Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2019 23:04

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

The EU are really trying to get ^the WA through !
^
Jessica Elgotot@jessicaelgot*t (Guardian)

EU officials tell @DanielBoffeyy^ and ^ @JenniferMerodee^ they believe issuing a summit communique with legal force, known as council conclusions, containing a new date of exit^
could be sufficient for another vote on the deal to be held

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/18/eu-could-hand-may-lifeline-with-formal-offer-of-new-brexit-date?CMP=sharee^btntn_tww^
^
A change of the UK’s departure date in the draft withdrawal agreement
– potentially from 29 March until three months later on 1 July –
might convince the Commons Speaker, John Bercoww^, that the deal before parliament has changed,
sources in Brussels suggested.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 20:22

Still doesn't switch over 75 votes - that's the really hard bit

then keeping those votes to pass the WAIB too

  • and not revoking the WA in a waib amendment !
TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 20:22

My views on Cummings are indeed based on how he influenced Gove in the DfE.
The damage that his evidence free policies and advice
every school will be above average
will take decades to unravel

Cummings cynically took Mercer's money and played games to create a Leave win
without giving a flying fuck what would follow that result
odious, odious man

CordeliaEarhart · 18/03/2019 20:22

BCF, can they make that contingent on the WA passing? Or are the offering an extension in the hope that the WA gets through and being stuck with (at least) another three month delay either way?

1tisILeClerc · 18/03/2019 20:23

HateIsNotGood
The good news for you folks is that when the UK leaves on 29th I'm out of here. (probably).
The rest of the MN content 'does my head in'.

Sostenueto · 18/03/2019 20:23

Oh so true bigchoc !Grin as long as I buy her a bone tomorrow!

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 20:24

We really are in the Endgame now then

Errr not necessarily... It more like the Godfather rather than Apocalypse Now. There may be sequels to follow.

As long as its not Star Wars where you start at episode 4, then go to the prequels before skipping back to the sequels. Or worse still when the nerds decide to watch them in a different order cos it makes more sense.

Yes when you look at rest of MN its so boooring! What name beginning with C can I name my baby? Or 'my best friend hurt me' rubbish!

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 20:27

cordelia That CC would be an attempt to help the WA get passed
It would mean an extension until 1 July
Hopefully enough time to pass the WA & WAIB

I don't think the CC can require the WA is passed on a particular day; it would just change the date

  • anway, May has to choose the best time, which cannot be determined in advance.

If they aren't passed in time, then 1 July is No Deal Brexit Day

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 20:28

Wonder what's going to happen tomorrow?

Well tomorrow is Tuesday and that means I am out the house at least half the day. Get the drama over tomorrow. Please!

Cnut seems a very good recommendation from Westminstenders for two reasons...

This is Groundhog Day

CordeliaEarhart · 18/03/2019 20:30

Endgame is the next Avengers movie, seemingly based on how to bring people back from the dead. There will definitely be more sequels, though likely with some different key characters. I'm proud to be a nerd.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 20:31

This is the 739 th post, so if you leave us a new thread tomorrow am, that would just about fit

Grinchly · 18/03/2019 20:32

I've never watched any of those films RTB.
I'm nearly 53.
I can be very literal-minded but can suspend disbelief reading novels and in theatre ( except shudders.... musicals)
Anything fictional involving a screen generally leaves me cold.
Yes, I am odd Grin

TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 20:33

LeClerc
There are good bits of MN (Money, 5:2, property) but there is indeed a lot of drivel and sharp elbowedness (education in particular)

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 20:33

Daniel Hannan @ danielhannan
As well as being undemocratic in itself, the EU hollows out the internal democracy of its member nations. The politicisation of the Speaker’s chair after 300 years is just the latest example of what I call the EU’s Hideous Strength.

Robert Saunders @redhistorian
This tweet illustrates two big problems with contemporary British politics: (1) a total vacuuming out of knowledge of Britain's constitutional history, so that a decision like Bercow's comes as a shock; (2) a tendency to blame everything, even parliamentary procedure, on the EU.

Thats everything about Brexit in a nutshell isn't it?

CordeliaEarhart · 18/03/2019 20:33

Thanks BCF. I'm pretty amazed that they would be so generous - I wouldn't be! Unless it simply gives their businesses more time to prepare for No Deal.

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 20:42

Anything fictional involving a screen generally leaves me cold.
Yes, I am odd

I am not much of a movie buff. I just have a thing for gangster films and war movies. Particularly offerings of a ridiculous length not the standard 90mins.

Which becomes even stranger, when I tell you I hate watching actual violence, so half the movie I end up watching the floor rather than the screen.

I'm very odd.

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 20:45

Unless it simply gives their businesses more time to prepare for No Deal.

The EU have more or less said they actively WANT a short extension for this reason before. For their own self interest.

The longer extension or the possibility of a second extension is where they aren't so sure.

{Cats are a different matter. They are judgmental and can get.... huffy...}
Only if you rub them up the wrong way.
I started on MN to find out about the menopause originally, then came across the Westminsterenders threads.
I haven't any money and I already 'do' houses but thanks.

1tisILeClerc · 18/03/2019 20:54

{The EU have more or less said they actively WANT a short extension for this reason before. For their own self interest. }

I suppose if customs arrangements aren't quite complete the EU could take the view that as the UK caused all this mess they can have deliveries of food when they get it and if it is getting a bit 'limp' by the time it arrives, tough.

borntobequiet · 18/03/2019 20:54

I enjoy Baby Names, Style and Beauty and a good towel thread. Shoot me now.

1tisILeClerc · 18/03/2019 20:55

That would teach the UK to make fun of bendy bananas.

jasjas1973 · 18/03/2019 20:55

Leaver or remainer, the WA is a terrible bill and it needs to be killed off, if you voted brexit because of sovereignty, then the WA doesn't give you that! it takes it away.

So, either a new WA sought in a long extension, efta or revoke.
