Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2019 23:04

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

If we hold EP elections:
UKIP is down, but still much higher than in GE polls

Potential total anti-EU (UKIP+CON) = 45%
(May still be a couple of CONs - not deselected - who are pro)

Europe Electss@EuropeElects*

UK, Opinium poll:

European Election

LAB-S&D: 29% (+5)
CON-ECR: 28% (+5)
UKIP-ENF: 17% (-10)

LDEM-ALDE: 11% (+4)
Greens-G/EFA: 6% (-1)
SNP-G/EFA: 4% (+2)
PC-G/EFA: 1%

+/- vs. 2014 election

Who is this Mr STOP BREXIT I hear shouting behind newsreaders on the BBC 10pm news every night?

Peregrina · 17/03/2019 22:19

If that was all the marchers, there looked to be about 25 or 26 of them. Not exactly hundreds, is it? I liked the LbD's 'Where's Nigel? ' advert flashing up.

Icantreachthepretzels · 17/03/2019 22:20

Thanks Talk and Elenade - i'll take a look

NoWordForFluffy · 17/03/2019 22:21

Is he still there, Tiddle? He was shouting during BBC Breakfast on Weds too!

ElenadeClermont · 17/03/2019 22:23

He seems to be there a lot of days.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/03/2019 22:25

He's got some stamina! My voice would be non-existent by now.

It’s probably Steve Bray of Sodem:

Icantreachthepretzels · 17/03/2019 22:30

77 people including photographers, today.

Good show, Nige. Shame you weren't there - you need all the bodies you can get.

Icantreachthepretzels · 17/03/2019 22:35

Everyone quoted in that article sounds like a caricature in a made up newspaper report in a children's book!

“We showed true grit. You softies in the Guardian would’ve delayed it a day but we pushed on, we had hundreds out, it was amazing.”

This is what Richard Tice, one of the founders of leave means leave actually said to the journalist. He sounds like Uncle Vernon!

Sostenueto · 17/03/2019 22:41

Our march is not a long one. Can't say how many remainers would go if it was a long march like Leavers one? Not as many as would go on short one I bet.

Sostenueto · 17/03/2019 22:42

But more than FarageGrin

Cherrypi · 17/03/2019 22:43

Are there any estimates on expected numbers for the March next weekend?

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2019 22:43

When Leave hold rallies too, they just get a few old drunks and a snappy dog

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2019 22:48

However, judging by the polls, most Leavers stay home and fume, but vote - mostly being elderly
So Remain numbers on marches are impressive and a great start, but we mustn't think that the pathetic turnout on Leave marches reflects voting numbers.

We must aim that next time the young vote in the same numbers as the elderly.

Icantreachthepretzels · 17/03/2019 23:03

Can't say how many remainers would go if it was a long march like Leavers one? Not as many as would go on short one I bet.

That's because the long march is a stupid and embarrassing idea. Remainers wouldn't organise one because they actually understand how to organise things. If you want a strong show of numbers then you have to do something that will get a strong show of numbers (rather than pretend you never wanted big numbers in the first place) - which means understanding what will get the most numbers, what fits in around people's lives (protesters with jobs can't go on a two week march) and what is actually feasible.

This march just shows how piss poor leave are at doing any of that. They can't organise, they can't plan and they just aren't very good at reality.

The fact that remainers wouldn't attempt something doomed to fail isn't a sign that we care less, or that leavers care more. In fact - it sums up the whole of brexit, doesn't it?

Even if the #epicprotestmarch #gammonballrun does make it to London, 20 people walking a long way doesn't tell the government that their viewpoint is popular - just that an insignificant amount of people are extremists. And those handful do not need to be listened to, even if they are willing to walk a thousand miles to fall down at brexit's door. Because they are only a handful.
700 000 people in one place sends a much clearer message about strength of feeling - even if they only gather for an afternoon.

Having said all that, I would totally march a 20 mile stretch of the country if Remain went insane and tried to do the same. Though I still imagine it would be better organised; each leg would meet up with the next one - and then they would take over. Buses would be provided to then take the day's marchers back home. And yes - they would get more than 100 people for each leg.

PMK. I’ve missed most of the threads for the last few days because of moving and unpacking. I’m now totally confused by those ‘running’ the country.

frumpety · 18/03/2019 06:11

I would love to go on the march next weekend but I am working, thinking about buying a red toothbrush and sticking it on the dashboard, due to role need to be seen as non political, don't think there are many people out there who would make the connection ? Smile

TheNumberfaker · 18/03/2019 06:34

There's a proEU man walking from Swansea to London to join the march.

SparklySneakers · 18/03/2019 07:28

BBC news that Boris has said there's still time to make changes to the deal Confused And no point voting on the same deal. Why is it that we understand the word no from the EU but he doesn't??
