Westminstenders: Indicative Crossiants

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2019 18:23

Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

I know upthread , someones mother had been asked about the village hall and May 23rd .
Well - I have just been sent all the paperwork involved with the job I will be doing at the local elections , on 2nd May and in there , a big notice asking for conformation that I could do the same job on 23rd May for possible EP's .

Of course many MPs are, and should be, torn in two. They are not there simply as a mouthpiece for their constituents, they have a duty to use their own judgement too. Any MP who judges remain to be best but is representing a leave area, or vice versa, they absolutely should be torn.

An MP is a representative, not a delegate.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 13:11

CordeliaEarhart · 27/03/2019 13:13

So, Labour, SNP, TIG all supporting a people's vote. Presumably Tories and DUP are against it though.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 13:14

I wonder what the figures are today ...

https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/peoples-vote-data-shows-labour-constituencies-back-peoples-vote-1-5763767

(November). polling has found that a majority of voters in Labour constituencies back a People’s Vote campaign

  • with 80% of voters in Jeremy Corbyn’s own seat in Islington North wanting a final say.
RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 13:14

Paul Waugh @paulwaugh
Labour spokesman says party will be 'encouraging support' for the Norway Plus (Motion D) even tho its "not directly in line with our policy". This is not a 3 line whip but clearly signif. Corbyn keen not to rule out Common Mkt 2.0.

You missed out Jezza Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 13:17

red Is Common Market 2.0 just a permanent CU ?
i.e. making the all-UK backstop in the WA permanent ?

I have read versions of CM 2.0 that claim totally frictionless trade for rUK - but that can only happen with SM membership and hence FOM & full ECJ

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 13:17

Heather Stewart @GuardianHeather
NEW - Downing St spox says the government will whip against the business motion for this afternoon’s indicative votes - If it wins, the whole thing will be off. “Obviously we oppose the principle,” a spox says.

Downing St also makes clear, as PM said, that they still hope to bring forward MV3 this week: “We are working very hard, the PM has had a number of mertings with colleagues, and we will be doing everything we can to bring it to a successful conclusion”.

Really???

So having had a vote for indicative votes the government now want a vote against indicative votes.

bangs head on the table

No Bigchoc I'm not, because those you name are presumably reflecting upon the overall result of a national referendum. Unless I'm mistaken, all those named will also have voted

  1. to have a referendum
  2. to trigger article 50 to begin the process of leaving the EU

Those who voted not to hold a ref in the first place, or not to trigger article 50 are in a different position IMO. Ken Clarke for example, entirely honourable for him to fight Brexit tooth and nail, IMO, just like he said he would.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 13:19

TiP He's in my post, at 78.4% Remain, just above the list

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 13:19

Re the Govt whipping against the business motion - WTAF??

Surely resignations would follow?

downcasteyes · 27/03/2019 13:23

So, someone help me out here.

Is Kyle-Wilson compatible with Customs Union or Common Market 2.0 in time? I.e. if the result of the referendum is a vote for the WA deal, is the idea to negotiate for a CU/CM2.0 in time?

FishesaPlenty · 27/03/2019 13:26

We’ll all get the blame when the ship sinks

I've thought from the start that that was the plan - do everything badly and diffuse the blame as much as possible. Supreme Court, Gina Miller, Parliament, Labour, Remainers, the ECJ, the EU, anyone.

It's almost like playing a game of chess against a child and setting out to let them win without making it obvious you're letting them.

The real question is what her actual final target is. I realise the consensus on here is that she's trying to force no deal but I think the opposite's true. I think she wants to fail heroically while at the same time ensuring that any national anger's directed at everyone. She'll be gone and the flak will be aimed at all Westminster politicians, the Speaker, the EU, the Courts, and everyone else who's been involved - rather than only at her party.

Just my theory.

lonelyplanetmum · 27/03/2019 13:26

Downing St also makes clear, as PM said, that they still hope to bring forward MV3 this week: “We are working very hard, the PM has had a number of mertings with colleagues, and we will be doing everything we can to bring it to a successful conclusion”.

So the whole country is in hock ( or whatever the expression is) to the ERG cabal.

As if any further confirmation were needed.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 13:27

LouiseCollins Yot have seemed angry before at Remain-supporting MPs in Leave seats
So now you don't mind them
you are just angry at Remainers who voted to have a referendum & to invoke A50 ?

Well, I think they are entitled to change their minds when they see that the promised cake deal

  • all the trade benefits etc of the EU, but none of the things we don't like, like FOM & ECJ -
was a fantasy

They probably feel that noone voted for the government to be making emergency plans for food & medicines supply
for Operation Yellowhammer to be calling up troops for emergency duties
for Sterling to plummet - with much more to come if there's nO Deal
for investment to plummet
for jobs at major manufacturers to be inn danger
....
The referendum promised a fantasy; MPs must vote on the cold reality

Tanith · 27/03/2019 13:31

Given your statement on this unfairness, its surprising that you mention Farage and "no Pro-EU MEPs" but omit that QT has had a massive pro-remain bias in panels virtually every broadcast for the last 3 years.

The lists of panelists is here:

LarkDescending · 27/03/2019 13:31

Isn’t TM just focused on getting her deal over the line at any cost so as to claim “success” on her single endeavour - then she will step down and the shit will truly hit the fan (for country and party) on someone else’s watch.
