Westminstenders: Plan B is Plan A again.

The voting starts around 7pm and is expected to finish up between 8pm and 8.20pm.

May is expected to lose. The question is by how much.

We are then expecting an immediate motion of no confidence in the government by Labour to be put forward.

May is expected to make a speech to calm the markets and then go to Brussels for an utterly pointless visit.

The Labour No Confidence is expected tomorrow afternoon after PMQs. Its expected to fail.

We move no closer to a resolution and ever closer to no deal.

Half the Cabinet want to go into cross party talks. Half the Cabinet don't.

May is apparently insistent that Plan B is Plan A. Which is what you would expect her to tell the house to comply with Grieve IV. Which again is bollocks.

But Bercow could yet refuse to indulge it.

If Plan B is Plan A again, then what's Plan C?

Crisis with a Capital C.

The stalemate grows.

{Have you ever delivered leaflets? Low level letterboxes are a menace.}
And people ridicule the curvature of bananas?

Belindabelle · 15/01/2019 17:42

Delurking to join in tonight’s shenanigans.

Also wanted to ask if anyone would be drinking, but I see Somerville has answered that for me. Not sure if I will have French cognac, Welsh whisky, Scottish gin, Spanish red or Italian white. Depending on how it goes I may just have the lot.

Frank Field tells MPs a "Dardanelles-style inquiry" is needed to work out how the Govt managed to get itself into such a deep Brexit mess as today's.

Whoosh . That's the sound of 98% of the public going: You what ?

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 15/01/2019 17:50

Place-marking. Have dipped in and out of these threads, thanks so much to RedToothBrush and others for keeping us all informed Flowers

Has the latest blog from the well-informed Tony Connolly of RTE been posted? Link Here

Feck Dry January tonight.

There is a bottle of Sauvignon in the Fridge winking at me since New Years. I know I won't be celebrating much, but it might dull the pain of what's to come.

Needs must sometimes.

To the barricades!

I hope it will be peaceful and there is no trouble out on Parliament Square. Or elsewhere.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 15/01/2019 17:55

I have to do some exercise, and then I’ll be back to follow the vote and it’s aftermath.

Anyone want to bet on whether or not my trip to Cyprus (flying on 31 March) goes ahead or not? (It’s a business trip, not a holiday)

Have just had a slice of Dm’s Fruit cake. Very heavy on the sherry.

He doesn’t need an inquiry; he just needs to sit down at a computer for a few days and read the Westministenders threads.

Harry Cole @MrHarryCole
Hear the PM telling wavering MPs govt can’t legally accept Leigh or Baron amendments but hinting heavily she will go armed with their levels of support to Brussels immediately.

Lets be honest. She literally has nothing else to go to see Juncker with.

Phillip May is in the House of Commons. You know things are bad.

Fintan O'Toole has a good column in today's Irish Times. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/fintan-o-toole-today-britain-discovers-it-cannot-escape-history-1.3757673

aka: "Trust me"

yeah, right.

ClashCityRocker · 15/01/2019 18:08

Jumping in with a big placemat.

Even the leavers I know don't know what they want any more (if they ever did, but that's another argument) and just want it all to go away.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2019 18:13

The outside broadcast today was awful with that person banging that drum! So Annoying
I am amazed so many are up there though.
I hope there isn't any trouble.

DGRossetti · 15/01/2019 18:14

You know, it may not be what Brexiteers wanted, but I for one have been bowled over by the mature and measured conduct of the Irish and RoI. I feel reassured and happy that they are Britain's closest neighbours.

DW and I are keen to pop over for a weekend one day soon. Check out the craic Grin

DGRossetti · 15/01/2019 18:15

Who ? Theresa May ?

lonelyplanetmum · 15/01/2019 18:15

Plaice Cat

Was just listening to Radio 4. It was terrifying how many no dealers there are in the public at large. One relatively articulate man interviewed regurgitated the " No deal is better than this bad deal".

Reciting that mantra as May did was so very foolish and irresponsible. In an age where most communication is dumbed down and shortened people are easily brainwashed by such sound bites - it's treacherous.

The80sweregreat · 15/01/2019 18:19

No: just someone in the crowd!
TM has done by now surely? Even she must know it's game over for her plan very soon.
Unless she has a miracle of some sort.

Talk is cheap though. Which - much as they might hate it - is all Brexiteers have now. Admittedly quite a lot. But as with soldiers, I'd take quality over quantity anyday ....

DangermousesSidekick · 15/01/2019 18:21

PMK.
This whole disaster has been communicated in soundbites. And arrogance. And complacency. It really does not sound as if there is any unity or idea at all does it.

omarlarge · 15/01/2019 18:21

@lonelyplanetmum I just can't understand how anyone, even a Brexiteer, would think that! Unless they are JRM.

nicoala1 · 15/01/2019 18:21

DG Rosetti.

Very true comment about the Irish and the ROI Government.

Pity it doesn't apply to Westminster. But there is an arrogance there you see. Well in my view anyway.

RedToothBrush · 15/01/2019 18:23

Christopher Hope @christopherhope
BREAKING Embarrassment for Environment secretary Michael Gove.
His Parliamentary Private Secretary Craig Tracey MP is set to quit the Government tonight after he said he cannot back Theresa May’s deal.
He says: "I cannot support the Government Brexit deal tonight." #BrexitDeal
