After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

Those former "Remainers - if they number more than 2 - are about as genuine as the former "Remainer" on the Macron threads Hmm

who seems to come from the same stable as the Brexit poster "SpringingIntoAction" who was only on MN for the Referendum campaign Hmm

1tisILeClerc · 23/09/2018 16:56

@DKShrewsbury
{This man @eucopresident the former Polish PM had gone completely native with EU project. Not showing respect to our PM in negotiations. He dismisses proposals without any concrete alternatives and is doing immeasurable damage to trust and goodwill}

Pot, Kettle, black?

DGRossetti · 23/09/2018 17:05

Have had numerous messages this weekend from Constituents who voted Remain now wanting speedy withdrawal from EU due to appalling conduct of @eucopresident and his fellow unelected officials towards our PM. More and more people realising our long term interest not in EU #Brexit

Why on earth would Leave start telling the truth now, and ruin their run at 100% bollocks ?

At least the painfully slowly emerging truth about the Leave campaigns fact-lite philosophy is genuine grounds to ignore their future wibblings.

Having googled to find out who he was, in the pictures of him he is usually the scruffy one without a tie.
His surname isn't typically UK either.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 23/09/2018 17:29

@dkshrewsbury is the mp for Shrewsbury. A Pole - shock horror. Very much Vote Leave but also seen as a desperate wannabe who will say anything to try and get somewhere. Luckily no PM has ever given him any kind of responsibility.

However, his seat is predictably safe thanks to the older generation and the very white area that he represents. Saying that, a fabulous labour candidate got very close last time so we live in hope that narrow minded Shropshire opens its eyes one day!

Also the next constituency north is Owen Paterson so Daniel desperately tries to get into his club 🤦🏻‍♀️

Brexit Express funded poll of Tory constituencies of customs union “rebels” also shows among 4110 voters asked what happens if EU asks for more concessions than Chequers:
31% say walk away with No Deal
30% say ask for an extension
25% say Forget Brexit
5% accept all EU demands

BigChocFrenzy · 23/09/2018 17:39

We can always tell when the wealthy Brexiters are anxious:
we get a lot of 1st time posters touting for them

woman11017 · 23/09/2018 17:41

@faisalislam
the numbers below commissioned by ex Conservative funder pondering backing a new Brexit party appear on first notice to be concerning for the potential Tory rebels re attitude to Customs Union among Conservative voters... but... rather interestingly in the tables...

In these 11 Cons constituencies Comres polled 4110 voters
1942 (47%) votes Remain, 1784 (43%) Leave, 283 (7%) DNV
Or 52:48 Remain excl DNV

But “Referendum Voting Intention” now among the same voters in these seats
2195 (53%) Remain. 1692 (41%) Leave. 73 DK (2%)
Or 56:44 Remain

polling was funded by “Brexit Express” and meant to support the former Vote Leave and Conservative funder Jeremy Hosking suggestions of new pro Brexit party - appear to show in the seats held by Grieve, Allen, Soubry, Neill etc a trebling in margin of Remain support from 4 to 12%

BigChocFrenzy · 23/09/2018 18:20

May's 2nd statement last night had this gem:

"This is the moment to put our country first."

Said by the PM who got us into this mess by ALWAYS putting Tory party unity and her own career first Angry

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 23/09/2018 18:23

1tislLeClerc. Having read even more of his ghastly twitter musings I feel I should apologise to you and all on the thread for exposing you to him. Gin and Wine recommended first should any one else dare to take a look...

Peregrina · 23/09/2018 18:31

Len McCluskey says that any new Referendum mustn't include the option of staying in the EU. One of his reasons being, it might push some Labour voters to vote for the Tories. Doesn't it occur to him that it might push some moderate Tories into voting Labour, especially if the Tories remain hell bent on hard Brexit?

