This thread is for those prepping for brexit and building up their family stores for the possibility of no deal and food shortages and/or delays.
Suggestions welcome on what to stash.

Just been in my local market and the cheesemonger had a sign up saying that they could heat seal any cheese which would give it a 6 month shelf life.

bellinisurge · 05/03/2019 11:37

👍

SparklySneakers · 05/03/2019 11:43

That's fab!

I've replenished the kitkats and bought Club biscuits too along with fig rolls.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2019 11:58

If only we had a cheesemonger That's good to know though.

tentative3 · 05/03/2019 12:13

I love fig rolls.

BadKitten we have a fancy pants cheese place on the high street and then the place in the market is a proper old market stall, sells jam and eggs and stuff too. Might be somewhere in a nearby town that does similar?

I was in a greengrocers who had made big signs for each item of fruit and veggies to indicate where they came from. He said it was a talking point with his customers as they were realising how much came from the EU and could end up being in short supply.

BlackeyedGruesome · 05/03/2019 13:05

more loo roll. increasing stores slowly. 72rolls.

doing steady increase in stores now (a couple of things here and there) and keeping the everyday cupboard stocked up.

got children's vitamins as well. Aldi have been out of stock for ages.

I had no intention of shopping today but realised I had promised ds oranges for his pancakes.

lets hope we can get them next year or we will being back to dad's war-time vinegar and sugar.

BlackeyedGruesome · 05/03/2019 13:07

the greengrocer may be highlighting the issue in preparation for explaining why he will not be able to get x yand z after march, or june, or whenever

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2019 13:43

Sensible grocer there!

There might be tentative. I'll have to have a look. I'm conscious that there aren't many Saturdays left. In fact, cos I'm busy this Saturday and we've got the www.peoples-vote.uk/march on the 23rd Wink I've only got one Saturday left before the current Brexit date.

oh.

PrawnOfCreation · 05/03/2019 13:45

45 more toilet rolls arrived today. Groupon deal for £11.

SparklySneakers · 05/03/2019 13:50

I bought some of Waitrose own brand quilted but I prefer Andrex quilted. I have standards when it comes to loo roll and my bottom likes the best Grin

I’m giving a southern red rice and sausage recipe a go with Mattesons smoked sausage to see if it can go on out brexit cupboard list

AwdBovril · 05/03/2019 18:21

Foodologistgirl - the bacon ham stuff - is that the bacon grill in the rectangular tin? I quite like that Morrisons do label their fresh produce with the country of origin. We have a farm shop in town which does this too.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/03/2019 19:57

I'm buying loo roll from Aldi as it's just over £3 for 16 rolls. I don't like quilted (or, rather, our loo can't cope with it!) so bog - ha ha! - standard loo rolls is fine.

I've ordered a few tins of ham in my shopping tomorrow, as well as some jars of meat paste. Plus more tuna, my wheat biscuits for breakfast and some lazy garlic. I've also got more potato waffles, some butter and UHT milk. We'll use the latter in custard if it's not needed. I'd rather go without tea than have UHT really!

Oh, and more chunky Kit Kats they won't last

RhubarbCrumbled · 05/03/2019 20:21

.

SparklySneakers · 05/03/2019 20:34

I'm going to do a stock take tomorrow and see where I'm up to. Pretty sure I've got everything bar batteries and sun cream though. Freezer is running low so due a stock up.

I think the votes next week will make people realise how close we are and that nothing is definite and therefore I expect shopping habits to change and we'll see people starting to worry and buy extra.

Even if they vote to exclude no deal and to ask for an extension, until an extension is granted then we still need to prepare for no deal.

I imagine the last week of March will see some craziness in the shops so for me I want everything sorted by next week. After that, unless all hell breaks loose I'll continue to add a few extra things as am in that habit now.

Worrying times.

How many days worth of food are you all stocking?

I have full cupboards and a stash too - probably about 3 weeks worth of food.

I can't bring myself to buy tinned veg though.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/03/2019 20:56

I reckon I must have a month at least. More than a month in some things.

DH mentioned tinned veg, but we have loads of frozen. I think I'll do without tins!

Bluelonerose · 05/03/2019 21:00

I don't know what's going on with loo roll in my house atm. Either kids have seen the stash thought to themselves mums got loads let's hurl 4 rolls worth down the loo after a shit.

Or I'm that good at stockpiling I've lost loads of loo roll Grin

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 01:28

Our Aldi has stopped doing the 16rolls, only 9. Iris a lot harder to shop discreetly if you buy two at a time.

9 loo rolls today when I popped in for oranges.

Forgetting how close it is. Eek. Best get organised and get those last bits.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 01:29

I prefer Asda shades but ds throws a lot of it down the loo so go cheaper.

NoWordForFluffy · 06/03/2019 05:45

I bought 2 last time! I didn't see anybody looking at me oddly though. Grin

I'm going again next week, so will see!

Moorfields · 06/03/2019 06:19

I bought £100 worth of groceries from Tesco after reading this thread last night. I need to do a stock take before ordering anything else. I bought 100 loo rolls last month so I think these will be o.k. for now.

FoodologistGirl · 06/03/2019 09:30

Awdbovril
Yes the Morrison’s square tins. They also have a new range of more expensive tinned meat. Like pull pork etc. Which is quite nice but at £2.50 a tin we’ll put it away for emergencies and live on a mostly vegetarian diet anyway. Lots of frozen veg, tinned tomatoes, dried pulses and hopefully garden veg. Cheese and butter lasts sealed for months in the fridge so should be ok.
