Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

Thanks Red. I had a rough night for non-Brexit related reasons.
I remember when dd was a baby, if I got up with her and The Record Europe was on BBC news channel, I was up too early. It was so fecking dull - a Far East Grand Prix was better. I miss dull Euro news.

PMK thanks again Red
My stockpile includes some essential oils - I add lavender or geranium to sea salt for a soak in the bath, soothing, calming and uplifting in these troubled times. Tea tree oil is good against fungal nail infections (as informed by a chiropodist, paint on with cotton bud) as well as nits.

Can the Conservatives get rid of May ? as in, is there actually anything procedurally that they could do to oust her ? I have a feeling there isn't and I also have a feeling she has no intention of leaving in the foreseeable future.

As for Brexit , I still don't think it is going to happen Smile

The cat feels staying in bed is the best thing to do. I don’t disagree with her

Former Irish ambassador to EU commenting on May & Merkel laughing at photo of them in their matching blue suits

It’s not so much what’s on the iPad that matters. It’s Merkel’s emotional intelligence in including May in the friendship and laughter. Top class as always

Such a contrast to posturing, vindictive Macron.

The pumpkins have it. The pumpkins have it! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Not sure how I feel really but the children will be happy to eat the sweets and chocolate now 🙄

DH just reminded me before he left for work (I start later) that we will be in Ireland for Halloween. Hopefully DD's Irish citizenship will be through by then although our Irish passports might not be.

countrygirl99 · 11/04/2019 07:05

Phew, glad we decided to renew our EHICs last week!
April 12th is a sad date for me, think I would have buried myself under the duvet for 24 hours if it was exit day as well.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 07:05

Am I right in thinking we now have a Halloween cliff edge if no deal is sorted?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 11/04/2019 07:06

So, enough time for a bit of can-kicking, but is it enough time for a PV leading to a revoke? I doubt it; they won't make the decision fast enough and we'll be back in this position in early Oct I bet. Not feeling optimistic at all this morning.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 11/04/2019 07:10

Meanwhile in Switzerland, where they know how to run referenda:

Schona Jolly QC
@WomaninHavana
Swiss Court overturns a referendum on basis of incorrect info given to voters.

“Keeping in mind the close result & the severe nature of the irregularities, it is possible that the outcome of the ballot could have been different.”

Another level of debate.

I’ve been mainly lurking with the occasional post.

Thank you all for the knowledge, as with others Westministenders has taught me the mechanisms of British politics, I read daily and it is my primary source of news and analysis.

Westministenders has seen me through a job change, 2 IVF cycles, pregnancy, labour (Brexit got heated during my 30hr labour) and now the constant feeding of a newborn. Grin

Well I have no idea what will happen but found the Peston tweet about May’s response to PV question at PMQ interesting, DH and I were just saying how much has happened since the March that it seems like ages ago.

SingaSong12 · 11/04/2019 07:20

I’mtgetting my news mostly through here. Could someone knowledgeable tell me whether this is a set extension or flexible. If (biiig if) the MPs agreed a deal such as passing WA would that mean they would be able to ask EU to go in June or another date, or would it always be 1 November?

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 07:20

Are we definitely holding European elections?

Iambuffy · 11/04/2019 07:20

Sostenueto · 11/04/2019 07:21

TM got an extension which is what she wanted on the back of bogus talks with Labour. The situation is exactly the same. TM will continue to bully, play her games, lie and refuse to compromise in any shape or form. The blame game will be at the forefront. She will not revoke nor will she agree to a PV. It will always be her deal and nothing else because it has always been about her not the country. She will not step down, they will have to carry her out kicking and screaming before she ever goes.
So we have yet another 6 months of this farce, more humiliation for the country, more division and rhetoric and more importantly domestic affairs being shoved away while Brexit stays at the forefront.
Am I happy for this extension? Does it save us from an eventual no deal? Time will tell.Sad

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 11/04/2019 07:22

Merkel is, indeed, a top class politician with the rare combination of consistent morals, emotional intelligence and one of the most intelligent minds.

Returning to home politics... I to plan to eat/food bank a good half of the stockpile. Probably never a terrible thing to have some food in 'just in case' but we seem to have no cliff edge in the coming weeks. I bet the travel industry has a phenomenal day today after a poor 1st quarter!!!

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 11/04/2019 07:24

SingaSong my understanding is this is still a flextension and if the WA is passed we leave on the 1st of the following calendar month. A right pain for the EU27 and their EU elections/ candidates.

wherearemychickens · 11/04/2019 07:27

Yes, my understanding is that it's flexible too.

SingaSong12 · 11/04/2019 07:28

Thanks Vanity

borntobequiet · 11/04/2019 07:30

Given that stockpiling reportedly boosted the economy in the three months up to Feb by 0.3%, can we expect to see a reverse effect over the next few months? And subsequent ups and downs until bloody Brexit is sorted?
