Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2019 23:04

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

The young are light years ahead in using technology.

Hmm

I'd prefer a bit of understanding too ... otherwise who is using whom ?

So when does MN become an AgeID protected site?

The internet is already being patrolled and controlled.

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 14:54

So when does MN become an AgeID protected site?

What %age of it's output is porn ?

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 14:57

Matt Dathan@matt_dathan (Sun)

One Brexit hardliner who spoke to Theresa May on the phone this morning told her: "I won't budge"

and told her to go back to Brussels to request more concessions on the backstop. 🤦🏻‍♀️

The MP said May "accepted" his position and signalled she'll pull this week's vote.

< Pleeeease if you pull the vote don't ask to renegotiate 🥵
Surely even May must now understand the word "NO" even if Boris & co don't >

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 14:58

The MP said May "accepted" his position and signalled she'll pull this week's vote.

I wonder what she told the next MP ?

Redlocks28 · 18/03/2019 15:00

If she doesn’t have MV3, on what grounds will she ask for a delay? We still don’t want the WA, but pleaee can we have an extension whilst we...

NoWordForFluffy · 18/03/2019 15:02

There would be discussions in the house and a series of votes on what the HoC actually DOES want, not what it doesn't, I think. But they're leaving it late to decide this really.

So I'm not sure exactly what reasoning can be given. But if we don't have good reason, why would they give one?

TatianaLarina · 18/03/2019 15:05

Speaker 3.30 - poss on whether holding vote?

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 15:08

If she doesn’t have MV3, on what grounds will she ask for a delay?

On past performance, she'd demand a delay.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 15:14

May could ask for a delay to hold a PV ..... but until the HoC actually vote in support of this,
the EU might not believe this is feasible / serious

Otherwise it's probably just an extension until 22 May - more for PR to show the EU is not refusing the UK -
for May to have a final attempt at the WA and / for everyone to have a final few weeks to ramp up No Deal prep

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 15:16

Do these 2 YouGov polls indicate that the Public want a No Deal vs WA choice ? Confused
No wonder MPs are torn
This is not a country happy to Remain

Britain Elects@britainelects

On whether there "should or should not be a new referendum held on whether Britain should leave the EU or remain a member":
There
There should: 38%
There should not: 52%
.....
On whether "you would support or oppose a public vote on whether Britain should leave without a deal or stay as a member of the EU":

Support: 50%
Oppose: 36%

icannotremember · 18/03/2019 15:16

I wonder what she told the next MP ?

"There will definitely be another ~~meaningless~~ meaningful vote this week and I am very clear that negotiations with the EU are over"

PestyMachtubernahme · 18/03/2019 15:18

Alex Wickham @alexwickham
Whatever Bercow's intervention is about, he hasn't told the government yet

Curiouser and curiouser, it is wrong that most of us suspect that most of them have no clue what is going on.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/03/2019 15:19

Laura Kuenssbergg@bbclaurak*

Don't know on what, but hearing there will be a statement from Speaker at 3.30 < KLAXON >

- could theoretically be a ruling on whether govt can even hold another meaningful vote

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 15:20

...only if the EU were to offer a short extension, the headbanger Brexiteers will take it as proof they were right, and continue to hold out for more "concessions".

From my thinking, the benefits of the EU offering the UK any extension are far outweighed by the risks. Ultimately they have to do the one job they were elected to: protect and promote the EU, not pander to the increasingly deluded wishes of a soon-to-be-ex.

It would be illuminating to recast Brexit as a relationship issue and post in Relationships for some hard headed advice. I really can't see too many vipers that would say "let the bastard/bitch stay for a few weeks longer, while you get your Sky package sorted out ...."

NoWordForFluffy · 18/03/2019 15:21

You would never be asked about agreeing to crash out with no deal, so it's moot asking people about it.

I think people just want it to go away. They're fatigued. Dragging it out is painful in the extreme. So, revoke is the best course, IMO, as no version of leave will see it bog off!

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 15:24

I think people just want it to go away. They're fatigued.

My fellow constituents for one ... as my MP highlighted in a "What I've been up to" missive last week.

Remember the interminability of Brexit was another "project fear" soundbite, apparently. The UK should have been a free player in the world for two years now, by Farages timetable.

lonelyplanetmum · 18/03/2019 15:24

It could be an announcement the govt are pulling MVIII?

TalkinPaece · 18/03/2019 15:26

I suspect that my kids could get round many forms of censorship - they certainly make a mockery of pay tv and firewalls

I keep fixing my DS friends gear - they haven't a clue. Despite all rocking grade-A ICT GCSEs ... but then I can build and program a bit slice processor and understand symbolic logic. They can do something in Dreamweaver which is (apparently) being a web designer.

wheresmymojo · 18/03/2019 15:41

Listening to Bercow now.....reckon he's going to say no MV3

wheresmymojo · 18/03/2019 15:43

His conclusion

If they wish to bring forward a new proposition which is not substantially the same that would be in order but can not resubmit substantially the same proposition that was rejected.

Indicating the test which the Govt must meet that a MV3 can legitimately be held in this Parliamentary session

wheresmymojo · 18/03/2019 15:45

So no MV3 unless the Govt brings something new/different to the table...

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2019 15:47

Theo Usherwood @theousherwood
Speaker John Bercow: What the Government cannot do is resubmit the same or substantially the same motion.

Well there's a problem...
