Next stop: 27th Feb.

Where we will apparently have Cooper-Boles II which apparently will pass but still assumes that
a) the EU will grant us an extension despite our fuckwittery
b) that it will prevent accidental no deal, which it doesn't
c) glosses over the minor point that the only way to 100% prevent no deal is to say you'll revoke if everything else fails

Meanwhile in reality we leave in law on 29th March, despite the rest of the law having zero chance of being ready in time. Withdrawal Agreement and No Deal alike.

All that is actually happening is the Tories and Labour fighting amongst themselves. Corbyn is still pretending that Brexit isn't really that important and hoping it will just go away. May is still trying to compromise with the ERG - whom if you paying attention 18 months ago were obviously were never going to compromise on anything - cos they are fuckwitted swivel eyed loons.

Meanwhile the entire country has no other alternative but to assume no deal and act accordingly.

A deal on the 21st March (as is the planned date of the Meaningful Vote) is simply too late for planners. For them no deal has already happened even if it does never come to pass.

The strategy of brinkmanship has destroyed us. We just don't know it yet.

A Split in the Tory and Labour parties may well make matters even worse going forward with further political polarisation.

Where next for Brexit?

Who knows and does it even matter now? The damage is irreversible and will take at least a generation to heal wounds. Economically it may never be recoverable.

FUKD.

{leclerc 😂 So India is developing its own Grayling}
I was thinking he had been moonlighting, as he is not convincing 'us' of his brilliance so maybe it is because his efforts elsewhere.

I thought JRM was a history graduate? That makes it so much worse in my mind.

Mind you I always thought the guy was an unadulterated, 1st class dickhead.

1tisILeClerc · 16/02/2019 19:43

{Isn't a GE one of the reasons that the EU said they'd consider for granting an extension? }

Yes but since they can see the way that the UK is so divided and there is no real' opposition' or plan that has any realistic chance of improving matters in a decisive way, I expect the EU would try and find a way not to allow that option. If an alternative party had a realistic plan but simply wasn't in 'power' things would look different.

As is usually the case, there is a grain or two of 'truth' in what is being spouted by so many, if not all 'leave' party BUT when you see the next sentence it all falls apart.
For the first few months the internment camp may well have 'only' had the same mortality rate as Glasgow, but then Kitchener took control of the situation and death rates rocketed while conditions plummeted. Well done to the Feminist who brought the plight to the UK's attention and improved matters.

If we end up off the cliff edge next month survival of the fittest will be in play and those will fare the best will be those who are pragmatic and resilient.

PostNotInHaste, I would second that, but I would add, those who can muster connections with other people will also fare well. Family relationships, friendships, and connections with neighbours will make a huge difference.

In other words, buck the zeitgeist, and don't try to go it alone. This is no time for 'splendid isolation'.

I refuse to click through to the Mail - but I would take anything it said with a shovel full of salt Hmm

Fly BMi collapses due to BREXIT

Lisette1940 · 16/02/2019 19:51

Christ.

borntobequiet · 16/02/2019 19:52

I don’t think either of the main parties can afford a general election. Neither do I think they would be able to construct a manifesto that made any sense of Brexit. So I don’t think there will be one.
On the subject of funding, worth noting that Steve Bannon is getting seriously involved in Italian politics, reported here by Ed Stourton for From Our Own Correspondent BBC R4.

I suppose Brexiteers would say walking is good for you.

1tisILeClerc · 16/02/2019 20:01

I suppose someone has to do it. Looking at the Mail thing there were no details.
Reading the comments posted can only make Europeans want to be rid of the UK completely. For many, it would seem a lobotomy would be an 'upgrade'.

I've googled in French to see if any of the French press was saying what the Times, Mail and Express were suggesting (about Marcon being willing to make it a legally binding time limited backstop) and can't find a single word to support what they are saying Confused I can't speak German so I haven't done it in German, but I have a vague Wink suspicion this is the usual wishful thinking of the anglophone press: that those pesky foreigners will blink first. Hmm

1tisILeClerc · 16/02/2019 20:05

{ I can't speak German so I haven't done it in German,}
Google translate will get you close enough. I have a feeling that 'Chrome' will do translation 'on the fly' but I don't use it normally.

prettybird · 16/02/2019 20:09

I'm strange: although I do use Google translate on occasion, I prefer to use not to and use my own translating skills, especially when I am fact-checking. That way I can be confident of my interpretation.

On this occasion, because Macron was the subject of the speculation, I felt that the French press was sufficient!

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2019 20:18

BCF Labour and Tory parties would be blown apart if May called a GE after any meaningful vote which rejected her deal... bearing in mind MPs have to vote for it........ won't happen unless the EU agreed to an extension first.

I still think leaving the EU can either be stopped or softened significantly but Mays WA is a terrible arrangement, that only extends uncertainty and will make collapses like FlyBmi common place over the next 2 years.

1tisILeClerc · 16/02/2019 20:20

I was only suggesting it as a 'cheat' for speed. Also for others who may be tempted to look wider afield for interesting 'stuff'.

HOW
What can possibly change at this stage ?

1tisILeClerc · 16/02/2019 20:29

A quick look at my French news. I am gutted that I have missed the Smurf convention in Germany with over 16,000 attendees.
No mention of Mr Macron talking about Brexit though.
Gilet Jaunes protests down to 41,000 persons for week 14. Right or wrong, they are making an impact of sorts.

TheElementsSong · 16/02/2019 20:30

I wish that were true, but I'm now working on the assumption that Crash Out was the intention of the Maybot's programmers from the outset, and everything that has happened since is merely theatre to misdirect the gullible (MPs, basically!) with a pretence of consultation.

AdaHopper · 16/02/2019 20:34

For translations - deepl is a better tool than google translate

SparklySneakers · 16/02/2019 20:36

Only 6 weeks to go. Fuck. How the hell have we got so close with so little duck all achieved?

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2019 20:37

Talkin - If the WA is voted down on 27/2 then May will be forced into other options and it is my hope that legally enforceable amendments will be voted through, that will extend A50/GE or PV Labour has to eventually get behind a PV or lose all credibility, esp if they are seen to have been complicite in brexit, May of course could be forced into an about turn.

An extension, even with not really good reason, gives the EU more time to prep for the no-deal and remainer MP's more time to get their act together!

Look, i'm not saying any of this will happen but i still think its worth fighting for, no matter how slim the chances.

TalkinPeece · 16/02/2019 20:39

jasjas
You are missing the point that legally enforceable amendments are utter bollocks
because the EU has said that the document is finished

there is NOTHING That can be added to or taken away from the document
that will avoid No Deal

37 out of 54 family centres are now being shut by the Tory county council in my area.
