Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

Morning all
Crashing out with no deal I think that is basically 'it' for many years.
Although the EU have said a swift rejoin would be possible within a 'reasonable period' IF the WA is passed and the UK stays in transition, as during this time the UK would be continuing with all current regulations.
Crash out would take a LOT of pleading considering the disgraceful way the UK government has acted over the last 2 1/2 years.

Aaaaargh!

I am not sure about this 1tis - I think the next GE will clear out a lot of the current Generation of politicians. May, Deadwood Redwood, Davis, Fox et al. will probably find they would like to spend more time tending their investments gardens/walking/enjoying the grandchildren, and a new generation will rise up.

But it won't be in time to bring back those industries which have decided to relocate.

This vote today sounds crazy-‘vote for my deal and I promise we will sort the rest of the details out later and everyone will be happy!’ Even though we haven’t been able to do this for the last 3 years.

I was once asked to counter-sign the passport form for a new child in my class who had just suddenly arrived in the country. It was a blank form. None of the form had been filled in-they wanted me to sign my bits giving my address/passport details, sign his photo and they would fill their details in later.

I said no.

pepinana · 29/03/2019 07:15

Do people really think it'll be no deal?

Random18 · 29/03/2019 07:15

What time is the vote today?

And if she’s decided on no Deal is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 07:16

It’ll be the WA or no deal, anything else feels like pie in the sky

Out of those two no deal by default as she’ll struggle to get numbers

pepinana · 29/03/2019 07:18

Hmm I don't know.

PostNotInHaste · 29/03/2019 07:23

I’m trying to let a glimmer of hope remain in me by the fact a couple of places appear to have been booked for EU elections from what a couple of people have posted and that TM needs to look very convincing about No Deal to scare everyone into her deal. Even though she said she doesn’t want No deal she says a lot of things and literally no one believes her about anything anymore.

Just been thinking in the shower, we all need to look after ourselves at the moment. If anyone gets the chance I’d try and spend a bit of time outside and take in what’s happening, Spring is here and the current clusterfuck doesnt stop that. If we go under from the stress of it wankers like Johnson who don’t give a shit about anything other than himself come out on top,

LarkDescending · 29/03/2019 07:25

Simon Jenkins retains some optimism.

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 07:28

She offered to resign to try to get ERG on board. That failed, so now she's spreading rumours about wanting No Deal to try to get opposition to break ranks. It won't work.

Interesting to see what amendments will be voted on today.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 07:28

Mojo beautiful I'd have kept all six!

67chevvyimpala · 29/03/2019 07:29

I'm going out.

I need to buy new slippers.

I may also buy chocolate.

Random18 · 29/03/2019 07:38

Voting to begin at 2.30

pepinana · 29/03/2019 07:40

I don't see how her resigning is relevant though. Surely if the ERG are so convinced it's a terrible deal it'd still be a terrible deal whether or not she was PM?!

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 07:41

What would odds be of an EP and U.K. election?

Peregrina · 29/03/2019 07:42

I hope that when the dust is settled, which it will eventually, that processes are put in place to stop Prime Ministers going rogue.

Eyewhisker · 29/03/2019 07:42

How can the conservatives have an election when they are so divided on what their EI strategy is and when they hate their leader? Another referendum would be much more logical

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 07:43

Sorry if you discussed elections yesterday I'm behind as was at work all day! Also has JC tabled no confidence Motion?

Bearbehind · 29/03/2019 07:44

I suspect that story about a GE has come from Downing St - it’s to scare the DUP into supporting the WA.

A GE means they’d lose their hold.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 07:44

I mean talked of tabling one.. or can't he?

jasjas1973 · 29/03/2019 07:45

Maybe a GE but i suspect another scare tactic, the Tories won't risk a JC Govt....would she even get the 2/3rds majority?

Though if she loses again, she has really run out of road..... anything else is unpalatable for her.

I'm at a loss why she doesn't go for a 2nd confirmatory vote, takes it out of Parliaments and her hands (maybe thats why?)

Having said that, i think the WA will go through today and we'll leave on 22/5.... feeling very sad.
