Who should I vote for in the European Elections?

I really want to remain in the EU or at the very least have a second referendum. How do I find out which party in my area that supports this has the best chance of winning seats?

I've tried google but can't find what I'm looking for...

tactically not practically...

[[https://www.remainunited.org/ updated voting advice maps]]

I was out today in London, and overheard a number of conversations about who people were voting for tomorrow, or had already voted if postal voters. I have never heard the EU elections discussed like this before.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 23:34

remainunited still saying vote Lib Dems in London.

Contradicicts other website.

I've voted LibDems now so LET'S BE HAVING YA!

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 08:00

@MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet You vote for a party. The more votes your party gets the more of those candidates take a seat.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 08:03

@RomanyQueen1

No it’s not pointless at all. Your constituency (region) has 6+ seats so there’s all to play for. Please use your vote. Every vote for a Remain party sends a message.

Mistigri · 23/05/2019 08:08

@RomanyQueen1 I don't think there is a single constituency where there will not be at least one remain MEP.

If in doubt vote, and assuming you don't have time to weigh up the pros and cons of the different tactical voting websites, then the safest remain vote is probably LD.

Trezo · 23/05/2019 08:36

I voted Labour they offer a people's vote Lib Dems with Tories Austerity There are far too many right wing parties here and in EU we need to have socialism represented in the EU Labour for the many.

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 09:37

"It's pointless in my area as most are for Brexit, a huge majority."

That's not how it works. I live in a hardcore Leave area but the whole of NW England (my EU constituency) isn't hardcore Leave. My LibDem vote will add to all the other LibDem voters in NW England. That's rather a lot.

If you care about Democracy vote The Brexit Party in this election.

Unless you think it is ok for that lot currently in power to take the British electorate as mugs.

AlphaJura · 23/05/2019 09:59

I'm usually labour and voting to re-elect our labour MEP who is a remainer. Also I'm in the same constituency as that prick Sargon. So any vote is a vote against him.

You do realise democracy wasn’t a one off event on 23 June 2016? The people can keep on speaking while we’re still not living in a fascist dictatorship.

TheElementsSong · 23/05/2019 10:08

"The British People cannot overturn the British People."

AlphaJura · 23/05/2019 10:43

Referendums are the tool of dictators too.

Firecarrier · 23/05/2019 11:10

Oh you do amuse me JanetWeiss.

The irony is just.....

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 11:22

Go on then, I’ll bite. Why is your view of democracy correct and mine wrong?

Ces6 · 23/05/2019 12:04

You do realise democracy wasn’t a one off event on 23 June 2016?

It wasn't even an event in 2016.

  • Thousands of UK citizens disenfranchised (including me).
  • Electoral funding rules flouted.
  • Leave campaign lies and scaremongering.

That is NOT my definition of democracy. Let's do it again and make both sides stick to the rules!

Mistigri · 23/05/2019 12:22

I was also disenfranchised and there not much interest from any party in re-enfranchising me, despite it being a Tory manifesto promise.

Funny how some manifesto promises are considered absolute democratic commitments but others can be safely ignored.

This election is to select MEPs to represent UK concerns in Brussels. It is not a 'UK' election as such and it is better to have an MEP who is active knowledgeable and respectful of those who elect them, rather than a political (UK) party) that they may be affiliated to.
That said, it is likely that 'Pro European' candidates might tend to be from LD, or Green parties, but there are also some quiet and diligent members who may represent Labour or Conservative.
What is wrong here is that UK internal politics is likely to take cues from the choice of MEP, which are not directly related.
Big Gob Farage did the many other MEPs a great disservice as he was continually as cross purposes when in Brussels deliberately disrupting debates and then failing to attend or vote in bills that would have helped the UK. It is Farage who sold the UK fishermen 'down the river', by failing to debate and vote. The bars in Brussels are very attractive however.

Peregrina · 23/05/2019 12:55

How about starting with your own party and ask your Leader how he was elected. Oh, that's right, his party doesn't have members just mugs calling themselves supporters, and he appointed himself.

Try doing a little bit of homework about how people have fought and died for democracy before posting stupid statements.
