Who should I vote for in the European Elections?

I really want to remain in the EU or at the very least have a second referendum. How do I find out which party in my area that supports this has the best chance of winning seats?

I've tried google but can't find what I'm looking for...

Change might have had potential but they seem too 'old school' and don't appreciate that they have not just to oppose their former parties but be 'twice as good' with simple but effective ideas, promote their core purpose and hammer down doors.
Being 'luke warm' and 'not as bad as them' is nowhere near enough.

[https://www.remainvoter.com/]] gives the way you can vote tactically in your region to ensure the greatest number of Remain supporting MEPs.

www.remainvoter.com/

A link that actually works

Theclearing · 21/05/2019 09:40

Ah crap I’m south east and did Lib Dem (postal) but that website is saying now vote tactically for change uk! Just to warn you

1tisILeClerc · 21/05/2019 09:51

I suppose in 'ordinary' times 'Change UK might have been OK, but we are not in ordinary times and the remain parties have to be mega positive and proactive like it is going out of fashion.
Farage is appearing to get 'supporters' and he has no policies or plans, apart from 'fund the Farage'.

...gives the way you can vote tactically in your region to ensure the greatest number of Remain supporting MEPs.

As I mentioned before, Remianervoter concept is deeply flawed.

Firstly, it’s premise is deeply flawed.... It is based on the principle that: a) a split Remainer voice with slightly more seats is better than b) united Remainer voice but with a couple fewer seats.

Secondly, it assumes polls are sufficiently accurate at a regional level for seats to be “safe” for one or other Remain party. Given that polls have a history of being out on Election Day let alone a week away, that’s crazy!

Thirdly, it requires just enough people to switch votes... too few it’s pointless, too many and you split the vote so much you risk getting even fewer seats!

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 15:30

Well one of my family members has decided to switch from ChangeUK to LibDem, even holding his nose to do so, because ChangeUK doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Peregrina · 21/05/2019 17:35

Is this any help for voters in the South East.

Who should I vote for in the European Elections?
Fawful · 21/05/2019 17:43

Will you be voting in France @Mistigri and if so can I ask who it would be for? I can't decide between EELV and LaRM. Have LRM been making anti-immigration noises, do you think? My family are all moving to EELV. I don't know any of the people on their list. I think Hammond's party might have looked good but it's not even polling at 5%...

Fawful · 21/05/2019 17:56

*Hamon, not Hammond
My question should be another thread, sorry OP

Pepvixen · 22/05/2019 07:28

I'm torn whether to vote Change or LibDem. I don't want to split the remain vote, but I can't bear the toxic identity politics of the Lib Dems - the fact they don't know what a woman is etc.

Peridot1 · 22/05/2019 09:56

There is nobody perfect to vote for ever really though Pepvixen. My priority now is to remain in the EU. I have voted Green and I think they are not great on women either but I’ll worry about that another day!

Peregrina · 22/05/2019 10:23

blog which may help voters in the South East.

Vote CHUK and you’ll split the Remain vote and you’ll be effectively be supporting the Brexit Party! Choose your battles I think... and it’s unrealistic to expect there to be a “pure” party that reflects your views in their entirety. I’m not a fan on identity politics, but of all the things to be concerned about, that’s well down my list at this moment in time.

RomanyQueen1 · 22/05/2019 13:56

It's pointless in my area as most are for Brexit, a huge majority.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 14:11

Current advice for London:

"Current Polling predicts: 3 Remainer seats across two parties.

Smart Voting indicates: We can gain a 4th seat for a third pro-European party.

Lib Dem and Green seats look secure, so if you are Smart Voting, RemainVoter.com recommends vote Change UK to gain a 4th Remain seat in London."

I posted my vote for LIBDEM today. Hopefully it should make it on time! I accidentally left it until the last minute. It should get there tomorrow shouldn't it?

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 22/05/2019 14:14

Sorry for lowering the intellect on this thread with a basic question: am I going to be asked to vote for a party, or for a candidate? I am in the Eastern region and there are several candidates per party. I don't want to split votes/waste my vote.

My LibDem candidates are:

Barbara Gibson

Lucy Nethsingha

Fionna Tod

Stephen Robinson

Sandy Walkington

Marie Goldman

Jules Ewart

Any advice is

Tavannach · 22/05/2019 14:15

But it's PR, not first past the post.

Which area are you in.

Yaralie · 22/05/2019 14:17

It is certainly not pointless anywhere to vote LibDem. At least your vote will add to the Remain votes. It could even elect a LIbDem MEP.

Remember the Euro constituencies are huge so even if there is a majority for brexit in your immediate area, that will not apply in other parts of your region.

Yaralie · 22/05/2019 14:20

You only have one vote Must and so you vote for a party, ideally for thew Liberal Democrats. Their candidates, and the order they are in, have been selected by party members and depending on the votes they will get one or more MEPs, starting at the top of the list.

desparate4sleep · 22/05/2019 14:23

It's got to be Lib Dem based on what you want and recent polls and the local election results.... they have the momentum.
This

Shaggydog99 · 22/05/2019 14:25

I'm in Scotland and torn between SNP and lib dem. Leaning towards SNP since they have much more support so a better chance but IDK.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 22/05/2019 14:26

@Yaralie - that's beyond helpful. Thank you! Just need to show my face now.

Intothe · 22/05/2019 14:26

On my ballot there are 8 parties and 11 independents (individuals).

You can only tick ONE box (mark with an X). Either one of the parties, or one of the independents.

Sturmundcalm · 22/05/2019 19:10

@Shaggydog99 - think in Scotland the SNP are pretty much assured 3 seats but have a lot of ground to make up to get to 4, and which would be really challenging considering the dividing line on independence. LibDems are gaining ground to gain a seat but still need more votes - did see in the last couple of days that based on current projects the LDs need about 39k more votes whereas the SNP would need about 150k so LD is more realistic if you are voting purely practically (and don't have a strong view on Independence one way or t'other).
