Vote 12th March: Meaningful Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement

Vote 13th March: If WA fails, vote on No Deal

Vote 14th March: If WA fails, vote on A50 extension

Not much more to add at this stage that's not repeating what's been said before.

Could Theresa May ignore it ?

I think TM can ignore anything that she wants to ignore. She is a despot who has lost her grip on reality. There may come a time when there were repercussions for her actions - but not before brexit has already happened, which is too late for the ordinary people.

I think the idea of Kyle amendment is that labour abstain on the W.A - letting it pass - in exchange for a P.V... I for one do not trust T.M to keep her end of the bargain. But it appears to be the best we've got at the moment.

DGRossetti · 10/03/2019 14:36

When I was at school, my teachers told us that we would live in a paperless world of work

When the first peripheral people bought to go with a computer was a printer, I knew that was a crock. It was a crock in 1980 and it's a crock now. You can only apply for PIP with a physical paper form. There is no electronic version and accessibility be fucked.

1tisILeClerc · 10/03/2019 14:56

France, which has a love affair with paperwork has introduced online tax submissions (OK the UK has them too) but to get 'into' the system you need a French mobile number.
Being a bit 'old school' in some ways I am not comfortable with wildly pressing (I hope) the right on screen buttons to do things that could accidentally lose your account.
You only have to see the mis typing errors on MN to see why that might be an issue. Adding to this is small text size (on a mobile) and they are so slippery to hold.

Interserve - 45,000 employees and a US majority stakeholder - look set to go under...

HesterThrale · 10/03/2019 15:04

pretzels yes she is acting like a despot. Both party leaders are intransigent and useless. She may seem immovable but she could be gone soon.
And whether we Leave or not, people still won’t be happy.

The U.K. is ripe for a charismatic and unexpected new politician to come sweeping in Macron-style and ‘rescue us’ from the mess we’re in. Probably making impossible promises. People will believe in unicorns when they’re desperate.

Changes are a-coming.

Littlespaces · 10/03/2019 15:04

It is interesting & a bit scary to watch how a despot is created.

May is moving through the earlier stages in the process. Not yet full blown dictator but bending the rules & blocking consultation. What next?

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/03/2019 15:14

I've seen the threats to May but - after their failed coup in December (was it?) they can't actually touch her. And she will never step down - she is too dogged and blinkered for that. I'm sure she will be here up until brexit happens, no matter who threatens her with what - so its her despotic contempt of parliament that we need to worry about for now re keeping promises and following through on amendments.
As to what comes next ... I shudder to think.

Interesting that Interserve are copping out of dealing with Brexit Supply chain issues by possibly going bust Grin

No one has put a bet on as to whether TM actually presents the WA on Tuesday or not. Can you imagine Parliament if she does not? Will they all flounce out? Grin

DGRossetti · 10/03/2019 15:27

No one has put a bet on as to whether TM actually presents the WA on Tuesday or not.

There are numerous ways to no deal, which is where my bet is ...

Sostenueto · 10/03/2019 15:29

Looking that way DGR

LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 15:33

I've worked for many "paperless offices" - seemed to be a popular phrase around 10-15 years ago at least. In fact when I worked for a Govt Dept on my gap year I revolutionised my dept by scanning all Bills and invoices to prove receipt/payment. On arrival the dept hadn't been paying mobile contracts/newspaper invoices/office supplies etc and when I left we were all up to date and I only had 2 A4 lever arch folders for a busy 45 people dept that had frequent travel commitments.2 months after I left a local paper did an expose on gvt spending including all departments that hadn't paid and small businesses had gone bust. My old dept was the ONLY dept not on the list from our building, much to my bosses delight. I have a glowing reference from there but sadly my boss has now retired. I really should have taken his offer of a visa then!

I've never worked anywhere that efficient since (not meaning to blow my own trumpet but as EA they really did let me take control, unlike offices here).

DGRossetti · 10/03/2019 15:40

A real despot would seek to make parliament an irrelevance - following a narrative that it's actually resisting the will of the people rather than enacting it. Against a background of that, why would May waste time with meaningless votes in the HoC ? I wouldn't.

Who knows ? Maybe all this needless frenzy about next weeks votes is a mere distraction for the chattering classes ? The stage has already been set for Theresa May to simply ignore all votes of parliament if they don't actually deliver the will of the people. And if she does, the rails will have been greased by the various degradations the British constitution has seen - under all parties - since (say) Blairs Iraq adventure.

LonelyandTiredandLow
Did you work for the ministry of administrative affairs?

Alternatively, were you the chief assistant to the assistant chief?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 10/03/2019 15:50

Grin The full title was strangely pompous but I was an Executive Assistant. My boss literally had a handlebar moustache and a red telephone Shock. Many funny stories from there but not appropriate for internet.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 10/03/2019 16:07

I had a boss (in a very large and allegedly forward-looking company) who used to forward me all the emails he received with the instruction “please print and file”.

I never worked out if this was a mad power trip over me (the female grad trainee) or whether he really couldn’t do it himself.

67chevvyimpala · 10/03/2019 16:10

I had a boss who would forward me e mails, documents, letters etc to print and then put in his pigeon hole....

....all whilst sat 20cms from his own much bigger, much better, laser printer....

DGRossetti · 10/03/2019 16:16

I have an elder relative on FB (in his mid 70s) who I don't think quite gets it ...

Every night he'll post "Good night", and every morning "good morning" (in 3 languages) ...

Very niche, but did anyone catch "Secret World" on R4 a few years back where they had a scene of Alan Bennet painstakingly replying to every spam email he got after going online Grin ?

DGRossetti · 10/03/2019 16:17

I had a boss who would dial into the bulletin board* (I sat next to the PC) rather than walk 10 ft across the office to check for any messages.

*Ask your parents.

prettybird · 10/03/2019 16:29

Well, if May had gone to Brussels today, she'd have been all on her lonesome as Barnier, Varadkar and Coveney are all having a "meeting" Wink in Dublin Grin

TheElementsSong · 10/03/2019 16:31

To cheer ourselves up, we’ve been planting up some flowers by the front door. DH gave FiL a lift to the garden centre to buy gardening supplies, and as a thank-you FiL paid for the plants DH chose. So Leaver FiL inadvertently paid for our floral tribute to the EU Grin

I’m about to post this same photo on FB so FiL will see it 😈

Ah the hours (about 5 of them) trying to download 1 floppy disk worth (1.4 Meg) of data from England to Bangkok from the works BBS.
