Brexit

Who should I vote for in the European Elections?

I really want to remain in the EU or at the very least have a second referendum. How do I find out which party in my area that supports this has the best chance of winning seats?

I've tried google but can't find what I'm looking for...

I want to honour the result of the referendum.

For those who want this, there is still the choice of the Tory party, or perhaps in your region the Labour candidates. You are not forced to vote for the Fascist rabble rouser's party.

purplelass · 15/05/2019 10:33

I think Libdem have the slogan “bollocks to Brexit” so I think that’d be your best option

Some who have received this leaflet are not old enough to vote.

You can go on the register before you are 18 if you expect to become 18 in the lifetime of the register. It's a bit of an outdated rule now, because you can now register on line and they keep updating the register, although not in real time. At one time you needed to be on the register in the October and then when it came into force it was good for the year. My DD is back with us for the time being, so put herself on the register here at the beginning of March and was able to vote in the May elections.

If they are under 16 then I don't know - and it sounds a bit dodgy.

Bollocks to Brexit

I'm voting Lib Dem too. One of their MEPs has already done good work on fighting people trafficking (Catherine Bearder) so I hope she gets re-elected in the South-East.

Peregrina · 15/05/2019 10:48

I most certainly hope that Catherine Bearder gets in again. In an ideal world, (and if my prayers are answered) the LibDems with Catherine as No 1 would come top, which would push Fartage down to at least second, and that would really piss him off.

Mistigri · 15/05/2019 10:54

I'm in the South East

Easy choice then with Catherine Bearder as a sitting LD MEP :)

@ bellinisurge
"Hurray! Copper sulphate has joined us. Lots of cheery news to share."

There really is no need for this comment, so MN!

bellinisurge · 15/05/2019 11:36

If you recall. The Brexit Arms threads were full of"cheery news" quote unquote. Their words not mine.
And this poster has their own thread called "Rejoice ".
Is it only an MN quirk if non-Leavers use it? Otherwise it's fine. Or should that be fiiiiiiiiine.

As someone said upthread, this is a single-issue election. I’ve been a lifelong Labour voter but spent last evening delivering leaflets for the LibDems. Although Labour have some excellent pro-reman MEPs (eg SEB Dance in London) you vote for a party, not a person, in these elections. So only a party with an unequivocal pro-Remain position should get the vote of anyone who wants to remain. The LDs, Greens and Change all qualify but the LDs seem the best organised and have most experience.
Bollocks to Brexit!

Peregrina · 15/05/2019 12:21

IMO at least the SDP were a fairly coherent bunch - the right wing of the then Labour Party. Change UK is a mish mash - of disaffected Labour MPs with varying reasons for their disaffection, and moderate Tories, who make you wonder why the Tory party ever appealed to them. the three ex Tories should have stayed Independent, in this Parliament at least, without allying themselves to any others.

AutumnCrow · 15/05/2019 13:20

I'm glad Catherine Bearder is popular, especially as she's up against Farage.

Alsohuman · 15/05/2019 14:20

So Farage might get ousted? Best news I’ve heard in years. That would make me delirious with happiness.

Peregrina · 15/05/2019 14:30

With ten seats up for grabs in the South East, and Farage being No 1 on the Brexit list, I doubt if he'd get ousted, but it would still be good if he didn't top the vote, which would also mean that there was a good chance that fewer of his fascist friends got elected.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/05/2019 16:36

Just checked the brexit leaflet we received today

And it’s addressed to me!

Oh the horror!!

bellinisurge · 15/05/2019 16:53

Don't worry about it being addressed to you. All candidates have access to the full register for a one off electoral communication. You get one named communication from whoever can afford to send one to you

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/05/2019 16:56

But why not dh...or ds1

Only joking...its in the recycling

AutumnCrow · 15/05/2019 16:57

Post it back to Farage. Without a stamp.

Dottierichardson · 15/05/2019 17:07

In my area the research shows the safest bet is Lib Dem, not my usual party, but if I vote for a smaller remain party then risk splitting the vote and enabling more seats for the Farage brigade. So Lib Dem it is.

VerityAl · 15/05/2019 17:07

Is the consensus for Remain to vote Lib Dem in the Eastern Region?

Yaralie · 15/05/2019 17:24

The best advice for Remainers is to vote LibDem in ALL regions of England. That should maximise the number of Remainer MEPs elected.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/05/2019 17:27

That people's vote test page has Labour as a supporter of a PV, which is bending the truth. I'd say that it's really not a helpful website as it could split votes.

I've spoken to people at work today who don't normally vote LD, but will in this election. They're gaining momentum!

AutumnCrow · 15/05/2019 17:29

Yes, Lib Dems have been unequivocal about this, to their credit.

Alsohuman · 15/05/2019 18:58

Libdem is the only safe vote and the more people who vote that way the better.
