After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

Thanks mother and bigchoc I had a lovely day despite the journey!

woman11017 · 26/09/2018 21:07

Thanks Mrs8, I'm lucky, I don't do it every day. I costs 4-5k ayear for the privilege for a lot of people. Sad Hope the week flies past while your DH is away, and good luck with the meeting. Go for it!.Smile

Peregrina · 26/09/2018 21:13

Gosh, can it be that Trump (Art of the Deal) thinks we aren't so important to cooperate with as the EU ?

It might be of course, that he doesn't want to do a deal with a woman, especially a bossy one like May. Make Johnson PM and he might change his tune.

Childrenofthesun · 26/09/2018 21:18

Just popping in to see if anyone else caught Labour's party political broadcast this evening? Filmed in Mansfield and several references to "taking back control". It seems obvious who the target market was supposed to be.

Mightybanhammer · 26/09/2018 21:29

I didn't - can you post a linki?

BigChocFrenzy · 26/09/2018 21:29

Good luck Mrsr8 and plenty of vallium Lindt before the meeting

children That is embarassingly obvious and based on the motto
"You can never underestimate the stupidity of the general public."

So, just "casual sectarianism", pretty
You're right, if it's so ingrained that he didn't immediately slap his own head and say "wtf did I just fart out "
afaik, noone started to boo, or object from the floor right away, even his victim - she was probably too stunned & hurt Sad to react

Food Supplies Minister to be appointed.

Read the article though, and you will see that the retail chain Next is also worried. You don't need to remind me how their CEO advised people to vote. His advice was one reason why I as a remainer don't buy from the shop. They have also set up operations in Ireland and Germany. Why? Now why aren't they getting behind Brexit and supporting this country as Leavers constantly tell us that we have to do?

Violetparis · 26/09/2018 21:35

I like the broadcast by Labour, I'm from an area like that so it resonated with me. Anyway delurked to say that Amber Rudd is now saying that a People's Vote is preferable to a No Deal. Will be an interesting Tory conference.

1tisILeClerc · 26/09/2018 21:36

On a piece about Next, the other day they said they didn't fear Brexit but the last line was that they said they expect costs to go up about half a percent.

Childrenofthesun · 26/09/2018 21:37

It seems to be this one embedded in this article in the New Statesman.

Peregrina · 26/09/2018 21:41

The Next CEO is a hypocrite.

TheElementsSong · 26/09/2018 21:49

I haven’t set foot in a Next since the referendum.

Mightybanhammer · 26/09/2018 21:51

Thanks children
What a monumental, chilling load of manure that was.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/09/2018 21:51

Yje Next board may be as oganised and coherent as the cabinet

Maybe with the DUP, especially as employers, NI is an even less attractive place than mainland Britain for migrant workers:

http://www.irishnews.com/paywall/tsb/irishnews/irishnews/irishnews//business/2018/09/25/news/reduced-migrant-worker-numbers-in-northern-ireland-could-see-economy-plunge--1441308/content.html

NORTHERN Ireland's already sluggish economy could shrink by a whopping NINE per cent over the next two decades
as there may not be enough people in the post-Brexit era to do all the available jobs.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/09/2018 22:13

The govt has actually appointed a minister specifically^ to oversee the protection of food supplies through the Brexit process^ Shock

I don't understand why that isn't screaming red headlines on every paper and top of every news broadcast Shock Confused
WAKE UP, Britain !!

Maybe there'll be a succession of ministers to protect
medicines including nuclear
power supply - electricity connectors and nuclear fuel supplies-
aviation, agricultural exports,
manufacturing - ooh, no too dirty to worry about -
horseracing (won't be able to move horses across borders to races),
F1 (almost all car development is in the UK)
....

BigChocFrenzy · 26/09/2018 22:19

About 2 years since Richard North first warned about the 6 month wait after Brexit, finally in the quality press ...

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/sep/26/no-deal-brexit-will-be-catastrophic-say-british-farmers-national-farmers-union-eu

No-deal Brexit 'would stop British farming exports for six months'
National Farmers Union warns of ‘catastrophic’ wait to be approved as an EU food supplier if no deal struck

This would be a major setback to the food and drink sector, where exports to the EU are worth £13.2bn a year.

The NFU says it has been told informally that although Britain is in complete regulatory alignment with the EU,
if there is no deal, the same health checks countries such as China and the US undergo will apply to UK suppliers.

< yes, that's what 3rd country means, ffs >
...
We love white meat here and southern Europeans love grey and brown meat and farming relies on what is known as carcass balance, selling the entire animal,”

< so no, farmers can't just sell it all in the Uk, unless consumers suddenly change their eating habits >

RedToothBrush · 26/09/2018 22:28

FFS

The Minister For Rationing.

I'm now having a raging argument with DH about how DS won't get school dinner when he starts primary school next year.

COS THERE WON'T BE ANY FUCKING FOOD.

lonelyplanetmum · 26/09/2018 22:49

The new minister is on Wiki already.

" The Minister of Food Control (1916–1921) and the Minister of Food (1939–1958) were British government ministerial posts separated from that of the Minister of Agriculture. In the Second World War a major task of the Ministry was to oversee rationing in the United Kingdom arising out of World War II...The Minister of the Protection of Food Supplies (2018 – ) was appointed to ensure the continued supply of sufficient food during the Brexit process."

Well sod the 48% we really are delivering the good old days that people like my FIL wanted. How many staff will be recruited for this Ministers' department?

It'll be corned beef fritters, tripe and so on. Any celebrity chefs already jumping on the recipe bend wagon?

lonelyplanetmum · 26/09/2018 22:55

...and drink.

We need a minister for 🍸too.

prettybird · 26/09/2018 23:07

Bugger - lost a long reply Sad

I think things in Glasgow are better than they were - but that's according to dh as it mostly goes over my head (as I'm the "right" religion even though I'm an atheist and have never been asked which school I went to Hmm).

The worse thing is the continuing segregation of Catholic and non-denominational schools (everyone in Scotland is in the catchment for either). Although in Glasgow, many of the "Catholic" schools are full of Sikhs, Muslims and Hindus Confused

Our local rugby club is very mixed: I know that the kids come from all over (state and private, catholic and non-denom, from very diverse demographic backgrounds) (We record the schools so that we know where to put effort in to get more players or where effort has paid off). Worst we have to contend with is not getting halal food as part of hospitality at away games for those players that need it (but there again, it took us long enough to make sure that we kept a supply in the freezer Blush)

BTW: Brexit is something we talk about at the rugby club and I haven't come across a single parent who thinks it's anything but a clusterfuck. Many of them do see a silver lining in that it will bring forward Scottish independence Wink (remember, Glasgow proudly voted Yes Wink)
