Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

born my 7yo proposed to do a timeshare, “1 month Brexit and 1 month non Brexit”, and see how it goes at the end of the year. Or maybe 6 months each way. If it wasn’t lacking practicalities, I’d consider it a fairly sensible solution. I bet after 1 month of Brexit we could get straight into a resolution and forget about it....and we didn’t have to watch these clowns jogging or pretending to be normal...

SingaSong12 · 28/03/2019 23:13

PMK - belated thanks Red. My brain hurts - i thought the EU said that the two parts of the deal could not be separated. (Have not read the last thread where I’m sure it was covered so I’ll go back at some point.)

nuttynutjob · 28/03/2019 23:17

Ohh Thuggery Day tomorrow

ConKippers, footy laddies, Waxy Lemon, Mr. Farridge et al march

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/03/2019 23:24

There is a thread in active at the moment inciting MNers to take part in the pro brexit rally tomorrow. So far most people have declined. The OP is sure there will not be any trouble, however. I think the only chance of there not being any trouble is if nobody turns up, which ... in fairness... not impossible considering their other showings.

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/03/2019 23:24

inviting not inciting. Though I suppose they might be inciting as well

CordeliaEarhart · 28/03/2019 23:31

So JRM thought the deal turned us in to a slave state, then wanted to back it if TM quit, then only if DUP supported it and now he's supporting it anyway?! He's an absolute knob.

Icantreachthepretzels · 28/03/2019 23:46

He will make some sections of the very people he helped radicalise very angry if he backs that deal. Populism is a dangerous game to play.

Can I ask for people's opinions on my situation? I have a job offer which in ordinary circumstances I would take like a shot. However, I'm really quite nervous about handing in my notice next week. I have to work out 2 month's notice, so to the end of May, and I'm worried about the security of the new job starting at the beginning of June, and the possibility of the new job making redundancies in the event of no-deal. Does anyone know what my legal position would be? The new job has a three month notice period. Would they be obliged to employ me from June to August, or could they can me before I've even started? Possibly I should be asking this somewhere else on the boards - anyone know where?

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 00:13

chickens, I'm not an expert, but afaik a company can fire you for almost any reason and you cannot take any legal action unless you have been there over two years, or you can prove it was because you have a protected characteristic. ACAS is the place to go for proper advice, or maybe the employment boards on here?

Having said that, HoC is completely against No Deal so I have that down as my least likely scenario. If it was the perfect opportunity I'd go for it. But I don't have much to lose.

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 00:13

There's a 'legal matters' board in the 'other stuff' topic and an 'employment issues' board in the 'work' topic. There might be someone there who can give you advice on where you would stand with your new job *chickens

Congrats on the job offer, though - whatever you decide.

wherearemychickens · 29/03/2019 00:15

Thanks both - I will try posting the question there.

HazardGhost · 29/03/2019 00:26

Ta red

Those newspaper front pages 😨

Do we know if the thuggery is just planned for London or all cities? ( I'm off out tomo and using taxis some companies won't go to my area as it is and they cancel buses sometimes when there are riots/trouble. Yes I live in a naice area Grin )

LonelyTiredandLow · 29/03/2019 00:32

From what I can gather police are prepared for protests around the country...whether leavers can be bothered... I suspect it will be the Tommy mob and yellow vest lot that kick it off in London and maybe set off others? Indie link - can't read more than the first para as I love my ad blocker more Grin

woodpigeons · 29/03/2019 00:52

Thank you Red

Calloway · 29/03/2019 00:54

It's my birthday today. For purely frivolous reasons I'm glad my birthday won't be forever more tainted with also being That Day.

Calloway · 29/03/2019 00:56

Is the Brexit Festival still a thing? Haven't heard mention of it since.....the day it was announced Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/03/2019 01:58

PMK

Propertybrothers · 29/03/2019 02:29

I will be visiting a friend in Luxembourg this weekend - and thought I may go and find the ECJ (or the EC or EP) and take a flag of the Union Jack still up there outside with all the other EU member flags after the 29/3 (all the EU institutions fly all the member state flags outside).

Not a scene I thought we would ever see this weekend and painfully maybe not one which may last but A beacon of hope in these dark times.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 02:44

It’s not Brexit day ( thank god). But I am still worried about the turncoat weasel MPs backing Theresa May’s deal. Until the results are out; I won’t be able to breathe today.

PostNotInHaste · 29/03/2019 04:46

Happy Birthday Calloway. As someone said on previous thread, today we see how strongly the People feel about Brexit. I’m twitchynaboutbthe vote tonight there have been so many twists in this sort tale that you end up wondering what will occur between now and the vote.

Peston is worrying me hugely. I suspect how likely TM is to attempt to go for No Deal depends in part on how people react to Non Brexit Day today. Every time I think No Deal might be off the cards it sneaks back in.

Friend is a Mental Health Manager locally and I did ask if seeing Brexit related issues. She said not a few weeks ago but seeing a lot caused by Disability assessments.

QueenMabby · 29/03/2019 05:23

PMK. Happy not Brexit Day peeps and welcome to another episode of The Shit Show.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 05:37

If people end up comparing the 'march' at 4 pm today to Saturday's one please get the figures right! The police estimate for the Revoke/People's Vote march was 1.5 to 2 million.

You can see by comparing footage of the last two matches - it was certainly tangibly bigger than the 1m often quoted.

borntobequiet · 29/03/2019 05:42

Hi, lonely - we’re awake early again! At least hope is not lost yet...

borntobequiet · 29/03/2019 05:44

And yes as I said on a previous thread anyone saying less than 1.5 million telling lies!

Sostenueto · 29/03/2019 05:45

Am here in the twilight zone!
Thanks for thread redWine
What insanity befalls us today?
I feel sorry for historians having to decipher this shit show in the future.
Is there a petition we can sign to make it all go away?
