it doesn't protect rUK, because Congress will want US business to loot rUk, just not NI >
