Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

Laura Kuenssberg@bbclaurak
Juncker letter says that Varadkar willing to accept the 'legal instrument' to clarify the backstop in order to get a deal done - Juncker goes on to say, 'it is this deal or brexit may not happen at all'

OP posts:

Tony Connelly @tconnellyrte
Breaking: @JunckerEU we have agreed on a joint legally binding instrument, giving meaningful verifications and legal guarantees on the backstop

Except this is not what the Irish are saying!

"There will be no further interpretation of the interpretations": Juncker

Gosh. Juncker now warning British MPs that Brexit may not happen if they don't vote for the deal tomorrow [he doesn't want it to happen]

Stewart MacLean @ stewartmaclean
Ken Clarke on #Newsnight - Tonight is hairsplitting nonsense. If it wins over the headbangers in the ERG, that’s fine. If it fails, we can’t carry on with this farce. We should extend to the end of 2021.

Going well..

Just wanted to say that I've never felt patronised by BCF (even though on occasion but not often we have disagreed Wink).

I do have conflicted views on the WA - but not on the EU's need to protect its own 4 pillars and for it not to give in to the UK's over-optimistic belief in everlasting cake with icing and cherries on top Hmm

Part of me also thinks that the UK needs to go through the pain of a No Deal because that is the only way that it is going to deal with its hubris and over-inflated sense of importance and delusional belief in the continued power existence of the British Empire. But I suppress that part of me because that is not fair on the 48% that didn't vote for it (and given demographic changes since 2016, now the majority) - and even those that did, who did so on the basis of lies funded by Dark Money Sad

Even though it might help achieve Scottish Independence quicker.

I don't want the poorest and most vulnerable or the GFA and those in NI to be collateral damage Sad

The rest of the EU want a decision, as soon as possible because there is a lot of other more important stuff to be discussed. With the UK having no clue where the hell it wants to go, it would be damaging if it stays in the EU until it got to a point where it is overwhelmingly pro EU.
For whatever reasons (many have been discussed here) the UK has not started resolving foreign influence, dark money etc that has tainted the original referendum, and is continuing now. A PV or other referendum now would be similarly tainted so the UK needs to learn to stand on it's own two feet and show it is big and brave, or fail. It is unfair and dangerous to drag the EU into the processes that need to happen.
The UK has got itself into this mess and only the UK can get itself out again, but it is going to take a long time, time that the EU haven't really got.

Yep, have a big 'BOLLOCKS to Brexit' sticker for when we drive to France this Summer. Only for use past Calais of course...

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/03/2019 22:53

Well - I'm going to bed to the sound of Juncker saying 'brexit may not happen'.
There's enough shit flying around and tomorrow will be awful. He might not have meant that in a happy way - but as threats go it makes me happy. And i'll leave tonight on that note.

Sostenueto · 11/03/2019 22:53

European council will only say yes to new agreements after WA has been passed. This is very very important for MPs to bear in mind before they vote for WA. If European council fail to pass new agreement then we are up the river without a paddle because WA will have been passed without instruments having passed by European council. They don't meet till 21 st anyway. This is the trap.

Songsofexperience · 11/03/2019 22:53

Sorry, I'm a coward...

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 22:53

Sam Coates Times @samcoatestimes
Juncker’s sting in the tail: UK must take part in EU elections if UK hasn’t left by May 23 - ie v short extension

And this is THE really important thing tonight. Its the terms of a possible extension.

Everything else tonight is just theatre.

May doesn't want a No Deal, but she'd let it happen rather than split her party.

I think it will split her party sooner or later anyway. I wish she'd have the guts to tell the ERG to get lost.

Littlespaces · 11/03/2019 22:55

hubris and over-inflated sense of importance and delusional belief in the continued power existence of the British Empire.

I want to make it clear that this is mainly middle aged to elderly people, so if you come across kids travelling Europe please go easy on them.

HazardGhost · 11/03/2019 22:57

Wine here's to the Brexit may not happen threats...

Littlespaces · 11/03/2019 22:58

Wine Wine

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 22:58

Well I'm off to bed.

Seems pretty obvious to me that this has gone down like a led balloon in Westminster and there's next to no chance of the WA passing.

I just don't see any other outcome.

Red so extension reliant on WA/Backstop?
So if it's voted against tomorrow we don't get to extend.

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 23:01

Oh btw.

If we extend to the 23rd May, the last weekend we are in the EU is Eurovision weekend.

I do worry about kids and how it will impact on their experience of Europe. DS is planning to travel (on very low budget) this summer around Europe with friends from uni, all Brits. Assuming all ok travel wise, I hope they will have a positive experience. DS speaks French and German but with an accent so whilst he could communicate, he may still get picked on by drunks looking for trouble... I sincerely hope not...

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 23:02

^Red so extension reliant on WA/Backstop?
So if it's voted against tomorrow we don't get to extend.^

Don't think so. I don't think it's dependent on WA.

Sostenueto · 11/03/2019 23:04

How can an ' instrument' ( basically legalising Barnier's and Junkers letters of assurance on backstop back in January) be of equal value as the WA as if it is part of a treaty? The WA has not been opened, the backstop has not been removed or amended via reopening WA so any ' instrument' cannot carry an equal weight to the WA which is a treaty?Confused

LonelyandTiredandLow · 11/03/2019 23:05

I thought that was why he's mentioned it now - it was why they moved on the wording? I've maybe mis-read the situ - I thought it was EU saying OK we will change wording but only if you agree the extension has to be short or you must vote.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2019 23:05

xebob So far at least, a total lack of blame or criticism for individuals in Germany
The EU flag on my bike has been admired and emulated at the gym.

Mind you, I never visit the former East - I suspect an AfD stronghold might not be as friendly to Brits, regardless of Farage's election help for them.

Misti, Leclerc ?

I'm far more concerned about the 3 million E27 expats in the UK Sad
They have reported hostility already

The effects of Brexit have only begun and will be far worse in the UK than most of the EU
