After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

British spies 'hacked into Belgian telecoms firm on ministers' orders'

Started in 2011 and only stopped when exposed by Snowden

Confidential report submitted by Belgian prosecutors and now discussed in the Belgian media.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/sep/21/british-spies-hacked-into-belgacom-on-ministers-orders-claims-report

The operation was the first documented example of an EU member state covertly hacking into the critical infrastructure of another.

The unpublished prosecutors’ report is said to indicate that the spying operation must have been authorised at the highest levels of the British government.
In 2011 William Hague was Britain’s foreign secretary.

< Another example of how disloyally the UK has behaved while in the EU. Another E27 country - and public - pissed at the UK >

Major disruptions, especially the 2 world wars, have resulted in abrupt social & political changes
So their thinking is logical, if chilling for the rest of us.
Dialectical materialism in practice.

Not liking the vibes atm. The silence from Labour, the aggression from Tories, the EU tweeting soothing words to try and calm things down. Thersea May has turned into trump. Westminster is hysterical and illogical in supporting her.

Hope you feel better soon @Mrsr8 . I had a cold recently. Hoping that's me for colds this winter. I'm entitled to a free flu jab because I have MS. To be honest, I'd get one anyway and pay for it. When you feel better, @Mrsr8 , consider getting your flu jab.

The advice about first aid is interesting suggesting that there is a threat of terrorism. While this is partly true, with the state of 'craziness' being whipped up across the UK the chance of Acacia avenue having running battles with Downtrodden road is getting far more likely.
Salisbury went into 'lockdown' with the suspected poisoning in the Pizza place, a couple more of those and who can say what will happen?
Real terrorists who might want to harm the UK can stay at home and watch the UK self destruct.

Hazardswan · 22/09/2018 08:40

Mrsr8, hope you feel better soon. Head under duvet is better than in sand, that's far too gritty! Honey, lemon and a bit of something alcoholic perhaps?

woman11017 · 22/09/2018 08:58

Mrs8 Flowers hope you're well soon, I run out of words for them. Grin Smile

It's starting to become all about the authoritarian socialist revolution and how to contain it/force it.

Not Brexit.

The Tories have to appeal to a certain chunk of left authoritarians for power, whilst trying to also keep as many Conservative liberals on the right as possible

Labour have to appeal to as many on the left as possible. So have to appear both authoritarian and liberal.

In term of the centre. Social attitudes show that the centre is in fact left leaning. The centre is also authoritarian leaning.

So if you are liberal leaning this will all feel pretty horrific at the moment.

Authoritarians believe their world view is right. They are less likely to be willing to compromise. They don't see the value in it. Thus this also affects their understanding of the concept of democracy. Authoritarians want to take down democracy for this reason because the concept of compromise they dislike. Thus the language is corrupted and functions of democracy are at threat. This is coming from both left and right. The authoritarian left has now almost completed a take over of power in Labour. The message is clear - this is what social should look like and if you disagree you are not a socialist. And it's all bollocks. They aren't even challenging austerity properly cos they want to ruin people in order to gain more support.

It's abhorrent.

But the point here is the Tories have to talk tough in that dynamic to grab more and more left authoritarians. Or they are going to have to throw economic bones at certain parts of the left.

None of this works for feminists or women in general. And it's going to get worse.

This is why the lib dems are floundering so much. Traditionally they are centre right and Liberal. They are distrusted by the left learners and the natural centre right is small. Plus younger LD are not actually liberal but increasingly authoritarian. So a future vision is utterly perplexing to them. Not surprised Vince wants out. He doesn't fit at all.

Something has to give at some point. There is a breaking point. Increasing hard not to see civil unrest when compromise is increasingly frowned on by politicians.

Excellent and interesting post @RedToothBrush

Indeed this is the best time to be on an extreme. The nature of the arguments and the call to nationalism are key indicators.

Very scary.

PCPlumsTruncheon · 22/09/2018 09:06

Is it too early for Gin ?

BadderWolf · 22/09/2018 09:06

Oh hello, it appears to still be cocktail hour. Fantastic Wine

woman11017 · 22/09/2018 09:12

@WomensPlace are arguably having a degree of success, with grass roots campaigning. Women are doing what pro EU folks are and giving out leaflets and talking to people in the street, who often had no idea what Is happening to girls' and womens' rights. The public meetings continue. A brave pub in Sheffield held one of the last ones and gave out a public statement.

Pro EU folks are doing very similar in grass roots action, engaging on a human level and at least building some bridges with some in local communities. There are over 200 local groups, formed in last year or two.

The dis connect between what is happening and what will happen over next few weeks, and what is being reported is criminally stark. It will cause harm.

When the majority realise what they are in for, there will be mass panic.

From the notices that schools and exam boards are giving out, 'in the event of widespread, sustained national and local disruption to exams' suggests that LA's already have emergency plans protocol in place.

They won't 'inform' us until the last minute.

woman11017 · 22/09/2018 09:15

I've written to my LA to enquire about their contingency plans.

I totally agree with you red

I think a large proportion of the population have authoritarian tendencies. I don’t think we can stop this lurch towards authoritarianism. It’s going to happen and only after the damage is caused the population will realise the mistake.

woman11017 · 22/09/2018 10:05

I think a large proportion of the population have authoritarian tendencies

That great Anne Applebaum article in the Atlantic said that it's normal for a population to have up to 20% who are authoritarian/ extremist.

It's a developmental tick that is normally mititgated by free media, libraries, access to education and a welfare state. Hmm

Authoritarianism has been being normalised in school cultures for last 8 years too. Adult behaviour that would breach ECHR or be a 'Safeguarding issue' for natural parents, is becoming normalised.
