Westministenders: A Special Place in Hell

A quick start to a new thread (as I've not been paying attention this evening!).

May is looking to ditch the Malthouse Compromise. Cos its so rubbish.

The ERG look like they are splitting over it anyway.

Up to sixty Labour MPs could back the WA.

Half the ERG plus Labour Leave Rebels could be enough to get the WA over the line.

Donald Tusk, makes controversial comment by more or less stating the obvious.

This was on the last thread - it was reported in the New European. It's actually a very good idea because it gets no deal absolutely off the table.
They pass the W.A contingent on a P.V that takes place on the European election days. We vote in the ref and vote for our new MEPs at the same time. If remain wins the MEPs take up their seats on 2nd July - no fuss no muss. If W.A wins then we brexit on 2nd July, instead, entering the transition phase.
Crucially - if the W.A wins then the W.A is already passed so that brexit can go ahead legally, as planned by the beginning of the new parliament, without bringing back in the potential for accidental crash out.

Not passing the W.A first makes it a rush job. And the ERG/ DUP can still pay silly beggars. You can bet they won't give a shit about the will of the people when it know longer suits them .

Important story but great timing for the Telegraph.

Well about that...

... As much as I probably won't disagree with this, putting it on the front cover just looks...

... Well desparate.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2019 22:37

Oh god it's an ex-wife story too.

Bloody DM/MoS must be desperate. We don't need reminding what a useless twat JC is. Putting that on the front page will boost his image for some people.

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 22:40

The Mail on Sunday even had a TV ad on tonight (which I don't think they normally do) for the Corbyn book extracts, complete with dramatic music and dramatic pauses. 'Jeremy Corbyn. A...Dangerous..... Man'. or something like that.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2019 22:41

John Bercow eats curry with someone the newspaper doesn't like.

And this is front page news.

Now if it had been a Nandos or god forbid a posh French restaurant...

The Green / Telegraph stuff is incredible.

Worth listening to the phone call if you can - he is apoplectic

bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 22:42

Jesus, I wish those stupid Tory arse lickers would just ignore the stupid dick. Stop making him seem like the kind of person the DM/MoS don't like.

Bubastes · 09/02/2019 22:42

'Brexit curry house plot'.

Unpatriotic skullduggery and forrin food. Hang 'em.

bellinisurge · 09/02/2019 22:44

Back in the day, Ken Clarke was an arch bloody Tory - a hated Minister. Bercow was a Tory too.
Bercow having a curry with Chuka would be a story.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2019 22:47

The ex wife story is, she left him cos he was boring but he thought she left him because she was being all feminist. 39 years ago.

Corbyn was a bit obsessive about politics and she wanted to have fun.

Oh and don't forget Corbyn shagged Abbott. Did we forget to remind you? Corbyn and Abbott K-i-s-s-i-n-g.

The end.

There I've saved you the trouble of reading part of it.

Maybe this was what Bercow and Clarke were talking about.

Another amendable vote planned for 27th Feb. In addition to the 14th Feb.

So we all have plenty to look forward to.

Re these "peace talks". If anyone expects ministers to resign to block a no deal, don't.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2019 23:11

Being pointed out that the 26th Feb was the key date in the Cooper-Boles amendment and amendable motion part56774 now scheduled for the 27th.

I almost think there's an admission in there that it's the point of no return. I'm reading it as significant. For which Commons Brexit groupings benefit? Don't know.

Usually when someone describes their politics as 'complicated' they actually mean they are Libertarians (I find).

Populism is horrible. Left (Venezuela) or Right (Philippines).

Huggybear16 · 10/02/2019 06:31

The Guardian, about 8 hours ago.

"Theresa Maycould win parliament’s approval for her controversial Brexit deal in return for guaranteeing another referendum, under a new plan being drawn up by a cross-party group of MPs. The new vote would give the British people a simple choice: to confirm the decision or stay in the EU."

Basically, if you vote through my deal, we'll have another referendum to confirm this is what the people want.

How likely is this?

SquiddyMcSquidford · 10/02/2019 07:13

*Basically, if you vote through my deal, we'll have another referendum to confirm this is what the people want.

It gives me a glimmer of hope but I'm trying not to out too much hope in it. For that to happen TM would need to revoke/delay Article 50 IF such an amendment passed, which it may well not - I'm not sure who would vote for it? And isn't the default that we leave with No Deal if her vote isn't passed?
