I'm very very worried as, I'm sure, are a lot of people.

Please can we have a thread with no scaremongering or speculation where we objectively look at just how bad it is likely to be if No Deal happens which Ms May seems set upon. For those of us left here with no escape route to live anywhere else...those of us who aren't currently in poverty but by no means rich, just middle earners with kids.

What is the most realistic situation we can expect to manage the horror stories and prepare properly? I'd like to try and cover all aspects of daily life which are likely to be impacted in a substantial way.

Mookatron, yeah but sovereignty and like, unelected MEPs and erm, also EU superstate and making our own laws and things. Shhh 🤫 don't question anything, it detracts from the illusion Wink

Jason118 · 23/09/2018 01:21

manage and thrive

Sounds like 'Protect and Survive', a similarly bizarre project with no basis in fact or reality Confused

1tisILeClerc · 23/09/2018 07:10

{It won't be disruptive and we will manage and thrive.}
I suppose 1 out of three might happen.

Mistigri · 23/09/2018 07:47

I am not a leaver and haven't said anything here to indicate that I am a leaver. As it happens, I was a marginal remainer and voted remain but since the vote have probably become less marginally remainer.

Ex remainers who are now BeLeavers are all over Twitter too.

Devilishpyjamas · 23/09/2018 07:52

It won't be disruptive and we will manage and thrive

That sounds like something the Maybot would say: Steong and stable. Manage and thrive.

HPFA · 23/09/2018 07:59

It won't be disruptive

Phew, I'm so relieved. I mean, even the government thinks it will be incredibly disruptive plus every single expert (including some who actually voted Leave) but now I've read this I know the truth.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2018 08:01

"manage"ConfusedHmm. Of course we'll bloody manage but we were managing before. And not worrying about empty shelves in the shops.
I'm old. I've seen a lot of shit in our country as did my wartime generation parents. Choosing to put our country even more in the shit is disgraceful.
You can't eat fecking blue passports.

nuttynutjob · 23/09/2018 08:16

Knowing Meds is my bread and butter,
It's not easy to "just change your meds"

For example, Insulin is very specific. Can't just change it to different brands. Changes can lead to hypoglycemia or the other.

Some antibiotics have to be specific because of the type of strain of microbes.

And so on and so forth.

In the event of no deal, pray that you won't get ill or get admitted to a hospital.

But hey ho, don't think beLeavers are listening.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2018 08:23

I'm a prepper. Here's a top tip. If you don't normally need the hospital or the health service, do what you can to keep out of the fucking way so people who do need regular meds etc can get the focus of attention.
Get stuff in your food stores at home so you aren't queuing for food in shops getting into fights. Have stuff to entertain you and your kids to keep spirits up.
Make realistic plans for a fun Christmas and a fun summer. Give your household and yourself something to look forward to.

This is definitely the new Brexit rhetoric and people are sucking it up left, right and centre. It ties in with the 'EU are so mean' rhetoric nicely. A few night ago we had Chris Skidmore MP on Question Time saying he voted remain, "but would now vote leave" because EU are not playing nicely. Then we've had Penny Mordaunt MP saying even remainers would be happy to walk away without a deal. People in her constituency have told her this, apparently. And then we have the various threads on here...

Buteo · 23/09/2018 09:13

I’m fed up of hearing that the EU is intransigent or mean or bullying or behaving disgracefully.

The EU is a rules based organisation and has its own hands tied by May’s red lines.

Just how bad is it going to be? No scaremongering.
Peregrina · 23/09/2018 09:14

As it happens, I was a marginal remainer and voted remain but since the vote have probably become less marginally remainer.

This statement is ambiguous - it could be read as being less marginal=more firmly in support of remain. Most of us haven't read it like that but have put it in the "I was a remainer but you have to admit..."
A bit like Johnson's silly games of writing two articles one for and one against.... What with Cameron's cowardly behaviour, you have to wonder what that expensive education at Eton teaches them.

HPFA · 23/09/2018 10:00

Ex remainers who are now BeLeavers are all over Twitter too.

TBF, not all the RemainerNow people are very convincing either.

But yes, "I voted Remain but now I'm upset about Tusk's silly joke so I'm prepared to live with being poorer for years ahead" is not very plausible.

Mistigri · 23/09/2018 14:01

TBF, not all the RemainerNow people are very convincing either.

They didn't all pop up like a nasty rash last Friday though ;)

Peregrina · 23/09/2018 14:11

Last Friday woke them from their slumbers though.

Ta1kinpeace · 23/09/2018 15:55

Meganbacon
I did give reasons on a different thread in response to someone wanting to know why people voted leave
No.
The question I keep asking - and not getting an answer to is ....

What three things in YOUR daily life will be better because of Brexit?

I have regularly listed the three things I think will be worse
(more expensive food, more expensive cleaning staff, no more easy travel to Europe)
is it so hard for the Brexiters to list their three ?

Jason118 · 23/09/2018 17:21

is it so hard for the Brexiters to list their three ?

Yes

YeTalkShiteHen · 23/09/2018 17:39

I have little patience with people who are apparently now Remain. Especially the vocal ones.

What’s the fucking point now???

Isitmybathtimeyet · 23/09/2018 17:39

OP, you don't want scaremongering but as someone involved in government preparations for no deal I am pretty scared I'm afraid.

We are heading for the most stupid thing we have ever done as a nation.

1tisILeClerc · 23/09/2018 17:53

When you have the Prime Minister of a country speaking from a podium to the nation and the world and telling lies that half the nation, and all the rest of the world know are not true, we are (as they say) 'in the shit'.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 23/09/2018 18:00

The EU should be concerned about a no deal, and while Brexit isn’t their making, realise that it is in their interest to negotiate a deal with the UK.
The countries who have trade agreements with the EU, may want them to be renegotiated if the 2nd or 3rd largest net comtributer leaves the bloc, as the terms have changed

Jason118 · 23/09/2018 18:06

But surely they'd just do one of those 'easiest trade deals in history' with us instead?

Hazardswan · 23/09/2018 18:09

@isitmybathtimeyet care to divulge more info? I started a thread about how shit the med situation will be. The lack of facts for the public is insane.

1tisILeClerc · 23/09/2018 18:25

I think, in a no deal situation countries with trade agreements with the EU might be thinking about renegotiating BUT these could take 10 years. The one just signed with Japan took around that. If it is something that is made in Europe AND the UK, ramping up EU production may well be seen as preferable to attempting to change an existing deal.
There is nothing much, if anything, that ONLY the UK can make so if there is a demand someone else in Europe will make it.
