Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

The Times thinks there will be a long extension if it doesn't go through. I realise that just sets us up for the same rigmarole this time next year or a bit earlier, but at least we can get on with our lives in the interim (and it gives even more people a chance to meet residency requirements).

Not to forget contingency/advanced purchasing - two extra weeks to fill our freezers.

PMK

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 08:45

I don't really know what I want. On the one hand, if it's agreed, it staves off a no deal Brexit.

But if it is agreed, Brexit is definitely happening.

:(

countrygirl - according to the Scotland's Future White Paper, a Scottish grandparent would be enough to get a Scottish passport Smile

woman19 · 29/03/2019 08:48

Choreography.

@IanDunt
It actually got worse. Humphrys encouraging Fox to adopt Leave.EU style threats about civil society breakdown. Fox resisted. He was literally more moderate than the BBC interviewer.

To those condoning and joking about what's being incited here on BBC and elsewhere on mums net; for the millions of us whose children work in central London, this is also an absolutely terrifying day

Please remember this

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 08:49

I want it amended to include a PV and then passed. But I appreciate that is a unicorn.

Random18 · 29/03/2019 08:51

@prettybird it’s the only hope we have now.
Good to know grandkids would be ok too.
And if it’s no Deal and everything goes tor’s up then there’s little keeping us in England.

Random18 · 29/03/2019 08:51

Should say tits up not tor’s upConfused

Violetparis · 29/03/2019 08:53

Lisa Nandy has put an amendment forward saying the WA could be approved on condition that Parliament has a say on a future relationship. Could this bring more Labour MPs round to supporting the WA today ?

Yes it will, but what an idiot! in a hung Parliament sure, they can have a say but after the next GE, that may not be the case and in a tory majority govt, people like Nandy will be shouting their objections from the opposition benches and ignored... has she really learned nothing over the last 2 years?

Sorry but once the WA is passed, the ERG types will be negotiating the future relationship, much harder brexit.

icannotremember · 29/03/2019 09:01

Even facing no deal as we are, there is joy in knowing that tomorrow morning I will wake up still an EU citizen.

PestyMachtubernahme · 29/03/2019 09:05

Fuck knows, I'm past caring, it's like the living dead in there

Nicholas Watt, state broadcaster - political editor - Newsnight, quoting a cabinet minister.

Jonathan Pie won't be able to top that

ContinuityError · 29/03/2019 09:06

Latest odds on WA to pass:

No = 1/3
Yes = 3/1

SusanWalker · 29/03/2019 09:09

I wonder if TM is hoping the thugs outside will intimidate MPs into voting for her deal and that's why she's doing the vote today.

What a mess it all is.

I think it's very short sighted of her to put the feelings of the Tommy Robinson contingency above the people who have signed the petition/marched. The people signing and marching are much more likely to vote, and more likely to vote Tory, than the hardliners who will consider voting for all the little parties like UKIP or For Britain.

She needs to do a speech where she says that brexit is so important to us that it's more important to do it right than quickly. She could take some of the heat out of this if she wanted to.

I do think she thinks that in the future we will decide that her deal was marvellous and that she will go down in history as a brilliant pm, who fought against the remain parliament to bring us an orderly brexit.

Any tips on watching the vote with a leaver present?
I didn't realise the vote was so early, my mother will be here.

Stay safe London people.

Sostenueto · 29/03/2019 09:20

No sign of leave mob on TV?

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 09:20

Still so much talk on state broadcaster about how people, or "the people" as they like to say, will react and how it will affect democracy and people's trust in Parliament. What planet have these people been living on for the last 3 years? NO ONE has ANY trust in the government or media or Parliament any more. This is why the phrase Broken Britain is a global buzzword.

The idea that anything that happens now will return us to where we were pre-ref or anywhere near as stable is completely insane. Why does the state broadcaster insist on repeating such an empty pointless sentiment?

MockerstheFeManist · 29/03/2019 09:21

Happy B-Day!

A strangely appropriate allusion as we ablute this mess.

Our politics is broken. Our main political parties have all lost the library, never mind the plot. The Palace of Westminster is quite literally falling down. The ice caps are melting and the Spice Girls are back together.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

I feel fine.
