Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

I'm just hoping that it's decided that whatever deal is agreed on is put to the public vote. At this stage I think that it's the best we're going to get if Labour are going to whip against revoke.

I do despair that they aren't being given a free vote as it makes a mockery of the indicative votes process. Angry

My main concern is avoiding no deal, at a minimum and then going from there.

I agree with PP about feeling scared about this government's actions and attitude. I've never been so concerned about the state of our politics.

Donald Tusk@eucopresident

Appeal to EP: You should be open to a long extension, if the UK wishes to rethink its strategy. 6 million people signed the petition, 1 million marched. They may not feel sufficiently represented by UK Parliament but they must feel represented by you. Because they are Europeans.

Smile
BiglyBadgers · 27/03/2019 08:27

We should all reply and jam up their IT systems.

Hey, leave the IT bods out of this. It's not their fault the government is sending out crappy emails.

Donald Tusk cares about us more than our own PM! 😭

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 08:29

Nigella thatbis a good idea, maybe email LedbyDonkeys and see if they have suggestions as they seem to be pretty effective at the moment.

Aim of my day to get as many people to email my MP getting him to drop hardline stance. Am going to email Organisers of PV March coaches to see if they can help.

The petition has (so far Wink) been signed by 12.45% of the UK electorate.
Little anomaly about the reply noted on twitter.
"The response from the government to the #Article50Petition is odd. It refers to 'this government'.
This government did not make those promises, that was the government before last and one government cannot bind another."

Donald Tusk to the EP:

Our government to us:
...in the 2017 General Election over 80% of those who voted, voted for parties, including the Opposition, who committed in their manifestos to upholding the result of the referendum

I know who I trust more.

Also TEEEEEGAAAAAN! I had to. Tegan and the unicorn-riding black kitty are keeping me sane.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/03/2019 08:43

In the mean time in a totally unrelated thing Sarah Vine has tweet this that has made me totally furious. I nearly posted it in AIBU, but didn't have the stomach for it.

Rees-Mogg says the "experts" say there were only 3-400,000 people on the march. Now he's listening to experts Hmm

prettybird · 27/03/2019 08:46

My email only come through at 3.20 - even though I was one of the earliest (at c15,000) to sign. They must have been sending them out in batches, maybe alphabetically.

For those that are concerned that the petition will be frozen once it is debated: No it won't Smile

If you look at the No Deal petition, which was debated months ago, it is still creeping up (as a result of the publicity for Revoke petition Confused). but it's still less than 600,000 despite having been going for 5.5 months Wink

All petitions run for 6 months unless there is a GE called and parliament suspended, in which case they are frozen and die.

Because you can't bind a new government Hmm whatever the petition response says Angry

woman19 · 27/03/2019 08:46

Tusk has been around the block.

He knows that authoritarian governments and populist movements can inspire the most powerful oppositions.

That would be us.

That would be millions of self educated, hard working pro EU/ pro Liberal Democracy activists who will be a valuable asset to the EU during the coming decades.

@APHClarkson
Or analysts for that matter. An expanding Remain movement fits none of the dominant analytical narratives of 2016 and 2017

‏ Nor did Macron's victory or the Green surge in Germany for that matter

Flowers to red and bercow hoping your wee ones are on the mend, and that you both got some sleep.

HesterThrale · 27/03/2019 08:51

holidayshopping you asked a while back about the shelf life of govt petitions. They're live for 6 months whether they're responded to or debated or not. The 'Leave the EU without a deal' one, with 578,000 signatures, expires in 3 weeks and I presume gets closed.

The indicative votes should be free and unwhipped! I can't see the point of them otherwise. Ludicrous...

QueenOfThorns · 27/03/2019 08:51

Does the speaker get to choose which of the propositions get voted on? If so, will he exclude ones that are fantasies (e.g. Malthouse, unilateral backstop exit), or let them keep their unicorns?

Sostenueto · 27/03/2019 08:51
