Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

Channel 4 Dispatches 8pm tonight

“The amount I receive is not for public disclosure.”

Dispatches reveals that Brexiteer and Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg may have earned at least £7 million since the 2016 EU referendum, from an investment firm he partly owns - which has seen its profits increase since the vote.

67chevvyimpala · 11/03/2019 19:56

Bastard

Songsofexperience · 11/03/2019 19:56

What's also interesting is to see that the £ has gone up against the € today (almost £1 for €1.17 when we were really low at 1.10 in December). I think markets don't believe in no deal.

greenelephantscarf · 11/03/2019 20:04

markets didn't believe in a leave vote either...

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2019 20:08

Bruno Waterfieldd@BrunoBrussels*

If, IF, it all goes well, then there is the vote tomorrow... followed by #EUCOO^ next week.

If the vote doesn't go well then most on the EU side expect a serious political crisis in UK

< as do most of us on the Westministenders side >

PestyMachtubernahme · 11/03/2019 20:10

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has delayed flying to Washington for the St Patrick’s Day festivities amid expectations of major developments in the Brexit negotiations. www.independent.ie/business/brexit/taoiseach-delays-flying-to-washington-for-st-patricks-day-festivities-amid-expectations-of-major-developments-in-brexit-negotiations-37900390.html

Something is afoot.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2019 20:13

red EP elections must be legislated for by 1st May ?
I knew there had to be notice, but not how much.
That sounds the bare minimum.

I've read elsewhere though that the existing EU legislation for EP elections is still on the books, so we don't actually need a vote, just that the electoral administration has to be told to get into gear.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/03/2019 20:13

The UK needs to pass legislation through the HoC to enable EU elections by around the 1st May.

That's actually longer than I thought we would have. I was worried that if someone didn't tag the amendment on immediately then that would be that.

Except ... does the HoC take Easter holidays?

If a short extension is forthcoming then I think it is more important than ever to get good showing at the march on the 23rd.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2019 20:15

pesty Reports in Irish Times were that Varadkar delayed his flight merely to brief the Cabinet thoroughly about what happened over the weekend
There wasn't sufficient time during the cabinet meeting this morning

TatianaLarina · 11/03/2019 20:16

Can there please not be some kind of agreement.

We just need to crack on with voting down the WA and getting an extension.

If the EU offers some kind of deal that could be passed by Parliament, we will have to work our arses off to get a PV to vote it down.

HazardGhost · 11/03/2019 20:16

However, the development has been enough to cause Mr Varadkar to rearrange his trip to Washington, where he will meet Donald Trump later this week.

Is Leo hoping for more brexit excuses so he doesn't have to meet Trump Wink

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 20:20

Ian Dunt referred to a rough date of 1st May in his cliff edge piece. He meant the least time it was possible but it was a 1st May ish.

^All this politicking so that Attorney-General can "change" the "legal advice" is worryingly reminiscent of the cynical legalistic games played in run up to Iraq war.

Another barking mad adventure where those who knew better nodded along with distorted politicised "legal advice".^

From Iraq to Brexit, beware of grand political projects which are pushed through on the back of the "legal advice" of the Attorney-General.

Such grand political projects should not ever rest on such politicised legal advice.

Rowena Kay @ rowena_kay
It is so barkingly back to front. The aim has become changing his advice. Not the change in legal advice being a by product. He's mutated from the AG into the client and the lawyer. As commented by @Sime0nStylites

Faisal Islam@faisalislam
As I just said on news, EU27 source confirms plan: “There will be a unilateral statement from UK side on the backstop that May thinks will help Cox change his mind”...

So PM appears to be negotiating the right to have a British interpretation without Brussels/Dublin objecting /1

The Columnist @sime0nstylites
‘thinks’!!!!!!!!!!!

Expect? We already have a serious political crisis. IMO anyway.

Littlespaces · 11/03/2019 20:21

It is carnage.

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2019 20:21

Except ... does the HoC take Easter holidays?

Yes it does. Though I've already seen talk of the recess being cancelled. Which I'm sure will go down even more badly than it did in Feb.

Trying to have faith in DAG that it’s just ‘legal sleight of hand’ and won’t change anything.

But I’m feeling uncharacteristically jittery and superstitious tonight.

Littlespaces · 11/03/2019 20:23

@bbclaurak Laura Kuenssberg

"This may mean nothing at all but May, Juncker, Barnier, Tim Barrow looked ABSOLUTELY delighted arriving tonight in Strasbourg"

Sad
GeistohneGrenzen · 11/03/2019 20:25

Maybe she's revoked and is off to live with the penguins in Patagonia in the morning Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 11/03/2019 20:27

God, that would be epic!

BigChocFrenzy · 11/03/2019 20:27

Tatiana The EU want an agreement,
specifically this WA, since it's the only one we have, with17 days to go

EU opinion the last few weeks has moved sharply away from an extension
unless they see an agreement coming from it

They just want it over
Delay hurts their businesses, many of whom - in several countries - are asking politicians to oppose an extension.
Even Varadkar said that an extension must have a purpose

After the WA is voted down
highly likely that any amendment on PV will also be voted down

Littlespaces · 11/03/2019 20:29

Poor penguins.

Just watched it myself. They didn't look that delighted to me.

Emily m @ maitlis
Government now offering up leading cabinet minister live tonight #Newsnight . Sign things are going well perhaps ?

This is interesting. Also will be interesting to see who it is.

Steve Barclay is in Strasbourg with May. Liddington is doing the HoC briefing. So who would she trust to send on Newsnight. Especially if it goes tits up still.