I will pass over commenting about whether he is considering what is best for the country.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 23/09/2018 18:32

prettybird. If only...we’ve just sunk all our money into a property as far south as is possible without actually going to France (again, if only!)
If there’s another indie ref and the UK breaks up I suspect we’d find it tricky selling up and moving north...

DGRossetti · 23/09/2018 18:36

Len McCluskey says that any new Referendum mustn't include the option of staying in the EU. One of his reasons being, it might push some Labour voters to vote for the Tories.

Ideally, I'd like to see Brexit cancelled. Next best thing would be a proper referendum where the governments deal is canvassed, with an implicit reversal of A50/Remain if there isn't the backing for it. There's no option for no deal.

If any party can organise that as a policy, it's got 2 votes from DW and I. Even if it's the Tories.

Icantreachthepretzels · 23/09/2018 18:37

Why is Len McClusky saying that a people's vote, as backed by labour, must exclude an option to remain?
What a tit!
He fears that including the option to remain will cause some voters to go to the tories. Maybe it will - but it will be nothing like the droves they will lose if they back a completely pointless hobson's choice referendum.

I fear Mr. McCluskey hasn't understood why people want this vote.

Icantreachthepretzels · 23/09/2018 18:38

cross post with other posters - but my point remains - what a tit!

DGRossetti · 23/09/2018 18:39

Why is Len McClusky saying that a people's vote, as backed by labour, must exclude an option to remain?

He's an old school socialist, so has very traditional views on democracy (muck like his Tory counterparts - not that he'd admit it).

bellinisurge · 23/09/2018 18:41

Len loves the chaos. They all do. Gives them a chance to offer dubious solutions that desperate people will grab.

1tisILeClerc · 23/09/2018 18:44

I have a feeling the last word on 29 March will be 'please' uttered by someone from the UK in a feeble voice.

Peregrina · 23/09/2018 19:07

If it's 'please can we cancel Brexit' I will be more than happy. But I am not holding my breath.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2018 19:34

RTB

Wrt the national level organisation vs local level activists' pov:

My personal opinion is that grass roots stuff is enormously popular and there isn't the understanding of this, that there should be. Its overlooked by the media because of the politics of personality. It can be very niche and frankly dull as hell.

BUT it's also why you get people ranting about the state of their local high street when talking to 2nd ref activists. The state of the high street has got fuck all to do with the EU. And once you get the predictable rant done, you can get behind that to the stuff underneath.

I suspect the power grab by central government, with LAs starved of funds and therefore effective power has a lot to do with the phenomenon of local problems becoming subsumed into national ones.

The strangling of effective representative government at the local level is always going to result in dissatisfaction on a massive scale.

"All politics is local" is an adage that has a lot of truth to it.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2018 19:51

From the Beerg Brexit blog, take a look at the setting of the round table meeting.

It's the Felsenreitschule, where the 'So Long, Farewell' performance scene from the end of 'The Sound of Music' was filmed.

Discussion on #Brexit motion underway. But while Watson/Umunna/Lammy all publicly calling for a clear cut motion on ‘people’s vote’ behind scenes expectation that GMB will fold & fudge will win out. “Jeremy’s got a total grip on this conference” says one senior figure #Lab18

Len McCluskey tells @JackBlanchard that a Labour government which came in before Brexit would extend article 50 to renegotiate Brexit from scratch. Imagine the Tories will pick up on this

HesterThrale · 23/09/2018 20:42

A thread about some research that gives the lie to 'austerity led to Brexit vote' theory. Labour would do well to take note. In fact, it removes their reason for supporting Brexit.

1) Austerity, #Brexit and fake narratives
1 of 2 threads on fake Brexit narratives doing the rounds
Some Labour types have continually tried to tie Brexit to Austerity as an excuse for Labour's Brexit appeasement - "we must respect the causes"
This, frankly, is nonsense.
2) If you look at the actual demographics of the vote, the austerity argument doesn't stack up.
There are exceptions of course however it's fairly clear austerity didn't cause Brexit because those who perceived they were most at risk voted Remain

Etc etc.
