Westminstenders: Plan B is Plan A again.

The voting starts around 7pm and is expected to finish up between 8pm and 8.20pm.

May is expected to lose. The question is by how much.

We are then expecting an immediate motion of no confidence in the government by Labour to be put forward.

May is expected to make a speech to calm the markets and then go to Brussels for an utterly pointless visit.

The Labour No Confidence is expected tomorrow afternoon after PMQs. Its expected to fail.

We move no closer to a resolution and ever closer to no deal.

Half the Cabinet want to go into cross party talks. Half the Cabinet don't.

May is apparently insistent that Plan B is Plan A. Which is what you would expect her to tell the house to comply with Grieve IV. Which again is bollocks.

But Bercow could yet refuse to indulge it.

If Plan B is Plan A again, then what's Plan C?

Crisis with a Capital C.

The stalemate grows.

Thanks again RTB
Maybe a Westminsterenders sweepstake on how long this thread will last?
Definitely less than 2 days.

I am not busy all day except between 7.30-9.30pm. What terrible timing!

1tisILeClerc · 15/01/2019 15:07

{The stalemate grows.} Surely that's an oxymoron (or something).

It will be something to look forward to when you get in!

Steven Swinford @Steven_Swinford
The knives are out for Julian Smith, the chief whip, this afternoon.

One minister claims Smith has barely seen any Tory MPs this week - instead focusing all his efforts on trying to win over Labour MPs.

With an historic defeat looming, questions are being asked...

As it stands I'm not expecting this thread to see the evening out LeClerc.

Seconded.

Holidayshopping · 15/01/2019 15:13

Will we get the results straight away? At 8.30 ish?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/01/2019 15:14

I've meetings that go right across the amendments and vote. grrr....

RedToothBrush · 15/01/2019 15:14

Sam Coates Times @SamCoatesTimes
Murrison amendment

Huge division/anger in gvt over (not selected) Murrison amendment - optics and tactics angering many

“Mad” “stupid” “embarrassing” say it’s detractors who think it can’t be delivered

Yet with the potential of the DUP in play it’s attracting cabinet support

What do you reckon? The government officially adopt it, in round 2? Or the last minute on round 1 somehow?

I imagine as the votes start, being on this thread will be like Apollo 8 rounding the dark side of the moon .... let's hope we restablish contact afterwards Grin

speaking of moon (mild distraction, given Chinas space programme featured recently) anyone fascinated by the news they're growing cotton on the moon ?

RedToothBrush · 15/01/2019 15:16

Paul Waugh @paulwaugh
Looks to me again like Bercow is forcing Govt to be more transparent ie if they want those amendments, they should do written manuscript amendments of their own not hide behind backbenchers.

Sam Lowe @SamuelMarcLowe
I still think we have a couple more months of all this and then the real action happens in March.

Chris Grey @chrisgreybrexit
Strong contender for the most depressing tweet of the day. And probably for the most accurate.

MP Fiona Onasanya considering appeal against conviction

Former Labour whip has until Wednesday afternoon to make decision

Onasanya has not voted recently at any of the big votes...

If she appeals, it would mean that any attempt to remove her from office would be suspended until after the legal process is completed.

If Onasanya is sentenced to a year or more in prison, she will automatically lose her seat, according to parliamentary rules.

Any custodial or suspended sentence of less than a year which is not appealed would automatically trigger a recall petition under the Recall of MPs Act 2015.

No MP has yet been recalled under the 2015 act.

Fun.

She will appeal. Because she can, and because it staves off being removed if she does (so she will continue to get paid).

it's not that close - add the "Don't knows to each side" and you either get a 58/42 split (that's for the deal) or 69/42 split against.

UK politics tends to add the Don't Know/Don't Vote numbers into the winning side ... as anyone who's voted LibDem knows Sad

Holidayshopping · 15/01/2019 15:30

Are MPs allowed to abstain?

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 15/01/2019 15:31

I’ve been busy all day, can’t believe there’s another thread already.

Everyone’s split regarding all aspects of Brexit

Tories totally split
Labour same
The people also split

We need to revoke article 50 to buy more time and run the referendum again. But this time actually state what Brexit is (Norway, Canada, no deal etc).

I know Leave could very well win with another referendum but I’m fed up hearing about the will of the people. No one knows what the will of the people actually is.

JaneHare · 15/01/2019 15:33

AIBU to have developed a bit of a crush on Speaker Bercow over the last fortnight?

Ok, I'll get me coat ....
