Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

The question now is when do the talks between the government and Labour stop because no agreement is reached? Because TM said that would trigger voting to gain consensus in parliament which she said (ha!) that she would follow the result of, and they obviously need to move relatively swiftly to ensure time isn't wasted (ha! again).

I would think they'll get their break next week and get back to it after that, hopefully refreshed and at least recovered a bit from Brexit fatigue.

I would also hope that if we were in the midst of PV planning, with a set date slightly after 31 October, then a further extension would be granted until after that vote takes place. Though, in theory, if it can be arranged quickly (ha!), then that should not be necessary.

And yes, we have the flextension mooted by the lovely Mr Tusk pre-meeting.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2019 07:38

Struggling to get going this morning! Still in bed.

Iambuffy · 11/04/2019 07:44

Lets all hope for a drubbing for the Tories in the local elections and.please.god for farage to lose his seat

Tanith · 11/04/2019 07:50

“Tusk: Please do not waste this time”

He means all of us.

Six months will go quickly. We need to keep up the pressure throughout, not in the very last few days of the extension.

PowerBadgersUnite · 11/04/2019 07:51

I'm trying to look on the bright side that at least we're not falling over a cliff edge, but the on the other hand another six months of this shit might just finish me off.

We only stockpiled a small amount compared to some and always planned on keeping it going whatever happened in case of other emergencies. If nothing else brexit has made me realise how useful having a stash of food about is...so that's something.

Iambuffy · 11/04/2019 07:53

I'm going to sort my stockpile out.
I'll take some to the foodbank.

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 07:54

Yes, I have actually really enjoyed not running out of things, because you can just pop upstairs to the stash. We might run down quantities a bit but keep the variety.

magimedi · 11/04/2019 07:56

^^^ This is so right.

But am happy that we have another 6 months - even though I woke up to a non functioning boiler - brrrr.

Iambuffy · 11/04/2019 07:57

May I ask a favour?
Obv nothing is being debated in HofC except brexshit...
Can I ask that as well as keeping up the pressure on MPs for remain, please also point out that Tory austerity is causing huge suffering and a massive increase in food bank use.
Our food bank has seen footfall increase by 53% since the implementation of UC.
Thank you.

Iambuffy · 11/04/2019 07:59

On a selfish note if we are still in the eu at October half term it'll make our trip to Dublin easier!

LASH38 · 11/04/2019 08:00

I’ve always stockpiled to an extent. When things are on offer particularly 241 I tend to spend what I would have and buy twice the amount, especially on toiletries, cleaning and non perishables.

My Brexit stockpile was just more products.

I hope that fatigue doesn’t descend back into apathy on the remain side during this extension.

However I suspect that all sorts of shenanigans will take place with the continued waning of support for Brexit, hopefully leading to revoke.

This thread has constantly mentioned that unlikely candidates often win the leadership race - new remain leaning PM in the next few months?

NoWordForFluffy · 11/04/2019 08:01

Every time there's a HoC vote, 38 Degrees sends me an email which allows me to then email my MP with the choices I wish him to take while voting. I'll keep up with those as often as I get them even though the line-toeing git never responds to me so I can get my point across.

The longer this goes on, the less people will be interested. I think many people have had enthusiasm and interest sucked out of them by the ongoing, frustrating, saga.

lonelyplanetmum · 11/04/2019 08:04

Buffy 53% is crazy. Are there any region by region food bank stats we can use when writing to MPs ( not that mine will care anyway).
I'm being lazy sorry can probably google the stats.

Good luck with the boiler magimedi. I know it's absurd but we had problems with our boiler - our now ex plumber was a definite no deal Brexiter from what he said and his FB. So I switched plumbers to a remainy one.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 11/04/2019 08:07

Morning all and thanks to Red.

Not sure how I feel today. I was heartened by the idea of a year’s extension, which I felt would lead to remaining in the EU. Whilst I’m relieved we’re avoiding No Deal this week these six months will go so quickly.

I assume summer recess will go ahead? It’s all too plausible to imagine the House reconvening in September no further forward.

Inniu · 11/04/2019 08:08

If the UK is going to have a proper PV then it will need at least 6 months to prepare if not longer.

Have a proper citizens assembly where non party political people look at the issues and reports and come up with a recommendation and then formulate the question for a PV vote based on that.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 11/04/2019 08:09

Sos
^TM got an extension which is what she wanted on the back of bogus talks with Labour. The situation is exactly the same. TM will continue to bully, play her games, lie and refuse to compromise in any shape or form. The blame game will be at the forefront. She will not revoke nor will she agree to a PV. It will always be her deal and nothing else because it has always been about her not the country. She will not step down, they will have to carry her out kicking and screaming before she ever goes.
So we have yet another 6 months of this farce, more humiliation for the country, more division and rhetoric and more importantly domestic affairs being shoved away while Brexit stays at the forefront.
Am I happy for this extension? Does it save us from an eventual no deal? Time will tell^

This^ Not the EUs best hour. ERG will see this as wavering on their part ( they need us more than we need them)

TM couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag and at least 3 months will be lost wasting time and then there would be no time for anything else to solve this. .

If you contact your local food bank and ask they should be able to tell you their stats since uc was introduced.
however, some foodban k managers are not as helpful as others!
You could also try the trussell trust website which has lots of stats usually or you could phone them and ask. THey are very helpful x

A bit random but was trying to find out if feeling flat after a temporary reprieve from disaster is a thing.

I couldn't find anything but found this anyway which was interesting.

Henry and Stephens (1977) conclude that one of core sociobiological drives in human beings is the drive to form groups for interpersonal support. This drive...appears to be one of the pillars, not only for individual survival, but for societal survival as well. ...Henry and Stephens (1977) refer to this sociobiologic drive for affiliation and support as “the cement of society.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 08:16

The EU seems desperate to avoid anything that looks like it's forcing a decision on us. It keeps putting the ball back in our court.
It's now probably playing for the possibility of a PV.

missclimpson · 11/04/2019 08:17

The Ouest France Brexit headline today is, "L'art britannique de la procrastination"...
And finishes with, "En attendant un pénalty miraculeux à la 119ème minute"....

LASH38 · 11/04/2019 08:17

Haven’t caught up so not sure if this has been asked but...

What happens to all the manufacturers who bought closure forward to March/April? They cannot do the same again in Oct?

This period is English Folly. English made and inspired by past days when ‘folly’ was a common word.

TwistedBiscuit · 11/04/2019 08:28

PMK, good morning from my office here in the heart of Old Europe Smile

LASH38 Congratulations on your newborn!

Thanks Red.

David Lammy thinks the EU has done a better job of standing up for the rights, interests and freedoms of the British public than our own government.

I tend to agree.

I'm another not knowing how I feel or think!

Relieved to not be out this Friday obviously but I thought we'd only get this long of an extension if there was going to be a PV or GE. It's more uncertainty... I'm really over uncertainty.

How on earth are we meant to plan any big life changes like moving or job changing?

Did I say I'm so over uncertainty and I'm tired?
