Next stop: 27th Feb.

Where we will apparently have Cooper-Boles II which apparently will pass but still assumes that
a) the EU will grant us an extension despite our fuckwittery
b) that it will prevent accidental no deal, which it doesn't
c) glosses over the minor point that the only way to 100% prevent no deal is to say you'll revoke if everything else fails

Meanwhile in reality we leave in law on 29th March, despite the rest of the law having zero chance of being ready in time. Withdrawal Agreement and No Deal alike.

All that is actually happening is the Tories and Labour fighting amongst themselves. Corbyn is still pretending that Brexit isn't really that important and hoping it will just go away. May is still trying to compromise with the ERG - whom if you paying attention 18 months ago were obviously were never going to compromise on anything - cos they are fuckwitted swivel eyed loons.

Meanwhile the entire country has no other alternative but to assume no deal and act accordingly.

A deal on the 21st March (as is the planned date of the Meaningful Vote) is simply too late for planners. For them no deal has already happened even if it does never come to pass.

The strategy of brinkmanship has destroyed us. We just don't know it yet.

A Split in the Tory and Labour parties may well make matters even worse going forward with further political polarisation.

Where next for Brexit?

Who knows and does it even matter now? The damage is irreversible and will take at least a generation to heal wounds. Economically it may never be recoverable.

FUKD.

I'll be on the march. Anything else can be rearranged.

EthelFechan · 16/02/2019 22:26

jasjas - I'm with you. The EU wants us to stay and I'm not giving up my hopes that we will remain.

TalkinPeece · 16/02/2019 22:27

there is no need to be condescending is there?
But JasJas
you keep thinking that JC or TM will magically pull a negotiating unicorn out of the rainbow hat
which will not happen

all of the multiple HoC votes are just pissing against the wall

the only two votes that would make a difference are
(a)Revoking A50 and making TM do it
(b) approving the WA and then deciding whether BINO or recession

Maybe it needs it's own thread?

TalkinPeece · 16/02/2019 22:28

ethel
The EU wants us to stay and I'm not giving up my hopes that we will remain.
But they will not break the EU to make it happen.
They set out their stall on 24th June 2016 and it has not changed since.
The UK has to blink or crash out.
Simple

KennDodd · 16/02/2019 22:29

Looks like 83 people are going so far Grin

EthelFechan · 16/02/2019 22:32

The UK has to blink or crash out

We'll blink!

And thank you, prettybird, for looking through French media to check on the Mail's Macron story.

Icantreachthepretzels · 16/02/2019 22:40

I'll be going to the march - though it's a shame it won't be earlier.

Yes - moderate MPs are facing deselection BUT either there will be a GE that shuts down parliament before brexit - and so WA is as moot as anything else. OR it will happen after brexit. There doesn't have to be a GE until 2022... this will all be a long time ago by then.

We know mps are talking about resigning as ministers and plenty of mps have been rebelling without fear of the consequences. Yes - we'll believe the resignations wen we see them. Yes we'll believe a meaningful rebellion when it happens. But these things are MORE LIKELY to happen if they are receiving emails and letters of support.

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2019 22:41

Yes Ethel, we will back down, we have too - of course i'm not 100% certain of this but will petition MPs etc to try make it happen,

One thing is certain, i will not just roll over and accept Mays damaging deal,

KennDodd · 16/02/2019 22:42

What will the UK blinking look like though? WA, withdraw A50?

I think we'll crash out. So many Tories want this and are pushing for it (because they haven't a clue what it means).

EthelFechan · 16/02/2019 22:48

TMay is looking to.me like a woman on the edge.

DangermousesSidekick · 16/02/2019 23:37

The other place you might expect to notice comments about the EU softening approaches to the backstop is Ireland. So far there doesn't seem to be anything on the main Irish news sources.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2019 01:22

"isn't a GE one of the reasons that the EU said they'd consider for granting an extension?"

Yes, but my point is that if May decides her WA can't go through, but wishes to force No Deal through, then
she won't ask for an extension to hold a GE

because the purpose of holding a GE would be to dissolve Parliament until No Deal Brexit has actually happened

If she announces a GE any time from 27 Feb - only 10 days away - then Parliament is dissolved for 25 working days, which takes us until a possible GE date of Thursday 3 April, i.e. after Brexit day

So MPs would have to stop No Deal by 27 Feb, if May really prefers No Deal now

The FTPA won't prevent her calling a GE if Corbyn also supports it - and he is a Brexiter who definitely wants a GE

Saying a GE or No Deal would bankrupt or otherwise destroy both parties is meaningless reassurance, because Brexiter MPs have shown they put Brexit before party

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2019 01:31

Last chance
MPs need to get a majority before 27 February for Revoke or extension

If they can't do this, then they need to vote for the WA

Otherwise it's No Deal

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2019 01:35

Throughout these negotiations, Brexiters have put out fake stories to the media,
claiming that the EU have given concessions and we'll get a deal

This is just a tactic to run down the clock until it is No Deal

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2019 01:40

Car industry saying short extension(s) and then No Deal is worst case scenario for them

Fabian Zuleeg (European Policy Institute) Retweeted Peter Wilding@eurorealist

This is part of the reason a short extension is pointless.
Another is Ireland.
Another is a longer period enables the uk political crisis time to develop.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/02/2019 01:47

"The EU wants us to stay and I'm not giving up my hopes that we will remain."

but they gave up hope of Remain months ago and Tusk finally told us

  • now they just want to stop us crashing over the cliff with No Deal

He said:

"there is no political force and no effective leadership for remain.
I say this without satisfaction, but you can't argue with the facts."

borntobequiet · 17/02/2019 07:16

I’ll be on the march, as on the previous ones, not necessarily because I think there’s any chance of a second vote (or if it would be successful), but because it’s more pressure towards the least damaging outcome.
Were there to be a vote, I’d actively campaign for Remain.

falcon5 · 17/02/2019 08:06

Sorry I'm chirping on here because it seems the safest place to do so. I'm so deeply angry with the JRM concentration camps comments. I grew up with the stories of great granny in them and the atrocities of the English but also with the message of how different things were now. If he had said it was a guerrilla war, vicious etc I would have had more understanding but between him and that citizens of nowhere speech I wonder how soon the NHS identifying me as outside UK born from my NHS number is going to lead to me being in a different line here. There is a reason Hitler thought the UK would be allies and the Mitford woman was such a supporter and its in the toxic UK class system. Sorry, I need to vent somewhere, as you were.

HesterThrale · 17/02/2019 08:07

Cons 4% down in opinion poll out last night. We need Tory MPs to be held accountable by fearing for their seats. To really think about their responsibility to the nation. While they've been ahead in the polls (unbelievably), they haven't had to worry so much.
There were 9 Tories with less than 1% majority in 2017.

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 37% (-4)
LAB: 37% (+3)
LDEM: 8% (-)
UKIP: 7% (-)

Born -let's have an earlier arrangement for meeting up for the next march.

It can either be more pressure towards the least damaging outcome.or the start of a campaign to rejoin?

Also if anyone hadn't sign this petition. Imagine if it got to 1 m. It is growing fast now. Get friends, partners and children to sign it!

lonelyplanetmum · 17/02/2019 08:17

If that petition grows fast at the same time the Tory's are declining in the polls then they will listen.
