Good things that might happen

We have lots of speculation about the bad consequences, and I do know some of it is quite likely and some are less likely. Some seem unavoidable too.

Are there any good things we can speculatively look forward to?
It just feels so scary right now, so hopefully somebody can give some of the positives that might happen and it can maybe be a silver lining on a very cloudy few months?

Most young people do not to leave the EU so once the lack of medicine has seen off a few quitters hopefully we will have sufficient momentum to rejoin the EU. It will be on much worse terms than those we have now.
That's my only silver lining I'm afraid 🤷🏻‍♀️

FishesaPlenty · 31/01/2019 21:14

Lamb replacing beef at McDonald's?

wherearemychickens · 31/01/2019 21:15

Placemarking in hope. I did think the other day that when I lose my job, a small benefit will be having more time, and not having to endlessly rush from one thing to another. However, the stress of keeping a roof over our heads will probably outweigh that quickly.

wherearemychickens · 31/01/2019 21:16

Less sheep, so more trees?

mooncuplanding · 31/01/2019 21:21

I think we are pretty adaptable as a nation...it’s in our blood to overcome adversity

Whatever gaps appear in our services / products, someone in the UK will fill the gap and make a successful business

I think we probably need more faith in our persistence and resilience

I voted remain 🤪

TheVanguardSix · 31/01/2019 21:23

In all honesty, OP, I can't see the optimism. Believe me, I try. I keep telling myself, "You have nothing to fear but fear itself."

I actually think it's no longer Brexit itelf that scares me but the blinding exposure to the level of incompetence (combined with breathtaking arrogance) on blatant display by our peacocks for politicians. That's what's scaring me most of all.

wherearemychickens · 31/01/2019 21:26

Also Vanguard, the complete lack of reality in political discourse. There are a few still basing themselves in the real world, but it's really disconcerting how many aren't.

PMmehunx · 31/01/2019 21:30

I think as a nation we will overcome it, we will have to and that's that. Every nation has had some sort of disaster like war, famine, natural disasters etc and as a nation, together, they rebuild. So that's true, we will have resilience.

But what about all the individuals? All the people who might lose jobs, and then that can have a knock on effect and they lose their home, support networks etc. EU citizens who have been here since they were babies, or even born here, things will probably change for them too.

If we do truly have medicine shortages too, I don't even want to think about that really.

It's scary!
But yes, I think we should just remind ourselves that whatever this throws at us, we will get through it. We won't have any other choice! It's either get through it or... I don't know what.

"we will overcome it": why wasn't that on side of bus?

mooncuplanding · 31/01/2019 21:41

We will get through it though!

We adapt, we find solutions, we persevere and we pick ourselves up

We won’t all die !

Bombardier25966 · 31/01/2019 21:43

War, famine, natural disasters etc usually result in mass deaths.

But then that will free up housing and reduce NHS and social care costs so...

ConfusedConfusedConfused

Random18 · 31/01/2019 21:43

The demise of the Tory party.

That is the only possible good thing

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 21:44

But isn't this all a bit silly? It's not war with another nation, it's not a natural disaster. We don't have to go through this, it's ok for us as a nation to not go down this path.

Moussemoose · 31/01/2019 21:46

That's just what I want for my kids "we can get through it".

How about we can avoid it.

Yes children you could avoid the great big hole in the road of life, but no! Drive straight in to the hole. Laugh while you drop into the hole. Learn life lessons while you drown in the dirty water in the hole. We can get out of the hole.

Why would you voluntarily drive into the hole and then make out it's a virtue. You're mad.

Avoid the hole.

nuttynutjob · 31/01/2019 21:46

Some people the Conkips think eugenics is a good thing (I don't).

PMmehunx · 31/01/2019 21:48

I know it's nowhere near on the same scale as natural disaster, but I am saying that nations together do get through things. Doesn't matter what it is, a country as a whole will come out the other side eventually.

badkitten I think we do have to. Nobody will stop it, I don't think they'll even postpone it to get their shit together and get organised let alone stop it altogether.

If there's less availability of food I may finally lose the couple of stone I've been trying to shift?

Random18 · 31/01/2019 21:51

Nation?
What nation? This is the end Of the UK.

wherearemychickens · 31/01/2019 21:51

"We won't all die!"

That's not really the kind of country I want my children growing up in.

lonelyplanetmum · 31/01/2019 22:17

Errr if our children ever get the country back to where we were economically as the 5 th strongest economy then they will appreciate it and distribute the spoils with more humility.

ShouldHaveListenedInBiology · 31/01/2019 22:21

The Tories are done for. Only silver cloud I can see.

somewhereovertherain · 31/01/2019 22:22

Sunderland will be a black hole once Nissan go.

So will Bridgend.

We also get the lovely hormone rich shit beef from the us.

And the Tory party will be free to destroy employment terms and conditions and maybe get rid of the minimum wage.

London will become the because offshore area / low tax eccomany in the world as will be the only way to compete.

Impicciona · 31/01/2019 22:26

I can't understand the mentality of "surviving" and comparison to natural disasters.... YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEAVE, ITS A CHOICE Angry

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 31/01/2019 22:33

Getting good trade agreements to replace the old good ones? Though it doesn't seem like our government knows how to negotiate. Farmers get rid of the much disliked cap payments? They'll be happy about it. Unsure if anything adequate will replace it though. No more fake stories about non-existent eu rules?

malificent7 · 31/01/2019 22:33

The Tories are done for is a big fucking plus .
Out of the darkness must come out the light!
