To think people are creating hysteria around brexit

I keep reading post about brexit And prepping and they seem to be crazy. Why are people creating so much hysteria around this. I can’t see how it would be beneficial to other countries to let it get in the state some posters are suggesting.

I don’t think the hysteria is created by posters here. For example, today BBC news said that the government has asked manufacturers to stockpile a 6 week supply of drugs, just in case, but that this is logistically difficult for drugs that need refrigeration (insulin for example), or that have a short shelf life. Yes, the worst probably won’t happen, but if you take a medication daily that’s very important to your health, I don’t think is unreasonable to be worried about something like that.

MeredithGrey1 · 23/10/2018 20:44

Posted too soon, was going to add that obviously that’s just one example, and I do agree with you that some things people worry about are quite far fetched, but some things are quite reasonable

Lazypuppy · 23/10/2018 20:45

Couldn't agree more OP!

Mistigri · 23/10/2018 20:45

Today, the cabinet (you know, the committee of top government members, chaired by the prime minister) discussed using government-owned ferries to transport essential medicines and food.

Grayling, that guy who's done such a spiffing job of running the railways, would be in charge.

And you think remainers are hysterical? Lol

(I'm not in the least bit hysterical, except with laughter. I'm safely on the right side of the channel).

MakeAHouseAHome · 23/10/2018 20:48

Oh I totally agree OP. The hysteria is ridiculous. The way some people are going on you would honestly think the UK is about to implode.

Growingboys · 23/10/2018 20:49

YANBU.

People are being ridiculous. Everything will be fine.

BarbarianMum · 23/10/2018 20:50

What are you going on about oP? This isnt something other countries are doing to us, this is something we're doing to and for ourselves. Other countries arent going to suddenly swoop in and kiss it better if we dont get it sorted - unless it's clearly in their interest to do so, of course. Their interest - not necessarily ours.

RedneckStumpy · 23/10/2018 20:51

Hope for the best, plan for the worst

Willofthesimpletons · 23/10/2018 20:54

There isn't enough 'hysteria' about it, in my opinion. If you even know a tiny amount about it, you should /will be incredibly concerned.

As it is, people prefer to stick their heads in the sand and shriek PROJECT FEAR, REMOANERS and EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE!

VillanellesBrownWig · 23/10/2018 20:54

Yabu, pull your head out your arse, have you read any of the technical notices on gov.uk website? Thought not Hmm

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 23/10/2018 20:54

Manufacturing companies are stockpiling everything as well. For some complex manufacturing, parts go back and forward between the UK and the rest of the EU multiple times (eg deaign and models made in uk, metal extrusion in one country, machining in UK, treatment in another, assembly and testing in UK, goes into another product in EU, finished product sold to end users in uk). If tarifs have to be paid at every stage, it will no longer be a feasible business and they will have to change their business model significantly. They are therefore stockpiling in massive quantities to get them through the period between knowing what's happening and changing their business. It's a hassle and its expensive. This is just one of hundreds of thousands of examples. But it's all project fear, eh

ilovesooty · 23/10/2018 20:56

We caused our own shit. No wonder people are worried.

And as for that tosser Grayling, I haven't forgotten what he did to the probation service.

DaphneduM · 23/10/2018 20:58

If anyone saw Channel 4 news tonight, I would say there was great cause for concern. BUPA seriously considering moving their whole London head office to Dublin, and nobel scientists very worried about the future of our cutting edge research. I would like to be proved wrong, but I am extremely worried about the future for my young adults in the family.

Lazypuppy · 23/10/2018 20:59

I just think the EU leaders are acting ridiculoualy. It feels like they don't want to let anyone ever leave their EU club. Its like they are having a tantrum that the UK dare try to leave them so are just saying no to everything and not negotiating.

purits · 23/10/2018 21:01

Why is this necessary? I thought we were worried about fossil fuels and global warming. Who designed systems that require all this transportation.

whyispeppainthenightgarden · 23/10/2018 21:01

I know we gave chosen this so are doing this to ourselves. But I can’t see for example if we have no insulin like it’s being suggested that other countries would just go no deal so sod it all the diabetics in the uk can die - because that’s badixslly what is being suggested.

OP posts:
MarmiteTermite · 23/10/2018 21:02

If we crash out without a deal, there is no transition period, as this only happens with a deal. This means that we have no trade agreeents and things like insurance may not be valid. It’s potentially far worse than most people realise, so yes YABVVU.

whyispeppainthenightgarden · 23/10/2018 21:02

Basically

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/10/2018 21:03

Yeah, let's rely on other countries to realise it's not beneficial for them to let us be utterly fucked, because we couldn't work it out ourselves when we voted for this mess.

Wake up.

Believeitornot · 23/10/2018 21:03

We live in a capitalist society. World in fact.

If we run out of insulin, the manufacturers will whack the prices up and we pay more. To take but one example.

It’ll cost us!

Brexit is a fucking nonsense driven mainly by those hoping to get rich off of the crash in the pound.

Willofthesimpletons · 23/10/2018 21:03

Lazypuppy, do you read the Daily Mail or Express by any chance? That is absolutely not the situation at all. Jesus Christ.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/10/2018 21:04

it’s being suggested that other countries would just go no deal

No, it's us who will go no deal.

DamsonGin · 23/10/2018 21:05

WIBU to try and build up a spare months worth of my DSs controlled drug medication?

Willofthesimpletons · 23/10/2018 21:06

It doesn't matter if the other countries want us to have our insulin or whatever, if the borders are jammed, how is it supposed to get here? How is it supposed to survive the long border delays? Refrigerated trucks don't have an endless supply of power in a traffic jam.

Or are you suggesting we throw the borders open and let anything through? I thought we wanted control of our borders?

Mistigri · 23/10/2018 21:07

That well known comedy outfit, the Financial Times, just published a "hysterical" report which contained the paragraph in the photo. It might be the funniest thing the FT has ever published.
