There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

I suspect island is a bitter old lonely troll who has no one to care about. Or for anyone to care about them!

Mistigri · 15/11/2018 12:56

I agree with you that people only talk about Ireland to back the remain argument

Why do you think that? Lots of posters on here with Irish heritage, and there are certainly some MN-ers who post on the Brexit board who live in NI.

Just after the Brexit vote, I spent several hours of my life watching a session of the Northern Ireland parliamentary committee, because I am genuinely interested in what Brexit means for Ireland (and it was obvious 2 years ago that a hard Brexit was going to be a clusterfuck for Ireland).

The people who really don't give a toss about Ireland are the brexiters who want rid of the GFA and who have never even bothered to visit the border region.

My mum's huge extended family _ Christian Arab mc professionals - have all left the Middle East over the last few decades, for the USA & Canada

Even when you are well off, living in a developing country is dangerous - high risk of being murdered / assaulted -
and miserable quality of life - power cuts, water shortages, sudden shortages of food and meds

Those who remain are those whom no other country wants, i.e. the poor and unskilled

prettybird · 15/11/2018 12:58

If island doesn't know what a GF is, then we know that he is just a visiting troll (or bot). I'm just going to ignore him from now on as he doesn't actually contribute to the discussion. Grin

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
Boris Johnson has just arrived at ERG meeting - feels very much like this is on and letters from Brexiteers about to go in en masse

From the Guardian: (with an explanation of PPSs for the interested!)

Four ministers have resigned, and two parliamentary private secretaries (PPSs - unpaid ministerial bag carriers, who are not members of the government but who are expected to support the government in all votes)

All of these MPs voted leave apart from Shailesh Vara, who voted remain.

Cabinet
Dominic Raab, Brexit secretary
Esther McVey, work and pensions secretary

Junior ministers
Suella Braverman, Brexit minister
Shailesh Vara, Northern Ireland minister

PPSs
Ranil Jayawardena, MoJ PPS
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Education PPS

As the Evening Standard reports, Nikki Da Costa, director of legislative affairs in Downing Street (an official, not an MP) has also resigned.

PineappleSunrise · 15/11/2018 13:00

He's gone, prettybird. So we can get back to munching popcorn and watching the political shitshow drama unfold.

Raab currently favourite

Bloody hell. Just when you think the bar for being PM can't be lowered.

#Breaking Jacob Rees-Mogg is to submit a letter of no-confidence in the leadership of Theresa May, a European Research Group spokesman says

Where has PA been for the last hour or so???

The ERG meeting at 12:45
Unless they bottle it, they alone can send the 48 letterts to call a vote of confidence in the leader

Normally, a leader would quit if the No Confidence exceeds 100-120
In this case, May might well stay as long as she wins even by a few votes

Difficult to know how the result,
but imo Tory MPs would back her because they are scared of the alternatives and also because this is no time to change leaders, so close to Brexit

If she wins a confidence vote, there can't be another for 12 months
So she would be bullet-proof
but maybe impotent

SusanWalker · 15/11/2018 13:02

I wonder which of the remainy Tories will stand.

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 13:02

Adam Bienkov @AdamBienkov
It’s fair to say the ERG meeting is not exactly rammed. Around 35 MPs present

Michael Crick @MichaelLCrick
About 30-35 people inside ERG meeting, including Boris Johnson and just resigned PPS Ranil Jayawardene, dressed very casually in salmon red jumper

dashes off to find website selling salmon red jumper

We certainly see why Raab resigned
Favourite to be leader indeed

The man who after all this time has only just learned where our food comes from !

DGRossetti · 15/11/2018 13:04

regardless of who is Brexit secretary, surely their only job is to sell the deal May has come up with to the party and parliament.

As the EU have said - "That's our best shot" ?

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 13:04

James Felton @JimMFelton
"I quit"
"Ok. And you are?"
"Guy Mack"
"No bells"
"Advisor in department of toiletries & towelling"
"Still nothing"
"Minor scandal last year when I called for euthanasia of the poor"
"Doesn't really narrow it down. We're going to have to start handing out lanyards to you pricks."

Arfff!

Penny Mordaunt going to see PM later this afternoon. She’s pushing for a free vote on the Brexit deal

She's reading MN. I suggested this ( tongue in cheek) earlier today.

A free vote would Leave to staying in though. We'd be back to 2 years ago with the people at odds with those who represent them. What a mess. I'd love to be an invisible witness in a room with DC and TM.

lead to staying in- not leave!

derxa · 15/11/2018 13:06

Don't worry prettybird I'm just angry at the whole situation. I'm a remainer but I hate this 'chlorinated chicken hormone fed beef' trope that's wheeled out. It's very lazy.
The packaging as it exists is very misleading e.g. I bought Tesco spinach yesterday. It had 'Redmere Farms' plastered over it (origin Italy in small letters)
