Westminstenders: Local Elections Madness

This week has gone from banging your head against the wall to wanting to bang your head through it.

Labour have voted to support a 2nd ref as their EU election campaign strategy. Only for Corbyn to ignore it. And a row has broken out.

Change UK seem well on track to make everyone else look professional and to look as 'liberal elite' as humanly possible in a real life reverse paraody of themselves.

The Brexit Party is going from strength to strength with the most wtf candidates imaginable and Farage is happy cos his mate is coming to tea with the Queen.

The Liberal Democrats have decided that anti semitism is OK in an effort to keep Labour seats.

And the Conservatives. Where to start? Probably with the Tory Leadership Election infighting which looks suspiciously as if its now breached national security.

As for Brexit. No one really wants to talk about it. Local elections are next week. May is now apparently supporting the Malthouse Compromise. Be warned, it is difficult to see it as anything but a Trojan Horse for No Deal. Not that everyone has worked this out yet. But until we have the blood bath of the local elections over and done with on Thursday, don't expect much to happen.

Then expect the Tories to lose their minds...

yolofish · 27/04/2019 22:45

marking my spot with a cat on my lap. Why has it all gone so bloody quiet???

mathanxiety · 27/04/2019 22:50

The local elections account for that.

Many thanks RTB

Littlespaces · 27/04/2019 22:54

Thanks.

It isn't just Tories losing their minds.

Thanks, red 💐

Passing Malthouse means Macron at the next EUCO telling the other 26: "Told ya !"
and then everyone joining him in the October EUCO to deny a further extension
So it'd be No Deal

However, when the HoC voted last month on Malthouse, most MPs seemed to realise this:

AYES 174
NOES 374

Hopefully the Malthouse parrot will remain dead and finally receive a proper burial.

Trying to work out who to vote for in local elections to send message that about Brexit. I’m in very safe Labour and Brexit voting area.

My choices - Green Labour, Conservative, UKIP, socialist alternative ( Think this used to be Trident) and a local candidate who believes in devolution to my area, nothing I can find about views on Brexit.

I’d like to vote Green but worried will just shave something from a Labour - could get UKIP.

Thanks RTB.

The Euro polling cards came for the 4 of us today and I immediately thought of you lot! 😍Grin

So who's voting Tigger?

CrunchyCarrot · 28/04/2019 07:14

Thanks, Red.

Local elections - already voted (postal) for the Greens. They're the only ones who bothered to send leaflets (3 times!).

Awaiting Euro polling cards, that's going to be a tougher choice, will hold off making that until I have more information. At the mo our region has 2 Tories, 2 Labs, 2 Brexit and 1 Ind (ex UKIP) so we'll need to put some effort in to get either Change or Lib Dems or Greens.

PMK. Many thanks, Red.

wherearemychickens · 28/04/2019 07:24

My understanding is his vote share hasn't really shifted though?

lljkk · 28/04/2019 07:34

Our EuroPoll cards arrived yesterday. District I voted LibDem & Town (parish) I voted Labour.

There is a webpage somewhere that speculates how to vote in Euro elections depending on your area, assuming you want to support EU project, based on 2014 returns. To do with the PR system EU uses. My area the answer is Green, but I guess they will split voters with ChangeUK. I hope UKIP & Brexit party fragment each other's voters.

My current MEPs are most Euroskeptics, boohoo. Currently affiliated to:
3x Con
1 x Labour
1 x SDP
1 x UKIP
1 x BrexitP

Malthouse isn't a compromise at all. Confused

{ Probably with the Tory Leadership Election infighting which looks suspiciously as if its now breached national security.}

Simples really, ask the Chines, Russians or the USA, to get the real info. The only issue is they wouldn't say because it would then show they can hack the data.

{Farage certainly appeals to a lot of people, doesn't he?}

That will be an absolute NO from me!

RHTawneyonabus · 28/04/2019 08:00

I can’t believe grown ups who should know better are still discussing Malthouse!

On good thing that is likely to come out of Brexit is that our council will swing to Lib Dems but I’m hugely worried about the EPs and the split remain vote.

I can’t work out if I should vote for labour if the support a second ref (I’ve never lived anywhere where it was worth voting labour before) on the basis that they will swing behind it or Change as support for them is pretty single issue.

Iambuffy · 28/04/2019 08:21

Had a labour leaflet through the door.
And for the independant councillor.

Malthouse?

Ffs!

1tisILeClerc · 28/04/2019 08:22

While this is at a bit of a tangent it has some interesting parallels and insight.
The rationing of food to the Germans (by the British) at 1000 to 1200 calories a day, depending on what type of work they were doing is interesting, the higher amount for manual labour I presume.

Compare and contrast what the British government was achieving, the reconstruction of the UK and directing operations in the 'British' sector of Germany.

There is also a documentary about Hamburg, and it's reconstruction following the firestorm that the allies subjected it to.
In the UK now we have politicians fiddling expenses and 'telling tales' what has become of them?
