Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

PV : People's Vote.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 29/03/2019 15:01

I'm going to make a beef rendang and have a glass of wine.

tobee · 29/03/2019 15:01

The big mistake that Cameron and May have made has been treating this as just any other bit of government legislation.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 15:01

Don;'t know why European Commisison is tweeting that. Just trying to look tough I suppose but that;s ot what Tusk asked for.

Just nicked this from another forum and agree totally:

Now we can hold EU elections, which could change the landscape again. We need to all vote for pro EU/remain parties and turn out in full

UKIP had loads of MEPs, who never ever bothered turning up most of the time. Whatever people think Leave/Remain it cannot be healthy for democracy to have MEPs paid huge amounts and not both turning up. Farage attended 1 of 42 fisheries meetings and then moans about what is agreed. Useless, that is not democracy. They aren't fecking Sinn Fein on some kind of abstentionist kick, they are just corrupt, pocket liners

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 15:02

3) a declaration of an emergency and the executive taking the decision unilaterally

I can't see even May taking it this far. Worth bearing in mind if it is possible though. I presume HoC / courts couldn't stop her?

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:02

Even though May didn't say she'd go if the WA failed again, I think her days are numbered now. Her reputation is shot to pieces.

A quick recap of these threads will suggest that pronouncement has been going on every week since the 2017 election. Yet here she is.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 15:02

Try again:

Don't know why European Commission is tweeting that. Just trying to look tough I suppose but that's not what Tusk asked for - he has asked them to grant an extension if we ask for one.

RedToothBrush · 29/03/2019 15:02

Ereboke can be easily dressed up by saying that it will give time for a leadership election, even a general election, a second ref, proper discussions under a leader who would be strengthened by having a House Undivided behind them, etc etc etc.

If they do a second ref quite quickly what do you expct the result to be?

GaspodeWonderCat · 29/03/2019 15:03

Re protestors 'kicking off' on the streets of London. We faced down the black shirts in the 1930s we can do it again in 2019/20/21 ..

I am using 'we' in the same sense as those who claim 'we won the bloody war didn't we'.

Peaceful protest is fine, violence is not. End of!

Their march is pretty tiny, I'm not worried after looking at it on the TV tbh.

So we live to fight another day.

Jux · 29/03/2019 15:04

Revoke, that shoud say. Ereboke is a place in Heaven.

67chevvyimpala · 29/03/2019 15:05

Thank God.

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:05

3) a declaration of an emergency and the executive taking the decision unilaterally

The very, very last backstop (sorry to use such a loaded word Grin) in British law is the conscience of the individual. Ultimately it's why we don't have the death penalty, and why we have to trust good people will not do evil.

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 15:05

So 80 switched between MVI and MVIII

Then 91 switched between MVII and MVIII

She now only needs 30 to switch- she will find a way to go again.

RedToothBrush · 29/03/2019 15:06

Fun Facts:
Jared O'Mara showed up (voted against the deal)
Nandy and Snell didn't rebel (they voted against the deal)
Kate Hoey also didn't rebel (she voted against the deal)

RussellSprout · 29/03/2019 15:06

I want to move to Ereboke

TheABC · 29/03/2019 15:06

On the plus side...the Revoke petition "only" needs 31,000 signatures to hit 6 million It may well do that by the 1st April. Not bad for a grassroots movement.

I am not going to despair yet. I think Monday will be interesting to watch and HoC will not tolerate a Hard Brexit. As for May...who knows?

I also note with interest that TIG has applied to become a political party for the EU elections.

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 15:07

Peaceful protest is fine, violence is not. End of!

Indeed. And I'd like to recommend cross stitch for when anger starts to get too much. You get to stab something 10,000 times and instead of injuries you get a beautiful picture.

RedToothBrush · 29/03/2019 15:08

Dennis Skinner and Ronnie Campbell abstained

State broadcaster says 'thousands' at the demo in Parliament Square. Aerial shots suggest you could still count them individually if you were so inclined Hmm

TheABC · 29/03/2019 15:10

@CordeliaEarheart, I agree! I also like crochet as you continuously strangle the hook...

Apileofballyhoo · 29/03/2019 15:10

That is interesting re TIG, ABC!

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2019 15:11

There’s a special rung in hell for the Labour MPs who vote for a Tory Brexit. Not even Hoey this time.
