Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

People might find this article interesting. theconversation.com/amp/brexit-is-a-rejection-of-the-good-friday-agreement-114965

Francois arriving on a stage and the audience with their arms out to him, like some sort of idol

Right arm outstretched Hmm ?

DGRossetti · 11/04/2019 10:29

@theresa_may on whether there should be a confirmatory Brexit referendum. She says she doesn't want one, but she seemed to be encouraging MPs to vote for one. #PMQs’

Nothing odd about that - plenty of PMs have done things that they personally don't agree with, but feel is for the greater good. Something that marks Thatcher out for respect (the AIDS campaign, for example).

Jins · 11/04/2019 10:29

Delurked to say that I’ve just emailed treeza. She keeps saying that her correspondents tell her to get on with it so I sent one for balance.

I struggled to fit in into 1000 characters tbh

DGRossetti · 11/04/2019 10:29

They report many people are reacting to the lack of Brexit by threatening never to vote again.

It's probably incendiary to speculate that could raise the quality of the candidates .....

lonelyplanetmum · 11/04/2019 10:30

But also at EU level
For problematic digital political campaigns.

How dare the EU try and prevent US and Russian money interfering in member countries elections!

If any individual country wants to allow Putin (and his state employed IT professionals) to interfere with democratic processes, it should be allowed to.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 10:30

Where are our leave posters this morning??

howabout · 11/04/2019 10:31

Best Twitter comment. What if the EU had imposed a 50 year "Extension"?

lonelyplanetmum · 11/04/2019 10:32

This is brilliant news..

Fluffy -shush! Best response is oh ok then.,,

Sostenueto · 11/04/2019 10:35

May I ask a favour?
Obv nothing is being debated in HofC except brexshit...
Can I ask that as well as keeping up the pressure on MPs for remain, please also point out that Tory austerity is causing huge suffering and a massive increase in food bank use.
Our food bank has seen footfall increase by 53% since the implementation of UC.

This is exactly what continual extensions on Brexit is doing to much more important issues that are happening. Our constant indulgence in Brexit is not allowing any of the above problems, the NHS woes, schools underfunding, food banks, poverty, knife crime, DWP and continued austerity while billions, yes billions being spent on Brexit , etc all being ignored. Angry

lonelyplanetmum · 11/04/2019 10:35

New leader of the Tories
GE
PV

Any other ideas??

Reversal of austerity.
Money for schools
Ditto NHS
PR
ERG forming nice new party
International apologies
Humble pie

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 10:36

Silence from Leave posters on my local community FB page. Heard someone on Radio 5 with the "we voted leave we just want to leave" thing. Guessing they are waiting to hear what the Usual Suspects say and then parrot that.

woman19 · 11/04/2019 10:37

@metpoliceuk
Julian Assange has been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service news.met.police.uk/news/arrest-update-sw1-365526 …

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/04/2019 10:38

DGR - this is the pic, I have to say I was quite Shock and think it was at the leave collective the week after our march www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/apr/10/brexit-delay-frustration-in-hard-brexiteer-francois-rayleigh

As for people who threaten not to vote; perfectly sums up how UK has ended up voting to shoot itself in it's foot.

DGRossetti · 11/04/2019 10:38

Something different needs to happen now if we are going to avoid being in exactly the same situation on October 31st.

I think it's the opposite. Something doesn't need to happen now. It can take a little while. Breathing space. Wiser heads, etc.

If you take the view that Leave are being funded (somehow) looking for a result, it certainly raises the stakes for the backers to now decide if they have enough funds to carry on spaffing their message for another 6 months and at least two public votes that could decidedly go against them. Both local and EU elections being subject to real-teeth type oversight, and the EU elections being much harder to game than an "in/out" referendum.

All against a backdrop of what seems to be the UKs unchallenged position as becoming one of, if not the best informed and aware electorate in the EU. Albeit not by design .....

Remember, we were told that if this day came the streets would be running red with blood. That the fury of "leavers denied" would be on a biblical scale, with door-to-door snatch squads undertaking checks to see who hasn't got a copy of "The Great Escape" and a picture of Her Madge to salute each night. The lack of that happening will not be lost on some.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 10:38

Interesting stuff. Wonder if he will squeal on Farage now.

Tonsilss · 11/04/2019 10:40

What we really really need is a new leader of the Labour party. A proper opposition. Someone prepared to fight for Remain. It would be very interesting to see Yvette Cooper leading Labour.

TheABC · 11/04/2019 10:41

I think the EU elections will be interesting - if nothing else,it has woken up the student vote. And naturally, if you are a Leaver, you won't want anything to do with it.

Theresa is a dead PM walking. I will be watching carefully to see what the other parties do next. It's time for Corbyn to get off the bloody fence!

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/04/2019 10:43

Re Assange - I really hope this is the start of our own investigation.

TheABC · 11/04/2019 10:44

Agree with @Tonsilss. Yvette Cooper would be interesting to see in action. Sadly, I think we are stuck with the current leaders for the time being unless something drastic changes in the political parties or their personal health (I really want to escort the PM to a spa for a week or so. She needs it!).

DGRossetti · 11/04/2019 10:45

DGR - this is the pic

From 1981 - The Police

Billy's joined the National Front
He always was a little runt
He's got his hands in the air with the other cunts, you gotta humanize yourself

...

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/04/2019 10:45

The Assange thing is interesting because, from what I can gather, Ecuador knew he had something to do with the ref and were angry because they want to stay on good terms with UK. So they bugged him. I wouldn't be surprised if something gathered in the months that followed comes out to help us end up with revoke...

woman19 · 11/04/2019 10:45

I really hope this is the start of our own investigation
Interesting timing.

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/04/2019 10:47

@woman yes, and only a few weeks after a certain plane landed. The EU are giving us time for this I suspect, nothing else. That is why we are all very aware nothing else has changed.

woman19 · 11/04/2019 10:49

www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jan/19/trump-russia-inquiry-is-told-nigel-farage-may-have-given-julian-assange-data

Shame, looks like this will co oincide with the launch of his brexit party. Wink
