If you voted Brexit but would now like to remain, could you call loudly for a second referendum please?
I'm a remainer and see the obvious problems with remainers asking for a second referendum but if former Brexiters were to ask, it would have legitimacy surely.

No regrets in voting leave here. Having heard the latest revelation that the EU are planning an army, I'm even more glad we are getting out.

Peregrina · 12/11/2018 09:16

So when the EU army doesn't appear any time soon, but the food and medication shortages do and within the year, will you still feel glad Bimblefaff?

Bimblefaff · 12/11/2018 09:20

I will once again wait to see if the dire predictions of remainers come to fruition.
I doubt it.
And as such, once we have come through this perfectly well enough, and don't face the cost (financial and human) of this new army, I will be glad still.

Peregrina · 12/11/2018 09:25

Have you seen the Govt advice to firms to stockpile food and medications Bimblefaff? This is happening now. Why would they do that?

By contrast, an EU army is a long way off. Of course, it's up to you, but to blithely ignore possible food shortages and vital medications next year, in case there is an EU Army at some indeterminate time in the future , (when I expect to be dead), isn't my choice.

It wouldn't have taken much to throw a few tens of millions into the pot and have a big song and dance 'announcement' and as long as something improved somewhere the rest of the UK would be none the wiser as only a few have 'real' figures. The NHS is so large that even if hardly any appeared at one place, it would be assumed to be being spent elsewhere (cynical I know!).

Bimblefaff · 12/11/2018 09:38

I'll take buying in a few extra tins and being a tiny bit more sensible about medication over the possibility of being dragged into wars with Russia, thanks.

CheekyTizer · 12/11/2018 09:42

I also think there are quite a few who voted Remain who will now vote Leave. People are disillusioned with the way it has all happened and how the EU has reacted.

I think if there was a second referendum, we may find that the vote is even more Leave than Remain and then any hope of staying is totally gone.

The big mistake was having the referendum in the first place. But now the genie is out of the bag, I think we just have to get on with it.

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 09:50

bellinisurge They were the generation that voted for us to stay in the Common Market.
But they were not asked to vote on how the EU has now turned out, it was just a trading block back in 75, many lies were told then as well

Peregrina · 12/11/2018 09:52

It was always envisaged as more than a trading bloc.

TeaForDad · 12/11/2018 09:53

I voted leave and still think that.
However the way it is being handled is such a total shit show. It will not be as good as it should be but the problem isn't brexit in principle it's our government and their failure to manage the process.

May needs a bit of trump spirit for sure.

A second referendum us a stupid idea

TeaForDad · 12/11/2018 09:54

By the way be sure to pencil in a THIRD vote in case the second one doesn't go your way either

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 12/11/2018 09:57

Trump spirit? What on earth does that even mean. And leavers can bog off if they think they're now going to blame the entire shit show that will be Brexit on the government.

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 09:57

Peregrina Not at that time, many decisions were taken since 75 with out asking, forced on us

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 10:03

@TeaForDad - are you prepared to own the shit that is heading our way under the guise of "not as good as we hoped for". You voted for it.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 10:05

If you are a northerner like me @TeaForDad , Dad's tea is going to be a lot shittier.

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 10:06

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig No we cant blame the government/parliament for voting to give the public the vote, then giving the public the vote without planning for the obvious leave vote, then voting to issues A50 and every parliament vote since, Then even after over two years cant agree on negotiating position, many resignations, A Labour party that cant agree on there opposition to Brexit, Many people still fighting against a democratic decision etc etc,
No past or previous governments addressing people's genuine concerns about mass immigration and how it was putting strain on are infrastructure etc
No it was all the leaver voters fault

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 10:12

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig And I forgot to add, past and previous governments that have put this country in a position were there was no exit plan in place for leaving the EU now or in the future for what ever reason

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 10:15

There was no exit plan for leaving the EU because, like reintroducing cholera or deporting all those with mousey hair, it's a stupid idea.

Hesta54 · 12/11/2018 10:19

bellinisurge You may think so at this time, but how knows in the future for the UK or any other country, not to have some form of exit contract in place is a gross cock up

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 10:27

I'm a prepper so I have my own plans for food shortages and health care access problems etc.
Apparently, that makes me a loon.
I just want food on the table for my family and that we have shelter and thrive in peace. I assume that's what everyone else wants.
I can't prep for everything so I prep for the likely stuff.
Turns out, it is in fact likely that we are going to flush this country down the toilet by our own choice.

Chocolala · 12/11/2018 10:54

Waves to bellini as a fellow preppier.

How much are you stockpiling for food? I’m trying to work out how far I should go. I’ve currently got enough for three weeks solid.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 11:01

Hi @Chocolala - we also have about a month- bit more if we are careful, loads more if we are really careful.
I grow some of my own veg too.
Obviously I have other preps but it freaks people out on threads other than Prepper topic threads to talk about it.

I encourage everyone (prepper or not) to have a three day buffer of shelf stable food in the house. Stuff you actually eat - spam makes me hurl. Also have hygiene stuff like toothpaste, soap and shampoo.
I have my own views on how bad it could get but at least make sure you have enough to hunker down in your house for a few days to keep out of the way of any problems.

TheElementsSong · 12/11/2018 11:01

"The EU was only supposed to be a Common Market and now it does all this other stuff." No. We knew what we were getting into from the outset.

Any Brexiters who have changed your minds....?
Singlenotsingle · 12/11/2018 11:03

No, no, no

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 12/11/2018 11:05

bellinsurge we have stocked up on lentils and pulses because we have a pressure cooker so we'd at least have some food, we're stocking up on tinned tomatoes and long life milk, not huge amounts but enough. We've also got extra porridge oats in. So we won't starve and will have food if needs be. Oh and bread making ingredients to chuck in the bread maker that we've just replaced with the idea should the worst come to the worst, we'll at least be able to make our own bread for a while.
