...Children! Lollipops! Lollipops if you vote for my deal!

OP posts:

Coppersulphate , you can ignore me all you like but you need to wake up to the fact that the border is the only thing between us and a manageable Brexit. And the only way to get a manageable Brexit at this stage is to support WA. If you and other Leavers don't get behind it, it is either No Deal ( which is unpatriotic economic suicide) or an even softer Brexit after a lengthy delay. Or no Brexit at all. It is on you and all the other Leavers.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 20:02

I'm a Remain voter who is prepared to accept Leave via WA. If you ignore people like me, the Leave project is screwed.

Sanguineclamp · 07/03/2019 20:12

The flip side Copper is that the ECJ is an important tool to ensure that our EU rights are respected in all other member states so on balance it has been hugely valuable to the UK and to UK industry.

jasjas1973 · 07/03/2019 20:15

Jeez Belli don't encourage Copper.... we could see the start of a very soft brexit or even no brexit at all by the end of next week.

Don't want Leavers to start engaging brain and solve the backstop issue lol!

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 20:18

I must say @jasjas1973 . I am at the "Fuck 'em" stage. I have said so many times I am prepared to accept a Brexit that takes proper account of the border. WA looking like the only option. This is what Leavers wanted. I thought. All I get is childish tantrums and unicorn bollocks.

jasjas1973 · 07/03/2019 20:22

Yep, it's all feelings or our fault for not getting behind Brexit, as a leave work colleague said to me yesterday, he went on to say that the NI border was an EU issue and up to them to find a solution... there is no arguing with stupid

Coppersulphate · 07/03/2019 20:41

I've been arguing with "stupid" on here all evening😂😂😂

Coppersulphate · 07/03/2019 20:44

And I an happy to support the WA and wrote and told my MP so some weeks ago. I feel it is a reasonable compromise because nobody is going to get exactly what they want.
I have a meeting with my MP next week before the vote and will again express my support for WA.
But whether they will listen is another matter, they are worse than you lot.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 20:58

But @Coppersulphate , if you and I both support WA, why the petulance?

jasjas1973 · 07/03/2019 21:01

Put forward a coherent argument then...... you ve ignored the points raised on the ECHR having a greater effect on the UK than the ECJ...

WA is not a compromise whatsoever, there is zero in it for Remainers and its a blind brexit and ceeds sovereignty greater than the EU ever did.

A real compromise would be an EFTA style agreement, we leave the EU, wouldn't need to abide by ECJ rulings, pay in far less, have a break of sorts on FOM and be able to do FTA's though yet again, NI rears its ugly head on that one!!! oh out of CAP and CFP too.

for Remainers we would keep a close relationship with EU, some FOM, stay in most EU institutions, keep all EU FTA.

1tisILeClerc · 07/03/2019 21:30

Once the WA is signed up to negotiations could take the UK hard out, or even revoke/remain IF negotiations are conducted in a clear and purposeful manner.
The biggest hurdle is that for many months or even a year or more the UK government will be fighting with itself so no chance of a meaningful discussion. There is also the issue of the ERG wreckers who are all out to damage the EU. They would need containing.

Coppersulphate · 07/03/2019 22:04

Bellini, I have shown no petulance. I have been extremely civil and reasonable in the face of deliberate misunderstanding my posts, the making ridiculous extrapolations from them, and accusing me of saying things that I have never said.
I have been clear all along and someone accuses me of wanting to pull out of NATO and wanting the Empire back. Ridiculous and an attempt at provocation.

Coppersulphate · 07/03/2019 22:06

For goodness sake, Jasjas, I have said I have no problem with the ECHR. I object to the ECJ and have said over and over why that is. If you don't get it then tough.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 22:46

@Coppersulphate why do you think it is necessary to keep harping on about why Leave is such a good idea. We are down to the wire and, weirdly, it seems that you and I have come to the same conclusion that WA is acceptable. Instead of trotting out pointless pre-referendum arguments which convince no one and just Remain voters off even more , why not focus on the only way Brexit is going to be delivered, and that is via WA. It's either that or something like it that protects GFA.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 22:58

Here's a practical thing Leavers can do on here. Stop dicking about trying to make people love Brexit and just say you accept WA is the surest way to get it. WA is imperfect but it does the job and we can all have a clearer picture of how we stand. Maybe just maybe we can start rebuilding after this terrible corrosive shit.

jasjas1973 · 08/03/2019 08:19

Copper - you say you don't like the ECJ because it can over turn UK courts and laws (btw it doesn't really its about EU law which we've agreed to abide by) yet are happy with the ECHR which does overturn uk court decisions and uk laws and has a wider remit....

I'm surprised you cannot see the illogicality in that.

BorisBogtrotter · 08/03/2019 08:25

Nobody has accused you of wanting to pull out of NATO, they have noted that your points regarding sovereignty are also true of other international organisations we are members of. So if you believe in these reasons for leaving the EU, you need to have them for other organisations too.

Otherwise its shows an argument of convenience not conviction.

Coppersulphate · 08/03/2019 08:30

Who said anything about sovereignty?
And I have never tried to make any one like leave.
I was asked further up the thread why I voted leave. I have told you why.

BorisBogtrotter · 08/03/2019 09:39

Are you happy for ISDS courts to over rule the British Judiciary?

Are you happy for WTO courts to do the same?

How about the ECHR?

1tisILeClerc · 08/03/2019 09:54

Coppersulphate
Like so many have no damn clue about what they WANT rather than what they don't want.
They will just leave it to others to actually DO anything, and then will spend forever complaining it is still not what they want.
Pathetic.

jasjas1973 · 08/03/2019 09:55

Copper wrote Bellini, I do not intend to lobby anybody And I am under no obligation to take any notice of you

Less than an hour later.... I have a meeting with my MP next week before the vote and will again express my support for WA

Amazing you arranged to meet your MP so quickly, so fair play for having an open mind, willing to change.

DeDoRonRon · 08/03/2019 10:37

lol at objections to the ECJ...would love to hear leavers' views on why investor-state arbitration is preferable!

Coppersulphate · 08/03/2019 11:02

Jasjas I arranged to meet with my MP some time ago. The meeting is not about Brexit but other matters and I have been invited to the meeting.
However, I will take the opportunity to discuss the WA.

Coppersulphate · 08/03/2019 11:05

1tis, I know exactly what I want. I want a no deal. However, I am prepared to compromise and go for WA

BorisBogtrotter · 08/03/2019 11:06

Give 3 benefits of no deal.
