Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

Brexit: Not too late for real change to PM's deal -Johnson

LonelyTiredandLow · 18/03/2019 07:30

I think Boris wants No Deal and is hoping we will by accident due to time running out. As a pp said it should take 2 days to request an extension, which we haven't drafted yet because we've not had round 3 on WA...so we're not sure of why we want one or how long for.

bellinisurge · 18/03/2019 07:37

While No Deal would be shit for the EU, particularly Ireland, it would be fucking catastrophic for us. And, unlike Ireland, we don't have 26 neighbours happy to help out.

Violetparis · 18/03/2019 07:40

I think Boris is purely playing to his audience in the hope it boosts his leadership chances. Apparently David Davies who voted for the WA last week is now saying he may now vote against it.

NEW: 40 Tory rebel MPs tell Theresa May: we’ll only vote for your Brexit deal if you quit as PM

In one-on-one phone calls with Theresa May today, Tory rebels told the PM in direct terms that the price for them voting for the deal is her publicly committing to stand down so a new leader can take charge of the next Brexit negotiations

In one-on-one phone calls with Theresa May today, Tory rebels told the PM in direct terms that the price for them voting for the deal is her publicly committing to stand down so a new leader can take charge of the next Brexit negotiations

- MPs also told No10 aides and Julian Smith this weekend that May must sign a resignation pact
- It was discussed at a meeting between May and MPs on Friday
- A senior No10 aide told one MP: “She knows this”
- MPs have urged Graham Brady to tell her to go

Switcher MPs who previously opposed the deal but backed it last week say the only way to get the rest to fold is for May to quit. Here are @ZacGoldsmith and @bbradleymp

Former cabinet minister on the plan for a May resignation pact: "There are 40 of us who have said this. They will not vote for the deal if she stays. She would need to be gone by April and say that at the despatch box"

Yes, Boris is playing to the audience who think EU will blink or haven't heard EU has said no more negotiations. Maybe he wants a long extension and thinks that might re-open negotiations (falsely), who knows?

Leave leaders now disputing attendance numbers - here comes the fake news!

Eurostar are advising against all but essential travel for the next three days due to French strikes

Re: next weekend. I've not made a decision yet about going. It really depends on how DH feels about me dumping him with loads of stuff to do at the weekend whilst I disappear.

Resignation pact - thats what happens when you pander to ERG and DUP for nearly 3 years, they turn on you and by then everyone else hates you too. She should be smarter than this.

Peregrina · 18/03/2019 08:04

David Allen Green is back posting talking about the WA.
People posting comments ask how when the first MV went 68:32% against May and the second 61:39% that there can be another vote allowed, but calling for another vote after the Referendum of 52:48% is undemocratic. Good point, I thought. I wonder if any Leavers will come on here to explain how this can be.

Re DD - isn't he the one who gets confused as to which lobby he has to go through? He ought to go into both, just to be on the safe side. Grin

She is mean. She is rude. She is cruel. She is stupid.

Peregrina · 18/03/2019 08:19

I had to laugh at the Tory Leavers whining that if May's WA went through she would take it as a mandate for her to carry on. This is nothing to what Remainers have had to put up with over 3 1/2 years.

Songsofexperience · 18/03/2019 08:20

Funny how the democracy argument is only ever used one way: Zac Goldsmith's constituency voted 72% for remain and yet he's a hardliner. Interestingly as well, he only regained his seat by a very thin margin. Clearly it doesn't bother him though.

SparklySneakers · 18/03/2019 08:20

Ah blackmail and corruption.

PestyMachtubernahme · 18/03/2019 08:29

Black mail and corruption, I don't think we have seen the tip of the iceberg on that one.

Interesting summary of the state of play and thoughts of future plans

Currently it is suggested that under the Northern Ireland backstop if the Assembly restarts they will have veto power over regulations for the UK.

Has consideration been given as to the impact this will have on the UK’s constitutional and devolved settlement, e.g. Scotland?

Letting the eleven DUP MPs (inc Hoey) and Arlene F have such real leverage on the country is rather irresponsible. Thank goodness they seem incapable of communicating effectively with the ERG

prettybird · 18/03/2019 09:01

That article in Spiegel Online truly has the measure of the woman Maybot. Sad

But you can't kill a zombie Shock. They keep on getting up and going again Sad

IrenetheQuaint · 18/03/2019 09:12

The level of uncertainty seems to be ramping up as we approach 29 March, rather than (as I had naively hoped) reducing. Thank heavens we have a whole 11 days to sort everything out Hmm

67chevvyimpala · 18/03/2019 09:13

Morning

SparklySneakers · 18/03/2019 09:17

I'm very grateful of my stockpile as this uncertainty grows. Final shop tomorrow to complete everything I wanted to get.

Mum reports no one she knows is talking about it. All leavers.

GroovieGazelloo · 18/03/2019 09:25

Five mile detour for March to Leave yesterday. Organisers didn’t factor in Tees Transporter Bridge closed on Sunday.

Who needs plans ? Leaving means leaving eh !

QueenOfThorns · 18/03/2019 09:26

SparklySneakers I’ve become so convinced that we won’t be leaving on the 29th (with or without a deal) that I’ve started eating the stockpile! Maybe I should have a rethink and start replenishing it Sad

MyNameIsArthur · 18/03/2019 09:26

PMK

SparklySneakers · 18/03/2019 09:33

I've eaten some treats but replenished.

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 09:34

The real question would be if no deal would finish May ? If (as I suspect) she judges it wouldn't then why would she offer her resignation to save her deal ? Anyone who makes such an offer has indicated their negotiating weakness and can be ignored.

I don't think we will see any binding statement from TM about resigning.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/03/2019 09:35

I’ve become so convinced that we won’t be leaving on the 29th

Ive got a bad bad feeling that the WA is going to pass if she agrees to stand down, if it does I'm guessing that will be the end of the PV, really stressed about it this week urgh
